bergdorfblonde - update 9/13 Gary health top of OP

Hi Peas! Thank you SO very much jenjie for keeping everyone up to date and doing ALL that you've been doing on our behalf. Gary & I appreciate it beyond words.

Thank you to the Peas who already sent us items. I'll msg each of you asap.

UPDATE: Gary was in a lot of pain (he never is!) with his knee for 24 hours. It got swollen, red and hot to the touch. Moffitt said to bring him right in. Got there late due to traffic, and his reserved bed at their Urgent Care was taken. We waited close to 9 hours for a bed. (No one was checking on these poor souls in that waiting area. It broke my heart. Some people were bundled up in blankets. They keep it at about 65 degrees--too cold) and weighed about 80 lbs.) They take initial stats, start an IV and send you back to wait. I think they took people according to priority, which is understandable, but as we sat there, I worried that Gary would get more sick. A sweet lady (cancer patient) got us hot blankets.

He was finally seen after a freezing day. I felt so badly for him, falling asleep in a wheelchair with his Veteran hat on. They took blood, an x-ray of his knee and we waited more. Honestly, that room felt like a luxury hotel room at that point! It was clean, new and private. They came back at 12:15 to say it all checked out fine. (They first said it looked like a "worrysome infection". Nice to say!). He has cellulitis, and it's localized just in his knee. They checked for sepsis and checked his blood. They gave him an antibiotic and gave me an Rx for pain. He was happy to leave, but it was an ordeal getting him to the car and into the house.

He got good sleep! We got home at 2am, so he slept in until 12. I had to run out to get his meds. He's in good spirits (as usual). His bone biopsy is early in the morning tomorrow, so I'm hoping for a quiet day full of naps. xoxo

He wanted to open each card and gift and read them!! I'm blown away by the sweet nature of so many people here. I really am. (I guess I cry easily lately!). *To the Pea who sent us the baby monitor: There was no name on the gift. I really wanted to thank you because this gives me peace of mind every time Gary goes to take a nap! I'm sleeping better at night, hearing him snore, and we could talk to each other without searching for our cellphones. THANK YOU!!! (And, btw, he's been having fun by leaving scary items on his bed, so I could wake up and look at the monitor and laugh! He's forever a clown, magician and all-around silly guy!)

UPDATE ON DH: 8/31
He had his bone biopsy last Friday. It was thankfully uneventful! He was already on pain meds for his cellulitis in his knee, so he didn't even remember that he got the bone biopsy done. Phew!! He recovered quickly and well. No pain this time!!

He goes on Thursday for another PET scan. This one should focus on the neuroendocrine tumors.

He begins chemo the following week. He'll have it on the 8th, 9th, 10th (all at different Moffitt locations). I'll have to map them out to make sure I could drive there!

He's been feeling pretty good, so I've been able to do some major cleaning and organizing.

Oh gosh what a very sad update jenjie I'm so sorry that it has come to this. Please tell her I'm thinking of her when you are in contact with her.

I hope a relative or two goes and helps her with all of this. 

So sorry for this heartbreaking update.  They are both in my prayers.

Oh no… and to have to worry about being eviction is cruel.

On @bergdorfblond my heart is breaking for you. I've just built a special place in my heart to keep you tucked up safely. It's there for you always.

Oh my!! I must have missed something, but why would she have to move when Gary passes?!
