So I have hives all over my legs. Was st the ER last night and got a big dose of steroids and benadryl.
My doctor did not call in the higher dose cortisone cream 🤦‍♀️ sooooooo
Has anyone used Calamine Lotion for hives?
I have to keep taking benadryl every 6 hours and my steroid will last 3 days from the dose I had.
The cortisone 1% isn't helping the hives.
I think the drying affect of calamine will help as well as how good it takes care of itching.
Haven't used it since I was 5 with chickenpox.
So anyone with hives use it and how well did it work?

I get itchy legs in the summer due to allergies and use calamine lotion. It helps the itching but not sure if it will help with hives. I hope you find something that gives you some relief.

I use Claritin when I have itching/hives from eating something I am allergic to. Works pretty good. Calamine has never helped me with hives.

I get hives pretty often and calamine doesn’t work for me. I am allergic to Benadryl so I take vistaril and Zyrtec together. Honestly, I have a prescription hydrocortisone cream but have found for me, the best thing for itching is taking the pills, as hard as it is try not to scratch and apply a cool item to the skin such as a cooled spoon, or drops of water from melted ice (this works better than an ice pack for me).

I am taking Benadryl every 6 hours and the steroids have really started to work. Just applied calamine over all 34 hives. Yes, 34.  So far it has been cooling and now is tightening my skin and the itch is gone! |

I do daily Zyrtec for my allergies. Mine are all food based and insect based with 2 trees and grass. Trees and grass are non anaphylaxis but the majority of foods and insects are.

It did not help my husbands hives at all. What about PepcidAC? He was put on that for his chronic idiopathic urticaria. Now he takes xyzal. It won’t be as immediate as a cream might be, but it could help. I’d ask your pharmacist. (well, first he was put on the one that has been discontinued). I’m sorry you’re so miserable.

This summer I broke out in hives on my lower legs after petting a dog. I know you asked about lotion and I'm glad it worked. It has worked for mosquito bites with me. Another thing I did was put a knee brace on each calve and insert an ice pack into each one. Numbing works. 
I don't know why but benadryl makes me extremely sleepy. It did help, but I slept most of the day.

I've only used it as a kid for raging cases of poison oak. My grandfather who was a pharmacist always made me put Noxema over the calamine lotion, because calamine is so drying.

I just dealt with this a few weeks back. Nothing helped much at all. Calamine helped for 5 mins tops then I was back to a itchy scratchy mess.
The only thing that helped for long enough to be of any real relief was a topical Benadryl gel that had lidocaine in it.
I was so desperately miserable that I went to Walgreens and got whatever looked like it might help. And out of 6 or so topicals, that was the best.
Mine started to diminish after 2 days and after a week they were all gone. I hope yours are gone soon also!

The brand name is called “Itch Eraser” and active ingredient is diphenhydramine. And I was wrong - it doesn’t have lidocaine in it - I am shocked because it really did work so good and I blamed it on the lidocaine I thought it had lol…. |
