I can't say mine ever does. I am a HUGE fan of squash. I make great stewed savoury pumpkin (Japanese) and it is amazing. I love butternut squash soup. I love pan fried, breaded or not, deep fried or bbqed zucchini. Love that. No one else will eat it. Cucumber. I love it. It has sort of a sweet mellow taste, no? Love, love it. Family are all disgusted by it. Watermelon is a love. Very cold, very very crunchy, sweet and lots of salt. Great fruit of summer and if I am feeling like a pick me up in winter I get a small piece then too!
What is your take on squash? Like? Dislike? Hate?

Love all squash except spaghetti and yellow squash. Butternut squash is something I could eat everyday. DH wasn't a fan until he had it roasted and now he loves it. Same thing for zucchini, although admittedly he loves it more in zucchini bread or muffins than cooked as a side. Cucumbers and watermelons are favorites as well!

We are squash fans at our house. My favorite is butternut squash soup and DH favorite is zucchini in tomatoes.

My absolute favourite squash is yellow summer squash. They're a popular vegetable down here in NC and across the South. My favorite way to cook them is sliced along with a sweet onion and sauteed in a skillet until both the squash and the onions caramelize. Oh my goodness, these are SO good you'll be tempted to bitch slap yo momma.
These are especially good with Vidalia onions, but the Walla Wallas or Hawaiian ones are really great, too. If I can't get any of those, I get the larger yellow onions, not the small storage onions with the brown skins that are super tart and make you cry. I never buy those anymore. I cook with the large sweet onions, red onions, and shallots.
My second favourite way to serve yellow summer squash is squash casserole. Pepperidge Farm Cornbread stuffing mix, half on the bottom of the casserole dish, parboil the squash and onions, drain, mix with cream of mushroom soup and sour cream and diced carrots, pour into casserole dish and top with remainder of the dry stuffing mix. This is a signature dish for holidays. Squash casserole is famous throughout the South and a staple at cafeterias and meat and threes. Some kinds don't use the sour cream, but I prefer the casserole with the condensed cream soup (some recipes use cream of chicken or cream of celery--we used to use cream of chicken until we subbed the mushroom after running out of the chicken, and YUM!)
For Thanksgivings when dh and I don't cook, dh still loves for me to make this casserole, and we eat it for our dinners until it's gone. It's a great meatless dish if you don't use the cream of chicken. It's very hearty. I make up a huge pan as well as my cherry cranberry sauce and most years at least a small turkey breast so we can have sandwiches. I do this for our dinner usually the Friday after Thanksgiving, and we eat leftovers until everything gets eaten up. We look forward to this all year.
My "adopted" sister just had major surgery, so to make Thanksgiving stress free for her (she hosts because she has the space) my mom, aunt (if she can get off--she's a nurse) dh, me, and my sister's husband are going to Cracker Barrel for Thanksgiving lunch. We all love Thanksgiving, and they're serving turkey with all the sides, plus pumpkin pecan streusel pie and pecan pie. I know our gourmet Thanksgiving meals are so much tastier, but dh and I are just so thankful to be so near family now after years of living out of state, too far to travel for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. We don't care what we eat.
Sauteed squash and zucchini are great. I also love to grill summer squash, zucchini, onions and red bell peppers that I mix with a bit of minced garlic and red wine vinegar. I like zucchini a lot, but I'm not a big fan of zucchini baked goods.
I'm not as thrilled with fall squashes. It's the texture mostly. I also don't like my squash vegetable sides to be sweet. I make a mean homemade pumpkin pie, but I'm not a huge fan of pumpkin. It's just everywhere. It's like this decade's cilantro or pesto. I do love acorn squash with salt and pepper, but they're harder to cut, and I just don't think about serving them a lot. I really prefer broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, turnip greens and collards.
I do really like turnips and parsnips. The Southern way to eat turnips is boiled with some Wyler's chicken bouillon flakes.
I haven't had a chance to try savory squash soups, but I love carrot soup and soup in general, so I would probably like it.

Only Cathleen doesn't like cucumbers.
Simon and I love courgettes (zucchini) but no one else does. My favourite is to sauté with onions
Melons are popular with everyone - honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon...
Pumpkin - everyone loves in pumpkin muffins and pumpkin gingerbread. Annabelle doesn't like pumpkin pie (but she doesn't like pie). Pumpkin soup was not a hit.
Butternut squash - the girls don't like it, DH, Simon and I like it with apples
I don't think we've ever had acorn squash. Spaghetti squash wasn't a big hit

Love it! Our favorite is Delicata. No need to peel, just scoop out the seeds and sauté in butter. Plus it's the perfect size for feeding two people. Delicious stuff!
Only one I haven't been a fan of was acorn. Texture wasn't to my liking and it's always cooked with sugar which I i try not to eat in general let alone on my veg.
And yellow summer squash but only because I always seem to overlook it maybe when sautéing with zucchini. I've like it at restaurants.

I love butternut pumpkin/squash. Don't mind zucchini or spaghetti squash, but my family, not so much... Well one will have it, the other two haven't even tried it.

I love all kinds of squash. I've been slowly bringing DH around over the past several years - he will now eat sauteed zucchini or roasted butternut or acorn squash. My kids still won't eat any of those things.

I make great stewed savoury pumpkin (Japanese) and it is amazing. I am going to need that recipe! I love squash, my DH does not. I bought a butternut and spaghetti yesterday to make for my lunches.

Squash is and always has been my favourite vegetable. We order a box of organic vegetables every week and they have a lot of very cool squah varieties. Whenever I'm making something on the bbq, I'll throw a whole one on.

We love squash here. We adore roasted butternut and spaghetti squash is my go to replacement for pasta.
But neither of us are melon lovers.

I've been on a big butternut squash soup jag. In fact, I'm getting ready to put some in the oven to roast for soup tonight.

We eat squash but not often. I like butternut squash in soups and I love to roast squash of any variety. Watermelon is my all time favorite fruit in the summer. Ripe, red, juicy and with salt!

I like squash - I've liked it every way I've tried it - but my husband doesn't. So I just make a small portion of whatever for me. It's very nutritious and takes lots of different flavors well.

I eat all of those things, or at least I'm trying them all these days. Growing up we ate a ton of watermelon, but I never tried zucchini or okra or any type of squash. Just not something my mom ever served even once in my life, so then we were in the south and these things were on the menu and I didn't try them because I 'didn't like them.' So I'm actually really proud of myself for teaching myself how to cook and therefore TRYING these things and find finding that I actually like them! I've found that I love Zucchini made with my veggeti into spaghetti, butternut squash sauteed with olive oil and onions, grilled squash & zucchini, fried okra (which I don't cook myself b/c I don't fry anything at home), spaghetti squash boats, etc. But these are all things I've tried for the first time since I've been in my 30s. It's a whole new world. I think baked Acorn squash is next on my list to try.

WAIT... Is watermelon in the squash family? And cucumber too? Because I've always said that watermelon tastes like cucumber... And people have told me I was crazy. I agree that watermelon sometimes tastes a bit like cucumber, especially the parts close to the rind. I love all kinds of squash but only like it savory (with the exception of pumpkin pie). I love squash soup and I make a vegetarian burrito filling with zucchini that my family loves. The rest of the family likes it too.

We eat all of those things. We have stuffed zucchini boats, spaghetti using spaghetti squash as noodles, butternut squash soup, creamy zucchini basil soup, the squash casserole M in Carolina mentioned above - all of it. My mom told me that whenever the extended family gathers at her house, my family is often the one that actually eats the many fruits and veggies put out.

If squash was nutritionally complete I would be happy eating nothing but squash for meals! I love spaghetti squash with sauce and meatballs or with thai chicken, I love butternut squash roasted, souped or on a grilled cheese sandwich with carmelized onions ( recipe by the sandwich king on food network ), I love acorn squash roasted with a bit of butter or maple syrup or stuffed with ground turkey and rice and allspice seasoning, I love summer squash in all its colors just about any way it can be served. My husband likes squash too, but doesn't want it with every meal (I do, but I try to only cook it twice a week for his benefit), my kids like summer squash and acorn squash, but they are more of fruit eaters, apples being their favorite. We all like watermelon, including one of our cats, and cucumbers. Yeah for squash!!!
