And they currently have record-breaking cases of Covid. What a jackass.

While TX Gov Abbott is asking for outside medical workers to assist in Texas hospitals because of the overflow of Covid patients. Shameful hypocrite!! He’s also said the state is not paying for extra medical workers. It’s up to the hospital, city, and county to find the money. In addition, according to CNN: Gov. Greg Abbott sent a letter to the Texas Hospital Association asking hospitals to voluntarily postpone elective medical procedures to increase hospital capacity for coronavirus patients, according to a news release from his office.

Dallas ISD told Abbott to go F himself on the mask mandate ban today, and implemented a mask requirement for all students and staff beginning next Monday. Houston ISD will likely do the same on Thursday. The two biggest districts in the state. I'm sure others are not far behind. I still have doubts about the real efficacy of a mask mandate in primary grades, but whatever. Can't hurt might help. ETA: sharing this here as well - Dallas county executive is suing Abbott. www.texastribune.org/2021/08/09/texas-mask-mandates-greg-abbott-dallas-county-clay-jenkins/?utm_campaign=trib-social&utm_content=1628557535&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter Obviously the superintendents feel they may get some air cover if the county judge is successful in having Abbott's order overturned or at least getting a stay on it. (Stay? Injunction? Not sure what is correct there. Legal peas, help me out.)

What a pompous ass. He just keeps digging in harder.
I hope some parents in those districts start funds to keep the superintendents going until such time as their salaries are paid.

What I love is that, eg, DeSantis tells public schools they can’t impose mask mandates while sending his own kids to a private school that imposes a mask mandate.
It is almost like they don’t care about you or your kids, just their own, even though they are elected to protect the well-being of everyone.

Meanwhile hospitals are scrambling and trying to hire traveling nurses. from anywhere they can find them. Shortage and very high rates. I saw something about a possible oxygen shortage in Florida coming soon . So sad and unnecessary. I’m glad a few are seeing the light but unfortunately too many more will suffer and some will have long term issues while others will die because of vanity.

Of course here people are choosing private to avoid a mask. The irony.

This is all very helpful in their long-term quest to dismantle public education. No masks, let disease run rampant through the schools. Don’t pay public school employees. Offer vouchers to students who are supposedly bullied for not wearing masks. He’s loving all this.

DeSantis doesn’t care about anyone in Florida except himself. He has his sights set on the 2024 primary and sacrificed Florida to appeal to the base. Hopefully, that will come back to bite him.

A few minutes ago someone on MSNBC mentioned Paul's medical license, so maybe it is being looked into?
Also Abbott... The messages says the State is asking for outside medical held.. so the statement that they won't help pay might be questionable?

Gov of South Carolina says no mask mandates for kids in schools. Kids should not have to wear masks to protect the adults.

Ok, what about on busses? The federal mandate requires masks on school busses. What are they saying about that?

Things are really not going DeSantis's way.
Norwegian won their court challenge on the vaccine requirements for passengers.
Disney is mandating vaccine requirements for all employees. I believe they are also requiring masks for all guests indoors, vaccinated or not. Has DeSantis threatened them?

Fort Worth ISD school board just announced a mask mandate. Now the suburban districts need to do the same.

As for these politicians, they have proven over and over again that they only care about being in power and will do whatever it takes to stay there. They have had a good 5eacher.

I worry that those people who elected him (and others in this same mold— looking at you, Greg Abbott) will never see the hypocrisy. Ever the pessimist, I’m convinced that DeSantis will be our next President.

Harris County has now authorized the county attorney to file a lawsuit against the no-mandate order as well.
I don’t understand the purpose of multiple counties filing. I thought if one did and won, others would benefit from that decision. Legal peas - is that not how it works?

Bexar County filed a temporary restraining order yesterday and then reinstated our mask mandates. They also instituted the mask mandate for all school districts in the county. I would think it would be better for all us if the large counties worked together, but maybe everyone is attacking it from a different angle to see which one sticks.

Bexar County is just for schools and city and county buildings. It is not a general mask mandate.
