I get the feeling that the board could use a "good things" thread, so here it is. Please share things that have brought a smile to your face recently! For me, it has to be my trip to NYC a couple of weeks ago. While I have gotten away over the summer and early fall, this was my first time on a plane since 12/19. First time back in NYC in nearly THREE YEARS (I usually go 2-4 times a year). I got to travel with a fairly new friend (we had loads of fun), AND I got to spend time with my son and his partner (which is 100% bliss in my world). Saw 4 shows (Hadestown, Six, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Lehman Trilogy) and all were fantastic! If you're going to NYC soon I highly recommend them all, but Mockingbrd was my absolute favorite. Lots of good dining out, and sat 2 tables from Celia Keenan Bolger, and 3 tables away from THE Patti Lupone one late evening. It was the perfect fall getaway! Here's iphone photo I took on a walk through Central Park before Tea at The Plaza So, who's next and what is happy in your life?

I’ve been shuttling back and forth between SF and Seattle twice a week all fall. It sounds like a lot, but honestly, it has saved my sanity. Last year, I was on, 24/7 — I worked all day at home, supervised the kids, had to do everything around the house while I was there. I was fried. No, I do all of my work while I am in SF, and when I come home, I can just be a parent.
This obviously is not a permanent solution — and my university gig in SF is only a year — but I have really recalibrated my relationship with my job, and I am so much better for it (as is my family).

My high school class didn't have a 30 year reunion in 2019 because we were going to combine with the class a year behind us and have one in 2020 ... so that didn't work out very well! (For clarity, I come from a small town and there were 28 people in my grad class. We've lost two in the last few years, so it really isn't a huge group of people!) One of my classmates is now the principal at our old high school, and he decided that we needed a reunion/joint 50th birthday party held this past weekend. At first, I wasn't super thrilled about going, but I did it anyway. I had the best time, and it was so nice to see everyone again--some for the first time since June '89. We've all grown up to be good adults, and I think we agree that our town and our school were great places to come from. So, such a wonderful weekend came out of one that I was considering avoiding

Well, I found out on Thanksgiving eve that oldest DD & SIL are expecting their first. DH & I actually knew a few weeks ago but were sworn to secrecy since she's had 3 losses and wanted to wait until she was further along to share with all family. So the T-giving eve news was that she got the all-clear from doctor that things are progressing well and that their news could be shared.
DS, DH, & I are visiting my Dad so I had the joy of watching his face light up with a smile when she called and told him the news that he was going to have a great grandchild!

I just had a weekend with most of my family and it was so awesome. We are spread out across the country and everyone except my parents and I work full time so we take what we can when it comes to visits. We can't count on getting together for holidays - inlaws, distance, weather and jobs - so we make any gathering a celebration and it's truly so much more fun just enjoying one another's company without the added stress of holiday merry-making. Also, it is finally snowing for the first time this year - it's not staying on the ground yet but there are flakes!!! In case it isn't obvious, I love winter!!

MichyM We go to NYC next Tuesday -- I'd love to hear your recommendation for dining! We are seeing: Mockingbird, Moulin Rouge, Chicago and Hadestown (I also have American Utopia and Girl from the North Country on my list in case sightseeing is fulfilled!)

Our baby girl (23, so not actually a baby) will be home for Christmas! It's just the 4 of us but we always have fun and I see some awesome game nights in our future. I'm sad her SO won't be here with us but he takes extra shifts on the holidays for the money and so his co-workers can be with their kids. My little nest will be full!!!

The photo is stunning, it looks like such a beautiful day.
The thing that brought a smile today was using a photo of one of the robins in our garden that we took yesterday morning and making it the centre of Christmas cards to be printed for this year.

I got my Christmas cards ordered early this year, they arrived today and look great! I splurged on a design with foil lettering and it really pops against all those brown tabby pictures.

That photo is amazing. My happy today was looking at the poinsettia plant my MIL gifted me yesterday. We had a really nice Thanksgiving - short but sweet. Today I am happy to be crafting a bit and playing with paper with Christmas movies in the background.

We had a quick casual drink with a couple of friends tonight and ended up planning to have NYE together. We’ll have them to our house so we can still look after our grandson if we’re asked to and we’ll share the food prep etc. It’ll be chilled and fun 😁

MichyM We go to NYC next Tuesday -- I'd love to hear your recommendation for dining! We are seeing: Mockingbird, Moulin Rouge, Chicago and Hadestown (I also have American Utopia and Girl from the North Country on my list in case sightseeing is fulfilled!) Ohhhh, I hope you have a fabulous time! I’ve already booked theatre tix and hotel for early April. Far and away my favorite meal this trip was at Don Angie in the West Village. You may have to jump through some hoops to get a table this close to your trip, but if you can reserve one of their “cabins” I’d highly recommend it. It is an elevated outdoor experience - each party is in a private, enclosed space, you control climate, lighting, and can even play music from your phone quietly. The drinks, food, and wine were outstanding and the service was perfect with no pretentiousness. Chrysanthemum salad, I mean really?!? I’m not a true foodie and never would have ordered it if I hadn’t heard that it was delicious. IT WAS. As was everything else (we shared). Meme in Hell’s Kitchen was a very good meal, and I‘d go back in a heartbeat, so many delicious things on their menu! A restaurant called Hell’s Kitchen. I’ve been stopping by that place for years solely because of the brussel sprouts tacos (i know, but they really are amazing) and margaritas. It’s casual, relaxed and fun! Had lunch at Haru. Solid sushi near theaters. They have several very filling lunch bento options too. Very good pizza at The Marshall in Hell’s Kitchen. Dante in the West Village for midday drinks and a cheese plate on a Sunday which morphed into dinner there. Comfy and nice, especially in a booth. Joseph Leonard (been here several times over the years and never disappoints) in the Village. After show bite and wine at Bar Centrale. Very very good, again, this is one you may have to jump through a couple of hoops to get a late night (great for people watching) reservation. We did Tea at The Plaza, which was fun (it was more something my friend wanted to do). That said even with understanding staffing issues due to the pandemic, the service was seriously lacking. But…seeing the Plaza all dolled up for the holidays may be worth it. In the past, during the holidays, without a reservation for the hotel or one of the restaurants, *riff-raff* off the streets are not allowed in, even to the lobby. if you haven’t already, download the NYC COVID SAFE app. It makes checking into places super easy, and I’ve been using around Seattle since I got back and a couple of restaurant hosts here have mentioned how easy it is, so I’m going to continue using it here. I’ll be interested to hear about your trip, and what you think of Mockingbird when you return! If you’re able to fit it in last minute, The Lehman Trilogy was a unique theater-going experience, and the acting sublime.

My good news is really someone else's. The owner of the knitting shop where I regularly go to knitting group has been wanting to sell for years. She had finally decided if she could not sell, she would close at the end of this year. Fortunately she found a buyer and the shop changes hands next week. She has really built a community with this business. There are about 40 of us that drift in and out of the various knitting groups with about 12-15 in my group. I would have really missed these women so I'm glad we still have a place to get together. Plus it is a very good shop with a great selection.

I spent the afternoon at my sister’s making a Shirley temple cake with my niece. We love baking together and both my niece and nephew love getting Shirley temples on special occasions. It had to happen. We had fun making the cake. I got all caught up on things she’s up to. 😍 As a bonus, the cake came out really good.
Aaaand, next weekend we’re going to family resort in PA with my sister and her family and another family. There will be 9 of all together. We went a couple of years ago and had a blast. I can’t wait!! 😁

My black Friday shopping resulted in one in person purchase. And it was for me. I haven't played in nearly 13 years. And I spent my entire evening tonight just playing and playing. Brought me so much joy.

MichyM, you had me a Patti Lupone. How I wish I could go to Broadway right now. Dh just pulled down a huge, ugly light box from our kitchen ceiling. By the end of the weekend I will have a kitchen full of canned lighting. My favorite area in the house will be so much nicer and the lighting will be perfect when I'm cooking and baking. He enjoys doing this stuff and I reap the rewards. Thanksgiving is over. My least favorite time of the year, becomes my favorite time of the year as soon as TG is behind me. Now it's time for festivity and frolic.

Gorgeous pic!
We’re in NYC this week and I got to knock the Thanksgiving parade off my bucket list yesterday! I was afraid it would be cold and crowded and miserable, but the weather was better than usual. We stayed right along the route, so we just walked downstairs around 6:00 am and got curbside seats. Just had to entertain ourselves for a few hours! I’m so glad I finally got to see it in person. I felt like a kid!
So far we’ve seen the Rockettes, Fairycakes (on closing night), little Shop of Horrors, Cone from Away, and Approval Junkie with Faith Salie. (Fairycakes had Mo Rocca, so we saw two Wait Wait regulars—lol). I can’t believe I waited so long to see Come From Away. It was incredible.

My parents are both recovered from Covid breakthrough cases, so we were able to take DD and DH's brother up north to their house for Thanksgiving. I brought the meal, premade from Lunds & Byerly's, so easy cooking and clean up. We had a lovely day.

Happy for everyone’s good stuff! I can’t tag on my tablet, but I’ll mention two in particular:
Especially happy for Michy’s trip to NY. I was planning to spend Thanksgiving in DC w/family but cancelled due to a number of reasons. Which makes me look forward to my annual NY trip in June even more. Spent this year’s trip on LI Sound w/my sisters, which was great, but missed our usual day in the city, hoping for that this year. Sounds like you had the perfect visit, topped off by a Patti L. sighting!
Glad to see a new bass in jeremysgirl’s hands! Play on, girl!
My happy thing is that my dear friend who has MS was able to come back home after almost a year in a rehab/nursing home, and felt well enough that she and her Dh had Thanksgiving dinner with us. So happy for her!
