Scoliosis screening never happened for me, but it did for our son (now age 45).
Head lice screening happened every time an outbreak happened in the school. It was also still happening in 2010 when I retired. I hated knowing a student had head lice because even though I was in the library and chances of the lice getting on me were small, I immediately began to have "phantom" itching and just knew I could feel something in my hair.

Scoliosis- yes. Multiple times at school. That was how they found something in my cousin.
Never for head lice
Eta- our pcp did the scoliosis at the kids annuals each year, I don't know if they did them at school for them or not

Yes, and color blindness and hearing checks.
ETA after reading the Judy Blume book Deenie I was convinced I was going to end up with scoliosis and have to wear a back brace. It was terrifying. Especially since they always took extra time on my back (so it seemed).

Scoliosis, yes. Lice, no.
Lice were completely abstract to me - I never heard of anyone having them until I was an adult. Now, however, I work at an elementary school... LOL

Scoliosis yes. I do seem to remember around kindergarten or 1st grade the nurse doing head checks on everyone in the class because a classmate had lice.
My 8th grader just had his scoliosis check.

Scoliosis - yes, I remember screenings at school, but never for head lice (I'm 64). DD's pediatrician checked her every year, but I don't recall them happening at her school.

Yes to both of those and I hated them both so much. The lice check happened in the classroom as we were sitting there working so if they were to find something it would be obvious - I remember it happening to other kids or the 2nd checker coming over to also inspect someone’s head and I was mortified it would happen to me.

I was checked for scoliosis when I was in elementary school, around grade 5 or 6 I think. I really don't remember being traumatized by it - we had talked about it in health class so I suppose they must have given us information at that point. I do remember being told that it strikes girls more than boys and I also remember thinking great, periods and bending spines.
They were still doing them when my kids were in school - my friend's dd was diagnosed during one of the checks.
I don't remember ever being checked for lice but I also don't recall a single outbreak. It must have happened - we played baseball and shared batting helmets and wore shared helmets when we played ringette in gym class.

I remember the scoliosis checks along with height, weight and eyesight.
I don't remember even hearing about lice, or headchecks. But in high school gym class, we were told there was an outbreak of scabies and I was terrified of getting it.

Scoliosis- yes. (And I have it, so also at doctors office, even now)
Lice -no. Nor for my kids.

Yes for both. The scoliosis screening really freaked me out. They had all the girls line up without telling us why and then a stranger started putting his hands under our shirts all over our backs. I almost noped out of there because it just seemed creepy and no one would tell me why it was happening. It was a giant secret for some reason.
Then of course I got a letter sent home that I needed a follow up with my doctor for scoliosis. That was total vindication for me as I'd been telling my mom for years that my back hurt and she ignored me because she thought I just wanted to be excused from PE all the time.
Head lice screening I only remember happening once in a lower grade.

Yup! Yearly in elementary and Jr highfor scoliosis. In Jr high it was during state physicals where we had to do push ups, sit uos, etc for the Arnold S fitness challenge.
Never in high school.
Headline checks were when a student had it.
We also had yearly vision and hearing screens.
All still done in my area.

I vaguely remember the nit nurse visiting us in primary school.
Scoliosis, no except for boarders. They had to have chest x-rays before being accepted, and one girl wore a back brace because her x-ray found her scoliosis. I'm still in touch with her and her back is perfect now. I was not a boarder, and my scoliosis wasn't discovered until I was an adult. Luckily it's very mild and my body has grown up with it so I've had very few issues.
But if I ever make old bones, those bones and the bones I've broken over the years are going to be the problem ones. I can feel it in my... well, you know...

Also DEENIE! Yep, I was totally convinced they were going to say "Yes, she has scoliosis."

Scoliosis checks for me but never a lice check for me or my kids.
Someone had lice at their preschool because all the soft toys/furniture and dress-up things disappeared for cleaning and we were told to check out kids, but nothing was done at school.

No scoliosis checks for me. (Well, none at school. The doctor checked regularly, though.)
We did have yearly vision & hearing tests, and at least yearly lice checks, although they may have happened twice a year. I know they definitely did them in the winter. Did all of the extra winter gear made the issue more prevalent then, perhaps? I have no idea.
We were also fingerprinted, given regular fluoride treatments, and had at least one vaccination/booster.
Oh, and they gave us those crazy little red tablets to chew to see how much plaque was on our teeth. Ewww.

I had scoliosis checks (elementary school in late 80s.) I don’t remember lice checks but I have been told the6 happened if there was an outbreak.
When I was teaching in the late 90s and early 2000s they were not doing either anymore. But lice notices would go out if there was an outbreak. Kids who had lice were sent home.
My boys are now 8n high school. Never had either check at school. Kids aren’t sent h8me for lice anymore either.

melanell I remember those little red pills. Scoliosis checks were at the doctor. Amazingly, I didn't know 20th century American kids got lice until I was an adult! I entered kindergarten in the mid 60s, we also did shots and things like the sugar cube at the doctor, not given at school. ETA: I forgot about hearing and eyesight, we had those at school.

me? no to scoliosis (and I wish we had - mine wasn't diagnosed until adulthood), hearing/eyesight? no again (and again, I wish otherwise as I lost most vision in one eye to lazy eye that wasn't diagnosed until I was 17). probably not lice either - it was something I only heard of in books until my middle went to school (and brought it home).
My kids? yes to scoliosis and vision/hearing. I also always made sure they were checked by the paediatrician and had regular eye exams due to my history - one of mine did have lazy eye, caught as a preschooler and treated successfully). As far as I can tell, lice checks were only done (by the nurse) if you were returning to school after having had lice.

Lice screening in elementary school. Hearing tests, too. Both performed by the school nurse. Scoliosis checks in middle school as part of gym class.

I remember a couple of lice checks but I'm not sure about scoliosis. (which was done at the doctor)
My younger cousin had scoliosis but I'm pretty sure hers was spotted by her doctor because it was in the summer.

As a child I never had a lice scare and neither did my children. Thank goodness. I was checked for scoliosis and so were my kids.

We were screened for scoliosis in gym. We had hearing and vision screening as well, which is when they discovered I was nearsighted. I never heard of head lice until my children had it and no, they didn't screen for it. We did, though, have air raid drills under the desks.

We had hearing and vision tests and earthquake drills. I lived in the Bay area right right after the big 1989 quake. After that we did a lot of earthquake drills in school. Our parents had to send us with a box of emergency supplies to keep at our desk and when the earthquake drill alarm went off we had to crouch under our desks for a few minutes. I was 6 or 7. Once I moved out of that school district there were no more earthquake drills.

I don’t recall having scoliosis screenings, but head lice checks— yes. When lice was going around, parent volunteers would sit in the back of the classroom and we’d have to go back there so they could go through our hair with chopsticks.
It think Deenie scared many of us. I was also convinced I’d be diagnosed with scoliosis and have to deal with the Milwaukee brace.

We had fluoride treatments and the disclosing tabs at the dentist. I was also fingerprinted--the sheet is in my baby book-- but I think that it was just a safety event put on by the police. I wonder where those are on file... or if they were digitized ever....
