DIL and DS ordered me a new IPhone which was delivered today by UPS according to the tracking number. I was not home, but DH was and saw the truck stop. The driver sat there a little bit, then drove away. When DH went out to get the package, he could not find it đ§. He even looked at the condos across the street, but no package. I came home knowing from DS text that it was delivered, and looked for it. DS called, and said itâs there. We looked again and found it hidden behind the hedge near the garage. When I picked it up, the box felt too light, but I opened it and the box was empty!!đ. We looked, and saw where the end of the box had been forced open, and the phone removed. Apple, of course, will investigate and replace, but I still canât believe a UPS driver could take it and think they wonât get caught (but will probably be fired).

I hope that you are reimbursed. When I ordered my phone, I cancelled delivery and went to UPS to pick it up, because I was afraid that it would be delivered when I was not home.

I would not assume AT ALL that it was the driver. It's possible, of course, but they know they would get caught - it doesn't make a lot of sense.

That sucks! I hope it turns out that it wasn't the UPS driver, and I hope you will receive a replacement without having to jump through hoops. Every time I purchased a device from Apple, the only way to have it delivered is with signature only. But it's been several years, so things may be different now.

But why was the package hidden so well? Was your DH observing the driver the whole time? Kinda sounded like it, but maybe not. Anyway, if there's a porch pirate following the UPS dude, I can totally see them running up to a house to grab a box, then running to a side area to open the box, then ditching the packaging. Easier to hide an iphone box on yourself than a brown shipping box. But I'm really surprised that Apple as a matter of course doesn't require signatures.

I am having problems with UPS too. I have been home and watched my driver walk up and place the package. As soon as he steps away I get it from the back door. The last 2 boxes I have gotten have been opened. One box had been cut open with a box cutter Iâm assuming (it was missing an entire side) the second box was opened but just the tape. I donât think itâs the driver but I do think itâs a UPS issue of some sort. By the way my items were all there, it was cooking items, but I did have to get one item replaced because it was damaged, I assume from a fall. I guess my thief didnât want to cook

Yikes. We had that happen with two iPhones last year. Took Verizon a long time to get it âinvestigatedâ and resent.

You said you had to hunt for the package, so your husband must not have had eyes on the driver the whole time or he would have seen the driver put the package behind the hedge. Maybe one of your neighbors has a video doorbell or security camera that might show the area?

We have security cameras on every entrance to our house so we can see every person who comes up to the house and any of the doors or the garage doors for that very reason. Not so much because we donât trust our UPS guy but because there have been so many reports of cars and trucks following the UPS truck through the neighborhood on our NextDoor group.

We live in a gated community, and I donât think there are security cameras at any condos.

Oh my goodness, we had something similar happen but with FedEx. My husband ordered a phone for my daughter and it arrived in a padded mailing envelope. The package was open, rolled and tucked behind a statue on our porch. Thereâs no way the driver couldnât have noticed. Jokeâs on him because it was a super cheap tracphone we bought in case of emergency.

DIL will have the replacement package requiring a signature. Dont count on that. My phone did require a signature and was still left anyway. They usually do because they donât even ring the bell. In fact I had alcohol delivered which should be a signature AND an ID check but it was just left. Knock on wood, I havenât had things stolen. But it aggravates me when I request a signature delivery, sit home all day & they do not even ring the bell much less wait for a signature. Itâs not that hard to do correctly. But Iâm assuming itâs the lack of time they give the drivers. OP I hope you get your new phone soon.

I agree that I wouldnât count on a signature. We had a whole mess with a laptop for DDâtwice. Once in Minneapolis and once at our house in Virginia.

Yes, that whole signature required thing isn't always observed. Dd had a laptop delivered from her new employer. "Signature required" and "will be delivered between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m." She was out working her other job and I planned to be home by noon. Got home around noon and there was the laptop waiting on the porch, no signature needed obviously since no one was home. That laptop ended up having something wrong with it so dd returned it and the company sent another one. Same thing about signature required. Dd was home ALL day that day. I happened to be in the driveway just getting ready to leave to do some errands when a FedEx truck pulled up, a guy got out, and from way back down the walkway from the porch he FLUNG a package up on the steps. Yep, dd's laptop. Surprisingly, that one worked just fine. But the company was mad because they'd paid extra for that signature thing. OP, I hope you get your new phone without any more problems!

Yeah, Iâm not happy with the flinging of packages either. It didnât used to be that way. But lately they just seem to give more & more to the drivers without hiring the appropriate amount of drivers to do the tasks anymore. People order much more online but the routes are the same as when we ordered less. Thereâs also so sort of mechanism that records if they are stopped for a delivery âtoo longâ and the can get penalized. And by âtoo longâ I guess it means anything longer than throwing the package at the porch like a football. I afraid to complain and get the driver fired when Iâm pretty sure itâs not the drivers fault. When I used to work in an office the delivery guy stayed and flirted with the bosses daughter for a few minutes, back when deliveries were about good service. Now itâs about how many things you can throw at how many houses. They did that once when I was literally weeding by the mailbox and it would have been quicker to hand me the last mage than to throw it at the porch.

I live in a small town. Ring bell and surveillance camera's all over. My problem isn't them flinging or throwing packages, my problem is UPS, USPS and Fedex delivering at 9 or 10p.
I've asked and they basically are overwhelmed and have been for more than a year. I don't understand why they don't hire more people.
I notice that UPS and Fedex now have golf carts and little trailers on the back delivering with our regular trucks to help lighten the load. But they said that those guys now are supervisors that have left their job to help the delivery guys catch up. They usually only have this during Nov and Dec. with temporary employees.

I would think if the driver was stealing it they would do it from a parking lot and not in front of your house.

Yeah, I am with the others on signatures. Fed Ex handed a box of wine that was not even ours to my 18 year old son, who was home without us there, with is 18 year old friend. Fed Ex should've asked for a signature and ID for over 21. Luckily he thought it was my produce box and never even looked at it. It not being our wine, we would've never known he had it if he had wanted to keep it for himself and have a party.
