My feeling is that since they have announced a press conference it is something more sinister than toxic algae bloom.

My feeling is that since they have announced a press conference it is something more sinister than toxic algae bloom. They have been doing extensive toxicology testing. There have been other deaths due to already bloom. A few lakes in my area of CA have been closed and fish have died off in huge numbers as well as other wild life.

It still amazes me, in a bad way, that they, all different sizes/weights/species, were 'taken' at the same time.

All around the same time, including the dog?
From the article…
A former San Francisco family died of hyperthermia and dehydration while hiking in the Sierra National Forest this summer, officials revealed in a press conference on Thursday.
.
The Mariposa County Sheriff's Office told reporters they identified what killed 45-year-old John Gerrish, 31-year-old Ellen Chung and their 1-year-old daughter, Miyo, all of whom were found dead on a remote hiking trail on Aug. 17. Officials said their dog, Oski, also likely died of heat-related causes, although the cause of death was undetermined.

It was high 90s to 100's that day. They think they only had 85oz of water for 3 people, 1 dog.

I’m certainly no expert when it comes hiking and stuff.
But, there is always a but, these guys were experienced hikers. I looked at pictures in the area where they were found. While it’s sort of sparse, there are areas where they could get out of the sun.
The idea that both adults would become incapacitated at the same time seems odd.
The idea that experienced hikers wouldn’t have enough water seems odd.
I couldn’t find anything that said if all of them were together when they were found.
If the two adults collapsed about the same time and were found together, I can see the dog staying with them for a while then going to search for water.
It could very well be they died like the sheriff is saying. Or they still don’t know for sure but are giving some sort of closure by saying this is how they died after these things were ruled out.

What I read earlier was that the father, baby, and dog were found together. The mother was just a little ways away, as if she were trying to get help.
I find it very difficult to believe all four of them, including the dog, succumbed to heat and dehydration at the same approximate place/time. Way too weird.

They were all very close to each other. It was over 100 degrees. We are hikers and hike in Yosemite all the time - we always have a lot of water plus a portable filter and “life straw” to easily drink from the Merced or Tuolumne etc. Super odd they would all be overcome by heat in same location. I also thought they were near the River.
this story is super odd.

The Santa Rosa newspaper posted the story about the cause of death on Facebook and there was one comment…
“Sounds fishy. Pretty sure that’s not what happened.”

It seems odd to me as well. And it took all this time to come to this conclusion? This doesn’t pass the smell test.

Under the circumstances they should have done a necropsy on the dog.

It was very hot that day but from what I remember these folks were experienced hikers on well marked, well traveled trails. It seems too weird to me that all of them, including the dog, died together at the same time. I don't buy it.
