It's in the piece posted above. Governor Noem just made clear she does not see herself as a government or political leader, but as a religious one. Speaking to Real America's Voice personality David Brody, Noem declared she will bring back prayer in schools (even though voluntary prayer has always been legal) and thinks political leaders are supposed to "minister" to their constituents.I read and I was asking for her quote where she says it because the one I have seen is that she will allow prayer back in school…I interpret that differently than the way the author paraphrased it. I believe the Supreme Court outlawed any teacher-led (or other authority figure) prayer in public schools. Student-led activities outside of the classroom are okay, as is individual praying (no, God has really NOT been “removed” from our schools). It sounds as though she’s talking about reinstating teacher-led classroom prayer. Now she may just be making noise to cater to her audience. But I believe it’s irresponsible for a government leader to suggest such a thing, which she must know has been clearly banned by law. And I resent any government leader suggesting I’m not Christian enough.

Fantastic idea! What a way to teach our kids about different religions and the difference in prayer and practice! I think each day should feature a different religion's prayer...Christian, Judaism, Islam, Hindu, different Pagan sects...any and all. Then repeat Do we get an atheist day where we skip the prayer and play some punk rock instead? I don’t know if I am cool enough to pull off punk rock. In all seriousness though, I think a little education on different religions, taught well, could really be a good thing in today’s schools. Maybe help bring about more compassion and tolerance.

I agree with Laurie. Where does it say she will MANDATE it, and that prayer would be announced overhead by principals and teachers? or are you just speculating?

There is a TV video in the piece. I am not able to get the link.. Below are her words. I doubt she is old enough to have prayed in school unless she is talking moment of silence. Or she went to a private or religious school. Noem also said, “We prayed in schools, which by the way, in South Dakota, I’m putting prayer back in our schools.”We contacted the governor’s office to ask what she was referring to when she said she was putting prayer back in our schools. We were only told to “stay tuned”. Supreme Court rulings have largely banned prayer in public schools since the 1960′s. www.kotatv.com/2021/07/20/noem-says-shes-putting-prayer-back-schools/

That does not mean mandating. Until I heard her actual plan, or those exact words, I'll wait. She is also a big blow hard. She talks out her ass half the time. She's a big Trump supporter, what do you expect?!!

Yes, basically lip service. Not lip service. Dog whistles. Coded language to tell her rabid base that the kids will start the mornings w/the "Lord's Prayer" just like they used to in the olden times when everything was perfect, blacks knew their place, the only rapes were those who were "asking for it", and gays were afraid for their lives. GOOD TIMES!

I don't like her and disagree with what she said, but I don't think there are any actual plans to put prayer in schools, at least not yet. This sounds like something she said in July. www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/jul/22/kristi-noem/kristi-noem-putting-prayer-back-schools-no-evidenc/She keeps saying there will be legislation, but nothing yet. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/despite-court-rulings-south-dakota-s-noem-pushes-school-prayer-n1279445"We've seen our society, our culture, degrade as we've removed God out of our lives.... When I was growing up, we spent every Sunday, every night, every Wednesday night in church. Our church family was a part of our life. We read the Bible every day, as a family, together.... I don't know if families do that as much anymore, and those Biblical values are learned in the family, and they're learned in church.... We in South Dakota have decided to take action to really stand for Biblical principles.... I have legislation I'll be proposing this year that will allow us to pray in schools again." Like other Republicans, she's just saying what the base wants to hear. She did this 2 years ago www.npr.org/2019/07/25/744909500/south-dakota-public-schools-add-in-god-we-trust-signs-to-walls

Yeah, "biblical principles" and studying them day-in, day-out, did so much to help all the rape-y priests, pastors, preachers. But then "biblical principles" are aok w/rape and slavery, so, there's that.

This is all part and parcel of the GOP’s plans to defund/destroy public schools and replace them with charter schools that receive public money but can teach whatever they want. Many of these will be operated on “biblical principles” and it will be too bad for the families that have different beliefs. There won’t be viable public schools left for them to attend. They fully intend to put mandatory prayer back in schools by making sure the charters that get funded are the ones that require Christian prayer. And the current SC is not likely to stop them.
