I'm looking to replace my Cricut Expressions (1st version 12x12 Cricut) and my Silhouette Portrait 1. Does the ScanNCut only Scan and Cut? I don't buy patterned paper that needs images cut. I will be using it to cut stamped images, purchased SVG's, and cut letters for random projects. I was planning to upgrade to the Portrait 3 with a BF sale. Should I be looking at a SNC too? Oh no, it does so much more! You can design your own files, purchase any SVG file from etsy or Silhouette Design Store, cut all kinds of fonts for titles, make your own borders and shapes. Some machines come loaded with a ton of designs too like my SDX225. The scan portion is for your stamps/digital stamps, or images that you want to fussy cut quickly! It works BEST with non-textured heavier cardstock. You can easily layer titles, outline even purchased SVG's. While I am on a scrapping or even card-making roll, mine gets a great workout.

If you can get a free download of their software, I recommend that you give the software a try. You won’t be able to cut, but you can get a feel for the software and whether you like it or the Silhouette software better.
I have both a Cameo and a Scan N Cut. I love the ability of the Scan N Cut to cut out my stamped images, but I love all I can do with the Silhouette software, and I have never felt a need or desire to learn to use the SNC software. I have had many different cutters over the years, and there was one software that I really hated. I loved the machine (Gazelle), but detested the software and the dongle that went with the machine. I’m not fond of the Cricut software, either.
However, some people love software that I don’t like, and hate the Silhouette software because they want something simpler. Definitely give the SNC software a trial run if you can, and see what you think before you make your decision as to whether to buy both, or just one machine.

What model did everyone buy? I’m trying to figure out which one is best for what I do. The biggest thing I want to is to cut out is stamps and maybe some fabrics.

after ditching three Cricut machine years ago, i finally decided to give it another try and got a Scan n Cut in September 2020. i don't know about the models you are looking into but, overall, i think the Scan n Cut machine are great. lots of online help on Youtube. i like the ability to transfer by wi-fi because i don't like fiddling with thumb drives. the only thing i wish it had was a much larger screen. my screen is a bit larger than previous models so that's a little helpful. i'm just glad i don't do much editing on the screen. that is why the wi-fi transfer is so handy.

Alanda Craft has great step by step tutorials . . . and no I do not represent them. I just like how they have video modules so that you can skip around if you like. Well worth the money!

Sam’s Club had the SDX85 bundle with 12x24 mat, roll of vinyl, and I think an extra blade for $224.98 ($75 discount). The sale ends Friday, December 3.
EDIT: There is a pen holder included in the accessories bundle, not an extra blade.
I am sooooo tempted! But I have a Silhouette and Cricut already, and I don’t even use those as much as I should now that I don’t teach any more. But I do want to use my stash of stamps more, and I suck at fussy cutting, so maybe this is what I need. I tried using the Picscan mats with my Silhouette but never mastered it, so maybe this is the answer LOL. I have almost $200 in Ibotta rewards—maybe I should cash them in for a Sam’s gift card…..

Do Cricut mats work with this machine?
ETA: It looks like the answer is “no.” That is probably the deciding factor for me. At this time, I don’t want to invest in new mats and keep track of them separately since I don’t really NEED the machine.

I have a Cameo3 and purchased a Scan n Cut to help with fussy cutting. I’m sad to say I have never use the scan and cut. I just always go to my silhouette. Hopefully in the new year I will make use of it. I’m glad to have it I guess but it only works if I use it
