I scrap in our unfinished basement. I've had a space down there since my girls were little...probably 2006 (!!) or so. It collected tons of stuff and was/is a hodgepodge of storage pieces. My original set up was an old drafting table top sitting on a table left from the previous owners. It was a homemade table. I had some storage cubes from Michaels, old bathroom cabinets/counter top from our remodel, a storage caddy from harbor freight and various plastic storage containers. We will likely never finish our basement as it just has too much stuff. Storage shelves on both sides, my husband's tools, our washer/dryer...the thought of moving stuff to finish it makes me want to move instead. I started remaking the area in November 2020. Picked up some Ikea tables/legs and a Kallax. Made a workspace (that I can also use for work) and started moving stuff around. (1) Original scrapping area. Worked well, but the slant from the drafting table wasn't ideal. Going to use this as mixed media/paint/etc area. Moving my spray box over to the side of the table. Has good lighting. Stickles storage made by my husband forever and a day ago, with some Ikea stuff. Under table is storage for scraps. Going to eventually divide them into two bins by colors. One of the bathroom cabinets moved so I could put up the tables. Right now I use the drafting table for stuff I don't know what to do with, or am debating just donating/tossing. Craft area redo by Maria Swiatkowski, on Flickr Craft area redo by Maria Swiatkowski, on Flickr Untitled by Maria Swiatkowski, on Flickr (2) Harbor Freight storage tower. Holds older inks (cat's eye chalk!) embossing stuff, plain chipboard and now punches at the bottom. Used to hold all kinds of things, but moved most embellishments. Still have room for more chipboard, which I found in ANOTHER storage container. Top of it still needs to be cleaned off. Untitled by Maria Swiatkowski, on Flickr (3) New work area. The double wide table is nice (Ikea, Linnmon, 47" I think each) Lots of surface. Hard to get to storage in middle of table. Especially under table, but I hide stuff I don't use much there. Top shelves hold alphas, stamp blocks, fridge bins (TBD). Stuff I use regularly Craft area redo by Maria Swiatkowski, on Flickr (4) Ikea tables replacing old cabinets. A large Alex holds adhesive, border punches (still love those), plain wood veneer (I have so much), chipboard shapes that are colors, some with words; the small Michaels cabinet underneath holds mists, glitter, screens, etc. Still moving small storage around to find the right place. Second small michaels storage holds embellishments (still a work in progress, lots of empty space still) and my sewing machine on top. (need to learn how to use that again!) The Michaels drawers on top hold thickers/old BG alphas, distress inks, sponges etc. Craft area redo by Maria Swiatkowski, on Flickr Untitled by Maria Swiatkowski, on Flickr (5) Storage for stamps, unused PL kits (boxes) by year, scrapbook kits (bottom bins), paper by manufacturer/collections, small item storage in the wine bottle holders. PL card storage on top (still working on). Cardstock is in a rolling cart near drafting table. Untitled by Maria Swiatkowski, on Flickr (6) Cart with DD stuff on top two shelves and Halloween stuff on bottom Untitled by Maria Swiatkowski, on Flickr (7) Close up of fridge tray that has travel stuff. I have several of these that are empty and I'm debating what/how to use them. I like this for the themed pieces but I'm still debating the best way to sort/store embellishments. Untitled by Maria Swiatkowski, on Flickr Things I've learned...I have so many unused kits. I didn't buy random paper. I was a kit buyer. I need to use them. When I break apart kits I need to figure out what to do with the unused/extra pieces. I need to purge more. I've decided to scrap/create more and work on organizing as I use this space to see what works. I've changed my mind on how to store items 100 times already. Definitely a work in progress. How do you store your packaged adhesive embellishments (shapes? stickers?) Right now adhesive chipboard and adhesive epoxy/dimensional shapes are on their backing sheets, standing up in bins to flip through either in the kallax or on the table to the right of my work area. Flat stickers (words, shapes) are in a drawer. Not sure I love this idea but I'm not sure how I want to store them. I feel like this will evolve as I scrap/work down here more. Whew. That's a lot and I still have so much I could share.

Wow, great job! It's a lot of work, but you will be so happy when you are all done and can sit and create comfortably!! I've moved my scrapbook area twice in the past 2 months. It's definitely a labor of love! As for your question about stickers, I keep all my collections together, so if they have stickers that go with them I keep them in there. All of my other stickers without a home, thickers, letter stickers, and all other miscellaneous stuff goes on this Hudson cart from Michael's. That way when I'm looking for letters, phrases or stickers they are all in one place! And they are standing up so I can just quickly go thru them. I always seem to be changing things up regarding storage, but this seems to be one thing that has worked for me since I pit it together. Good luck, hope you get to creating in your newish space soon!!

First off - wow, congrats on the huge remodel! I too scrap in the basement. Ours is finished, but crammed full as much (or more) as yours so doesn't have a nice "scraproom" feel to it. I too redid a huge chunk of storage last year. The one piece I have NOT replaced is my table. I scrap on a big kitchen table, so it's wider than a desk. I've toyed with replacing it with the double wide linmon and was SO glad to see your comments about that above because I can see that my old table is more functional for reach and I should probably just keep using it. Next - ephemera, stickers, adhesive chipboard, epoxy. The old struggle. My standard storage sounds very much like yours. For me, it's definitely ease of flipping through things that decides my storage. When I bring home a new collection, I often keep all the pieces together right beside my desk. And I actually forget about more pieces than I find (it's Christmas every day, "oh, wow, look I have THAT!) because it's hard to flip through and the smaller packages fall down and get missed. So I store die cut/ephemera packages in fridge bins, by manufacturer mainly, or by theme where obvious. Smaller sticker books and pages have their own bin because they get lost if stored with their 6x9 siblings. Untitled by kirstendrew, on Flickr Untitled by kirstendrew, on Flickr Untitled by kirstendrew, on Flickr I store 6x9 chipboard stickers and flat stickers separately, upright like I see your bin with white thickers at the front. Untitled by kirstendrew, on Flickr Untitled by kirstendrew, on Flickr I store 12x12 sticker sheets together Untitled by kirstendrew, on Flickr I keep SMALL sticker/ephemera/epoxy/brad sheets in a repurposed cardboard beer carrier that came with a 4 pack of beer (someone brought it camping - I grabbed the cardboard box and said "keep the beer, the carrier is MINE".) It sits right on my table. Untitled by kirstendrew, on Flickr Funny how we cobble together our scrap storage!

So much work - so impressive! Love the double table and cube storage - and get how you’ve changed your mind repeatedly. It will sort itself out as you use it. Just one small caution that you might have already thought about. Since punches are heavy, a bunch in an Alex drawer could bow the bottom of the drawer. I’m a huge Alex fan and have 3 small, 1 small with a file drawer and one large like yours, so that’s not a put down. On the off chance you want any ideas, I don’t have many punches, and they fit in a wood stadium organizer on the top of a 2x4 Expedit along with my printer, a lamp, etc.. Before that I used a couple different sizes of Totally Tiffany stamp-n-go bags, standing vertically like albums on a shelf. I don’t have huge amounts of embellishments since I’m a card maker, but I flip through like you’re doing, plus have some - including chipboard - are in an Ikea 3-drawer Pallra unit in the Expedit. Pallra is cardboard or chipboard but very sturdy - mine are many years old and look new. If you don’t put bumpons on the bottom it will slide when you push drawers in or out. I put a “stop” right behind it, just a couple layers of chipboard with a few glue dots so if I push a drawer in it can’t move. Drawers can be removed to be taken to a workspace. They were cheap. The price has gone up and now they’re only available in black. www.ikea.com/us/en/p/pallra-mini-chest-with-3-drawers-black-10468163/Enjoy the transformation!

Wow! Y'all are busy! I, too, scrap in the basement but I'm on the finished/carpeted side and the space also includes my work office and a small TV area with two small couches in the 12'x36' room. Basically just one big room. I have all my kits in Advantus Studio Storage Paper holders an Ikea Expedite and I'm finding that as I use up the kits - what do I do with all the stuff that's left over? 12x12 sticker sheets, ephemera packs, letter stickers, stamps... I usually manage to use all the paper but not the extras. I have yet to decide how I'm going to sort/store those. Right now I'm throwing all the 12x12 sticker sheets in a plastic sleeve that I can go through when I need them. The smaller sticker sheets/ephemera packs are going in new refrigerator storage bins. My PL cards are all in one bin with tabs. Not using those too much, so need to put them where I can see them and use them. That seems to be my biggest problem - what do I have and where is it?

Thanks for the feedback! It's definitely a work in progress. I've been working on my family/friend vacation album from this summer in the new space. I've decided a cheap serving tray (saw some at the At Home store) would be a good place to put "in progress" projects on the far side of the table. That way I can keep a project out but not in the way. lostwithout2peas and kitbop thanks for the storage ideas. I think I'm going to stand up those weird packages of dimensional embellishments and stickers for now. I have the room. @cardboxer right now I only have 8 ish border punches in the drawer - mainly fiskers which weren't too heavy and none of the "big" punches. I will keep an eye on the drawer though. the rest of my border punches are in baskets in the bottom cubbies of the Kallax since I don't use them too often.

@cardboxer I had that issue with the large Alex drawers. Bowed from storing punches. DH was able to fix, I purged a bunch of punches and now store them in a box on a raskög. I need to find a better solution so I can use them without get out the box. It’s too inconvenient.

It looks great! Love how you made use of the different storage options. I'm a kit lover as well. One thing I've done since cleaning out my space is when I'm done with a kit, I give myself permission to just purge it right then verses trying to hang on to it and incorporate into my stash. I typically get at least 4 2 page spreads (I do mostly pocket pages) so by the time I'm done, I'm pretty sick of the kit anyway. I try to use what I love first, which keeps me from feeling like I might use it "someday". I will keep things like letter stickers if there are vowels left, if not, or mostly not, I purge those too. I also only sub to one kit at a time now. I'll occasionally buy another kit if I really love it, but I'm finding I just don't use that much product every month. I purged so much when I cleaned things out that I had loved when I bought it and it never got used.
Except for fall stuff. I just can't keep myself from buying fall products, but otherwise, this has been working well for me for the last 3 months.

I need to find a better solution so I can use them without get out the box. It’s too inconvenient. Glad he fixed it. Do you have any wall space? I’ve seen some people put up an Ikea Bygel kitchen rail and just rest the punches on them. I believe it works for all but the tiniest punches - the rail is a little too far from the wall for that. Bygel may be discontinued but another may work - but they’re on Amazon and ebay. Btw, I made up an Alex hack that I love for “flats” - ScorPals, punch boards, stamp positioners, cutting boards. I wanted a small shelf unit to fit in between two Alexes and figured why not have it be an Alex? We got a small Alex, didn’t put the drawers together, and cut laminate closet shelving to slide onto the drawer railed, which come installed. Love. So I had plexiglass shelves cut by a local glass company, since most cats won’t walk on glass. Sorry Theo, but you have massive numbers of places to sleep. Those refrigerator bins are $$$! they are pricey...I've been trying to pick them up 1 or 2 at a time and have been looking at knock off brands if possible (iDesign are the most expensive). The wine rack/divider in the Michaels cubes can hold slightly bigger than 4" bins. The ones in the Kallax have to be 4" or less.

If you are wanting more shallow storage, I got these at Dollar Tree for a drawer. It is slightly more than five inches. It may not work for that, but maybe in another area. I have a photo display board where I switch out the clothespins with seasons. I can stack three on top of each other. They aren't the most sturdy plastic, but they work for lighter weight things.

I'm a big fan of keeping things standing up so they're easy to page through but so much depends on what you have, the space you've got, and how you work. It's fun to see other people's stuff and spaces. Thanks for sharing
