Right handed, mostly figure of eight, yes to anti-clockwise and yes to willy nilly.

I voted Other. I'm ambidextrous. I stir anti-clockwise with my right hand and clockwise with my left. I just realised that I whisk the other way round though; clockwise with my right and anti-clockwise with my left. I never realised before that that was unusual. I'm just broken, I think.
I asked DH and he follows the herd: he is right handed and stirs clockwise with his right hand.

Right-handed, anti-clockwise (although in my part of the USA we'd say "counter clockwise" ) -- I will say that I had to go get a pot and a spoon and try it since I couldn't figure out which way I do it by just pretending. lol. And also, I think I get more power behind my stirs by going counter clockwise, at least by the way I hold a spoon it seems that way. And.... I also have never stirred hard boiled eggs, even before I had an Instant Pot. Now of course the IP does all the work.

I am left handed and stir counter/anti clockwise. I can’t be the only one? Where are all the lefties. Hahaha. 😀

I have no idea what I do when doing a quick stir. If instructions say to stir continuously, I generally do the figure 8 thing.
I’ve also never stirred boiling eggs. They’re on their own to straighten themselves out.

Right handed. Store both clockwise and counter clockwise. Especially when mixing a batter by hand.
Soup and fluid like things are pretty much clockwise.

Okay, can I start a poll inside a poll? And send this thread off on another tangent? I wrote "anti-clockwise" because that's the terminology used here. But some of you have said "counter-clockwise" so I guess that's the common terminology in the US? Yes I never actually heard the term anti clockwise; only counter clockwise. Also I’ve never thought about which direction I stir, and I surprised myself to realize I stir counter-clockwise. Did the eggs crack when you stirred them?

I only steam eggs rather than boiling because it makes them really easy to peel.

I’ve never said figure of 8 before either. Just figure 8.
I’m wondering how stirring in one direction does anything to center yolks. Don’t they just roll around in any direction regardless?

Clockwise. Do you folks in the southern hemisphere stir the opposite direction?

I am left handed. 80-90% of the time I stir clockwise so that was my vote. But I also stir in a disorganized "everywhichway" fashion the rest of the time. eta: I have never stirred boiling eggs. same

Mixed dominance, and I stir with either hand, sometimes clockwise, sometimes counter-clockwise.

I voted other because I’m left handed but stir equally with both hands I’d say (I do a lot of things with my right). Both hands are clockwise though.

I almost always start clockwise. If it is something I have to stir constantly like candy or fudge, I start clockwise and move to a figure eight and go counter clockwise as well.

I'm right handed and stir clockwise. It doesn't feel natural to me to stir things counter clockwise.

I knew I shouldn't have mentioned the eggs! You'll never learn! The thread about stirring is now all about cooking eggs and how many people have never heard of such a thing! Heathens. I'll validate you, I stir them when I want fancy eggs too - devilled eggs or if I want to cut them up later for a sandwich...I want even yolk and white and not all the white down one end. I'm right handed and I'm an 'other' because I alternate directions every few rotations. So, did it work? Were the yolks centred? How do we judge where the centre of an egg is?? when the yolk is equidistant from both ends all and there's an even amount of white around the circumference.

I’m right handed. But because of rheumatoid arthritis and shoulder problems I use bot hands. And alternate directions, not necessarily a figure 8.

I don't do either. I keep myself entertained by making patterns and writing letters with the stirring utensil.

I’m right handed and clockwise feels right. But I’ve trained myself to use my left hand as often as I can on repetitive motions, to help with horrible painful tendinitis I’ve gotten if I’m not careful. I once went on a kick making my own refried beans from scratch, and ended up having to do physical therapy.

First of all, I never stir hard boiled eggs because I do them in the pressure cooker.
As for stirring, I’m right-handed and stir all three ways.
If I’m standing at the stove stirring something so it doesn’t stick—figure 8 stirring works better for me because I need to keep stuff from sticking in the middle of the pan, too.
Whisking or stirring anything where I have to tilt the bowl—clockwise.
Stirring something stiff like cookie dough where I have to hold the spoon the way you would to stab someone (LOL that’s the only way I can think to describe it!)—counter-clockwise it is.
Holding a spoon the way I would if eating, for instance when stirring my coffee or something like oatmeal—counter-clockwise.

I knew I shouldn't have mentioned the eggs! But then again, it wouldn't be Two Peas if a thread didn't go at least a little bit off tangent haha! For the record, I always make my hard boiled eggs in the Thermomix, so I don't usually stir them. But yesterday I was making these Asian Spicy Deviled Ramen Eggs, and one of the hints was to stir frequently in the same direction to ensure that the yolks were centered. So being a rule follower, that's what I did. I should change my post to say "Yesterday I was making pasta sauce......" But then someone would probably say "Do you call it pasta sauce? We always call it spaghetti sauce." Well, you’ve just stumbled into a thing. LOL. If you’re looking for a poll within a poll within a poll within a poll, try asking Italian Americans if they say “spaghetti sauce” or “spaghetti gravy.” It usually provokes a lively debate. The controversy (Spoiler: Historians claim earlier Italian immigrants to the U.S. chose the English word “gravy” as a way to assimilate. There is no similar word for “gravy” in the Italian language, just “sauce.”)

I stir willy nilly. Figure 8s, back and forth, clockwise, counter clockwise, etc. I like to keep things mixed up good and don’t want anything to stick. Yep, this is me. I probably start clockwise, but I do a lot of zigzags because I don't want anything to stick. Usually, if I'm stirring I'm either making gravy or pudding.
