I can't even imagine being that fearful that I have to have every member of my family carrying a gun. Iβve been thinking that lately as well. Between the Rittenhouse Trial and that of the mirderers of Ahmaud Arbery, I think that people who think they need to have guns to protect themselves come across as tough but deep down they are really fearful and insecure. I knew a guy once that lost his ability to carry a gun due to an incident that he had. He was so worried and said that he didnβt feel comfortable in stores because he had no way to protect himself. I was like, uh, most of us do that every day just fine.

I don't get why these people don't take a self defense course. Maybe if the classes were encouraged for men and women, maybe less men would feel the need to carry a gun?

Not much difference from some of my idiotic family members who thinks itβs funny having their young children posing with guns. So stupid.

Iβd find this gross at any time but posting something like this just days after (yet another) school shooting is especially repugnant. Repugnant and completely tone deaf. But you know, this is βMurica! 2A all the way!

I can't imagine what it does to young minds to have shooting survival drills as part of their education.

That is ridiculous on so many levels. Tone deaf, irresponsible and ignorant. We lived in a messed up country.

I guess that this is what passes for humor in the gun nut set. People like this are probably best avoided if at all possible. Theyβre uncouth, not very bright, and want everyone to know that THEY LOVE GUNS. I just want to add that Rep. Massie has multiple degrees from MIT. He's a brilliant electrical engineer who won multiple prizes while there. He's very bright and clearly very messed up. I knew a lot of people at MIT like that.

I loved this response:
Democratic U.S. Representative John Yarmuth, who chairs the U.S. House of Representatives Budget Committee, condemned his fellow Kentuckian's post.
"Iβm old enough to remember Republicans screaming that it was insensitive to try to protect people from gun violence after a tragedy," Yarmuth wrote on Twitter, apparently referring to calls for gun control laws.
"I promise not everyone in Kentucky is an insensitive asshole," he added.

Of course, I have never met him or his family, but it isnβt that uncommon for that to happen. I would guess in this situation it is more about being a gun nut.

Also very telling just how wrong the current gun culture is.

Also very telling just how wrong the current gun culture is. That's the point I was trying to make - there should never be a need to put children through this in a first world, civilized country. The whole point of a fire drill is to know how to get out of a possible burning building in a non panic orderly fashion. The whole point of the Alice drill isn't how to get out of that situation but seems to be how to save yourself from getting shot and killed. I really can't get my head round educating children on how to do that when they are in school, of all places.

These were in case of a bomb attack from I guess Russia at the time. These drills eventually morphed into earthquake drills. The drills always scared me. I worried about being separated from my family if an attack happened. It is sad that kids today have such a real and closer threat to worry about in school.

My company does once a year active shooter in the workplace training. Even though Iβm work at home i am still required to take them. The thinking is we might face active shooter situations outside of work too, and training has saved lives in the past. Such is the country we live in. π

I hate that we do these drills. Fortunately ours are βjustβ lockdown drills at the elementary level. When I taught in private school, I had to go to active shooter training that was both stupid and traumatizing, and only served to highlight what sitting ducks we all are because of this countryβs sick obsession with guns.
My general anxiety was pretty poorly controlled at that time and I asked to be excused from the training, but it wasnβt allowed. I had a panic attack halfway through and excused myself. One of the many reasons I left that awful school.
I hate these gun loving fuckers who hold our country hostage. Hate is not too strong a word.
ETA: I grew up next to Strategic Air Command and spent my formative years doing nuclear bomb drills hiding under my desk. Because that was going to be effective when Russia planted a bomb a mile from my school. That feeling of terrified helplessness never leaves you, and weβre imparting the same trauma to our kids so Bubba can own his personal collection of prosthetic penises and feel like a big man.
