I try to save up errands all for one day if I can, and today was that day. Costco, first thing when they opened, the usual morning people -- everyone wearing a mask. UPS store, two employees, four or five customers waiting in line -- everyone wearing a mask. CVS (to try to schedule my covid booster), lots of employees, random number of customers -- everyone wearing a mask. Library -- everyone wearing a mask. Grocery store -- everyone wearing a mask. Home Depot, NO ONE wearing a mask except for some of the employees! I thought I'd entered a time warp or something. And it was SO crowded. I went in the door, took one look, turned right around and left. I live in a very Democratic area so I was shocked to see so many bare faces! Like I said, time warp. The only place from my errands list that actually *requires* masks is the library, the others have signs that say we are encouraged to wear them. So what is it about Home Depot that attracts the non-mask-wearing crowd?

Home Depot is a known trump supporter. I won’t give them my business. Not sure if this is why the maskless are shopping there, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

There is very little mask wearing in my area. Sometimes I am about the only one with one on. The only exception was the library where everyone was masked because they have a sign on the door requiring it.

I am seeing less and less masks, maybe 50% now. Lot of store employees are still wearing them through. Our rates for shots and actual cases is good, so it doesn’t bother me too much. I still wear a mask even though I am vaccinated.

Lowe's is horrible about making people wear masks here. Home Depot used to have a bouncer at the door, so it wasn't quite as bad, but Lowe's has been horrible the entire pandemic so much that I won't shop there if I can help it. The last time I was in there at least half of the 15 people I walked past to get to the service counter didn't even try to look like they were wearing a mask.

One of the original FOUNDERS of Home Depot donated to his original campaign but that man hasn't had anything to do with Home Depot since he sold it years ago. And I just Googled it to make sure and apparently this same guy blasted DT after the January insurrection. I think it's safe to support Home Depot in general.

I had the EXACT same experience as you! I even looked to see where you were from. I couldn't believe how many people were not wearing masks at Home Depot. Then I noticed some of the employees wearing them but under their nose or chin. I asked to speak to the manager and told her that I know it's hard to mandate the wearing of masks, which is required in our state, but I at least expect them to make sure all the employees were wearing them properly. I won't go back to HD after what I saw there.

Not much mask wearing here of customers. Employees in most places are wearing masks. A few places have signs up but they aren't prominently displayed and there is no one at the door anymore. Early on the grocery stores had someone cleaning carts. Now you are lucky if they have any wipes out at all. I don't expect there to be a person there anymore with the staff shortages but wipes would be nice.
We had 3 more deaths in the county last week. It's not over even though people seem to behave like it is.

I do not live in a blue area. I'm vaccinated and still wearing a mask. There was one other (older) lady wearing a mask at the library book sale this morning - and her unmasked friend was commenting on how she had a bunch of masks and she'll wear one if she HAS too but otherwise she doesn't like to and she's not vaccinated and won't be...I was glad to know to keep my distance, lol.
We stopped a couple of other places where no one was masked, one place where the cashier had a mask but it was under her nose, and one place where no one was masked but the employee noticed we were masked and commented that he would keep his distance since we were obviously trying to be safe - fair enough.

Blue state, masks mandated if you're unvaccinated (and my state's vaccination rate is 78 percent) and it's really, really rare to see anyone indoors without a mask. Like I'd say 90 percent are still wearing them, if not more.

I'm not wearing a mask unless it is mandated or if they ask. I wear it at work and there are a couple of counties that require it. I haven't been anywhere lately that it is required (unless you are not vaxxed).
The only place that has stopped me to put on a mask was at Trader Joe's in Boulder... I had no idea Boulder was mandating masks. But no problem.. I had it right with me.
I am just following the rules... nothing more..

I rarely see masks where I live.
Headed to Chicago for the weekend and am expecting quite a different situation, given their mask mandates.

In the Texas county I live in we have on average 3 deaths a day - repeat - 3 people are dying every day on average. Some days it is more, some days it is less, but it averages out to 3 a day. In the whole state of Texas it is 224 a day. Yet people wearing masks are not something you can take for granted.
ETA: In Harris County it is 26 people a day that are dying on average. My county pop. is approx 363,000 Harris county is approx. 4.713 million
I am not mathematically inclined, so not going to figure out the rate per thousand, but just looking at the numbers, my county is NOT being careful.

I am also in Texas.. in a county that still has covid related hospitalized or death...
Most people around here didn't wear masks even when there was a mandate...they still don't.. and I would say most are not vaccinated.. even people who have lost loved ones are anti-vax... truly baffles me...
No masks...the pandemic never existed here..

I don't wear a mask anywhere unless I am required to do so, in which case I'll mask up.
I've had covid. I've had the vaccine. I'm going to get a booster shot when it is available to me. I social distance whenever possible and I'm diligent about washing my hands.
I think the chances of me either contracting covid or giving someone covid simply because I'm shopping in the same store they are is pretty low.
If the numbers in my state start to spike and masks are recommended again, I'll mask up.
However, the number of people who have tested positive for covid in my state and the number of those who are hospitalized w/ covid have decreased dramatically this Fall, despite the fact that people have been attending sold out college football games and other big events.

I live in a very blue city in a red state and I rarely see masks anywhere I go these days, maybe a few people at the grocery store. Our school district requires masks indoors, but compliance depends on the activity. Few places require them or even have signs encouraging them...but when employees don't even wear them there's not a lot of people wearing them as a courtesy.

I'm in IL and we have an indoor mandate, so it's pretty rare to see folks without them entirely. Lot of noses out, though. 🙄

No mask mandate except for schools in some districts. We have a surge that started the week of Sept 8th. While it is down a bit from then, our hospitals are still full and they are operating in Orange, which means surgeries are cancelled, care is reduced, etc.
I am vaxed and received my booster this week. I wear a mask constantly while running errands. However, I am a Democrat living on a red State. Everyone in my extended family are like I am except 1 family member who lives in Idaho. He obviously drank the Koolaid.
I rarely see anyone wearing a mask out running my errands. It is sad.

The majority of people in my area are wearing masks indoors, but enough aren't that I have to wonder. My DD's MIL has lung cancer & chemotherapy has wiped out her immune system. My DD is also 7 months pregnant with a high risk pregnancy. I'm doing all I can to protect them and that means I faithfully mask up.

Dh and I are still choosing to wear masks. Live in a red area, only 50% vaccinated here. Dh and I are fully vaccinated, including the booster, as of last week. However, I have been dealing with a cardiac issue and my doctor stresses the importance of several prevention s, including mask wearing. Such a simple thing, easy to do.

Masking went way back up most places back in mid-August when our Delta surge started. Now it's more like 50/50 in retail stores, though honestly I don't pay that much attention.

England has lifted its mask rules. It's now a 'use your common sense' request, which means that the vulnerable and their families continue to wear masks whether vaccinated or not, and everybody else does as they please.
Last Saturday I went to my first non-medical appointment since March, the opticians', which does have a mask mandate and PPE for the staff. The Mall itself was deserted at 9am, but inside the opticians' I counted 7 people with either no masks or wearing them as chin hammocks or with their noses sticking out. Monday morning I got pinged by the Test and Trace app from that visit, and had to get a PCR test (thankfully negative).
This morning I had to go back to get my new lenses fitted. Exactly the same, 7 people with no masks on at all. I was told to leave my glasses and come back in an hour. I told them I would be waiting outside or in the car because I was vulnerable, then went for a walk. An hour later I went back and they hadn't been able to fit the lenses because the new ones had been cut to the wrong size, and now I have to go back for a 3rd time. They left me waiting in the cold for an hour without ringing me, then gave the glasses back to me covered in fingerprints and grease. Once I get my glasses back I don't think I'll be going back to them.

They required masks to be worn and all the employees had them on properly. Asked us to use hand sanitizer. Kept us 6 feet from all other customers. They're under healthcare center rules (which are different from retail) and took it very seriously. I'm so sorry you had that experience.

Belgium here. We live in the Wallonia area (French speaking area in the south). Our mask mandates are still up when you can’t social distance. Everyone around here still wear them as far as I can tell. A lot of our shops have partitions between the workers and the customers. I’ve noticed that in some shops, the employees don’t always wear masks if they are separated from the customer. But in my French class and English conversation group, we wear masks.
