I'm pretty sure it was steak, potatoes, asparagus & a cocktail at Hell's Kitchen in Las Vegas.

I'm not sure, i think it was about $100 per person at a local place in PA, not including the drinks, about 8 years ago. It was very good but i don't like spending a lot of money on food. It's a waste of money to me and i don't enjoy dining for hours. I can think of tons of things I'd rather do and spend money on than one meal.

We took our daughter to Daniel Boulud in NYC for her 16th birthday. One of her courses was risotto, with the option of shaved black truffles for an additional $150. Well, she loves truffles so she went for it! I don’t remember what the individual meals cost but our total was about $1500 (not including tip) for the three of us 😳 but totally worth it. Ambrosia from the Hand of God is not worth $1500 to me to be turned into turds. Lol but if it's your thing, I'm glad you got to have the experience!

I think Alinea in Chicago. I do not now recall how much it cost (it was probably 12 years ago), but I do recall being a little surprised, after eating at a lot of very pricey NYC restaurants while I lived there, that it was more expensive. I have had French Laundry reservations twice but had to cancel both times . I came here to say probably Alinea, too. We sat at the 6 person table in the kitchen, which is $425/person, and we also got wine pairings (maybe around $300/person and not the most expensive option). It was a phenomenal experience. I would do it again, but sit in the gallery or salon and not do wine pairings.

I am probably the least adventurous eater in the world. (I'm sure there's a way better way to word that, but I'm so tired and can't come up with better words right now, sorry!) I imagine that serious chefs wouldn't even want me to come to their restaurants. Zee My DH has the same view of where the food is going to end up, so he never has an interest in going to very expensive restaurants. I DO like a good steak with garlic butter, potatoes & certain vegetables. I don't want a bunch of rubs or crazy seasonings, anything spicy or sauces though, which is hard to find at a lot of pricier restaurants I've found. Good thing it's not something I care much about doing.

Ours is Christmas lunch. Dad always cooked Christmas dinner and the first year after he died neither my mother or I felt like doing it...so since then we have lunch at a local restaurant and it's $120 each. That's 3 courses and a glass of champagne

Unless it is free, I am hesitant to go to a really expensive restaurant because I don’t eat a lot and feel like it would be a waste! 😣 I don’t even eat my share at really expensive buffets. You all have to been to some really nice places!! The food must have been awesome! You must be my long lost twin, LOL! This is so me. I hate spending a lot on a meal especially if I can’t take the other half home to eat later. Probably the most expensive meal I’ve ever paid for was at one of those all you can eat Brazilian meat places where they come around to your table with these big hunks of various roasted meat that they carve tableside. It was easily over $50 per person just for the entreé and none of the sides were included for that price. What sucked was that I was with my friend and we were traveling for a convention. She wanted to meet up with an acquaintance that she didn’t know well, and that lady didn’t want to drive into the city alone so she had her DH drive. It was after our event had ended for the day and we were hungry. My friend didn’t really want fast food so she asked the lady we were with for a suggestion since she was local. Her DH suggested this place saying that it was really good and they hadn’t been there for a while so it would be a nice treat. My eyes about popped out of my head when I saw the prices, but at that point we were committed. I skipped all the sides and had only water to drink because that $50 was basically my food money for the rest trip and I was spending it on something I didn’t even really want. Then to add insult to injury, when the bill arrived and we were dividing it up, her friend and friend’s DH realized they didn’t have enough money to pay for their half of the bill. 😳 😬 They didn’t have a credit card either, so we ended up having to pay for about a third of their bill on top of our half. Who the hell does that? I was so pissed.

I have had French Laundry reservations twice but had to cancel both times .That breaks my heart for you. We’d love to try it one day. Mine was in Las Vegas at Robuchon’s and it was divine, from the food to the atmosphere to the service, worth every cent. I don’t know if I ever even saw the bill, but my portion was several hundred dollars, maybe $400? We don’t drink so didn’t have the wine pairings so that helped significantly, one of the options was well over twice the amount of the meal itself. Off to read your answers, DH and I really enjoy fine dining when we travel so looking for recommendations!

The most I personally ever spent was at a French restaurant in Houston. I slipped in beforehand and pre-ordered, pre-paid to do something nice for my boyfriend. He took it six ways to Sunday the wrong way. (Never wonder why I didn't marry the guy.) That would have been about 1982... and it was a whopping $100 range --- a true extravagance from me at the time. I have been invited to dinners that were far more expensive since, though. (But not by him! ) The first time DH and I went out to eat I ordered for him, simply because we had just decided what we’d both have so we could try each other’s, and you should have seen his face. And then when I went to help or just pay the whole bill. This was 93, and not nearly $100, so you’d think he would have been used to the concept by then!

We’re you able to see what they were doing very well?

I’m not a foodie at all so the priciest meal I’ve had was at the California Grill in Disney World lol. I don’t remember how much it was, but with Disney inflated prices, dd discovering her love of Sushi, and oldest feeling adventurous and ordering the $65 swordfish, a nice bottle of wine, and the custom replica wedding cake for 20th anniversary, $$$. It was a good dinner and the fireworks from outside on the balcony are a fun memory at least!

Driving to Maine for lobster at Dimillo's in Portland.
Emeril's in New Orleans pre-Katrina.
The Disney character breakfasts are pricey, especially if it is a large party including grandparents!

We did Victoria and Alberts at Disney World which was about $185 each plus wine pairings. Absolutely loved it.
We used to do lunch at the races during the Melbourne Spring Carnival that would run about $350 per person.

In the mid 80s in Denver, we got vouchers for an expensive restaurant as a thank you for working overtime. The restaurant was some kind of avant garde/nouvelle cuisine and while the food was presented artistically and tasty, the portions were so small we went to Wendy's afterward. That's the most expensive meal for me, even at 80s prices.

I am fascinated by people who love good food, because I just don’t. Please don’t think I’m judging with my answer. Everyone gets to love what they love. =)
I have had exactly one expensive meal in my life. It was a NYE out with something like six courses at a local restaurant. Our friends rented out the restaurant for several couples from our neighborhood and chose the menu. It was $125/ea just for food and there was hardly a thing I wanted to eat. My husband ended up eating most of mine and his and I pretty much hated the whole experience outside of dressing up and being with my friends. I was bored and starving by the end. It felt so pretentious with everyone oohing and aahing over each plate - how it looked and the flavors.
I’m not a fancy or big eater. I will never be able to eat the amount of food that makes a regular meal at a restaurant, so that alone is a waste to me. And I find it hard to sit that long.
But I love this thread anyway for all the different experiences y’all are describing. I’ll be in heaven at my favorite Mexican restaurant with my single bean and cheese enchilada with a side of rice and all the chips I can eat for about $12.

Wow - some of you have had some really expensive meals! I'll have to venture out to new places and try something new. For me the most expensive meal I've ever had is from a local steak house around $60.00.

A few years ago, my son treated me and my 2 dd to Wolfgang puck. It was inside of a Detroit Casino, after we had flown in, on our way further north. Everyone’s meal was over $100. The food was superior. We ate at Wolfgang Puck's in Las Vegas several years ago. We are still talking about the scallops! I'd eat there again in a heartbeat. Our most expensive meal was in San Diego at a steakhouse. It was good, but probably not worth doing again. ETA - I am not enough of a foodie to enjoy spending hundreds of dollars on a meal. If you do enjoy that, go for it!

Our last anniversary before DH passed, we went to Ruth's Chris and had a wonderful meal. It was bittersweet because we knew it would be our last anniversary together. I think the bill was in the $250 range before tip.

We paid about $30 for a lobster dinner for New Year's Eve. That was about 1986. I don't think I've paid more than that for any meal since.

With DH and I, I think the splurge dinner we had at Disneyland Steakhouse 55. SO yummy.
Without DH, I was at a cake trade show in Orlando, and the friend I was travelling with was working in a supplier booth. They took us out to dinner at the place in their hotel. It was an amazing steakhouse, I've not been to a place before where you ordered your steak and all the sides were extra. They ordered all the sides for the table and paid for everybody's meal. It was fantastic.

I am so not an adventurous eater! I like my food plain and I absolutely dread going out to places like that. Whenever I happen to be eating a meal somewhere “fancy” I just know it will be a struggle to find something I will like on the menu. Everything has some kind of weird cheese or cheese sauce, some type of wine something, a liquor infused sauce, cilantro or onions on it 🤮 or weird seafood. No thanks, LOL. I have no problem with other people eating and enjoying that stuff, it’s just not my thing. I always laugh and tell DH how lucky he is to have found such a cheap date! On the flip side, you can just point me in the direction of the fancy dessert tray, and I’m all over that! (Just leave the whipped cream off of mine because that stuff is also nasty!)

About 5 years ago for our 20th wedding anniversary we went to a local steakhouse that was housed in an old bank; stunning decor and so creative. We were warned how expensive it was beforehand. It was $300 per person. The food was awesome but I’ve had meals just as good for a lot cheaper. The restaurant you went to, did you eat in the vault? We went to one in Medford MA for my friends graduation dinner and you could reserve the vault.
