My husband went through his clothes and got rid of three full bags to the local charity. In my mind this is the equivalent of me getting rid of a room full of items so this is a MAJOR WIN! He also went through some old collector cards and we sold a few doubles or unwanted ones on eBay so we made a little cash too. We also decluttered some kids toys and donated a heap to the local home school mums for them to take (like a free garage sale) which has given us even more space. Yay! I’m another long time lurker/stalker on this thread and just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the inspiration Welcome! Wow you got a lot out of there, great job! DH is currently going through his cards, but when he called local shops they basically wished him good luck. I’ll have him check out eBay. Otherwise, he is going to try and sell them in bulk groupings on Marketplace. It’s 3 file boxes since we have had since we moved in (but never made it out of the garage mikklynn ), and they will be gone one way or another in 3 weeks. Super excited about that.

The key to us selling any of them was to list batches of common items at $1. Any that were above that price are still with us, but we are happy to hold onto them/store them until they do sell. I just thought about selling them more as them going to someone who wanted them to complete their set rather than as a money making exercise or a retirement fund which helped. We kept a few of the full sets and super rare items for now. Good luck with having so many to sell!

Thanks lg. So many does not equal quality These are cards he collected as a kid in the late 80s. I appreciate the tip. Would you mind asking him how many consisted of a good size batch for your him please? And were his batches of teams or specific players?

It's nice to hear that these threads have been helpful, even to those who are just lurking. Happy that you decided to join us. I hope we see more of you! Getting a DH to go through a closet AND purge is definitely a major win! Also, it sounds like the toys you donated will have a good home. That's always key for me, trying to keep things out of the landfills and get them to people of want and can use them. Sounds like you are making good headway!

Just bought about 60 books at a yard sale. At least they came with a bookshelf this time.
I have doctor's appointments next four days so hopefully I can work on it between the appointments

so today I got rid of dusty junk sitting on top of my closet on a shelf I can't reach or see. I also went through old bills and got two bags to recycling and have a big box to take to shredding..
I keep saying every thing counts!!

Would you mind asking him how many consisted of a good size batch for your him please? And were his batches of teams or specific players? We sold some as random batches of what we had (8-10 cards from a particular series or type as I’d obviously bought a single pack when I was little, and as I had no interest in them/bought them for the bubble gum they were still in great condition!), some we listed as teams if we had a complete or almost complete set (again 8-10 per batch), and the rest we just did based on what was already listed by other sellers. If there are four team sets on eBay in mint condition, and we have a team set that is chewed on or that I creased, the only way they’ll sell is if we add more to the set or have them at a super low prices… so I tried to compare to the market and make them impossible for the bargain hunter to resist 😁 I also made sure to separate out any rarer misprints or reprinted cards as these ones we will list separately. I found lists online of what to look for, and again prices from online shops, to see what the card may be worth for those listings.

dewryce - Since you have so many cards I want to give you a heads up about selling online (eBay, etc) now. Beginning this year, if you have sales of $600+, you will receive a 1099 and be required to report it on your Federal tax return. The prior threshold was $20,000. Taxes will only be on profit, so you need to keep track of original costs so that you can get that number down on your tax return. Do some research to find out how to reduce the profit number. It will be easier if you make those notes as you sell items, rather than waiting until 2023 and scrambling around! This change is a big reason I am no longer selling on eBay (as well as many others). I may list a few things, but will definitely cap it below the $600 mark. The paperwork isn't worth the hassle for me personally. That will really depend on each person and their own tax situation.

We got some shelves for my DH’s workout area of the garage and put them together yesterday afternoon. It made a HUGE difference. We’ve already really pared down our belongings so there was only 1 item he chose to donate, his 3rd bike helmet. But later he realized he could keep it upstairs for when we need to take cover for tornados, and grab it to put on on our way downstairs. He takes blood thinners so any hard hit to the head is especially bad news.
Then we straightened the rest of the garage so that felt really good.

The decluttering just got real! Set a target start date for the kitchen work of May 31. That gives me just over 2 weeks to get it in high gear. Today I've already taken photos of the weaving loom, bench and supplies. Will work on a listing for them tonight. Currently going around the house to make sure I have all the negatives, camcorder tapes and slides together. Need to do a count so I can submit a total to a local company who scans all that. They have the equipment and time that I don't have. Fingers crossed it doesn't cost a second mortgage! Until the movers get here to pack and take to it all to storage I will be going through the guest room and donating as much as possible. Going to be a busy couple of weeks.

Are you/they having to move the whole house or just certain rooms? It’s going to be a crazy couple of weeks but just think what it’ll feel like to get all of that completed. If you’re anything like me it’s been on your list for a while.

I’m in australia so im not sure we have the same rule so thanks for the USA update 😁 and there is no way any of my listings will ever make $600 even combined for a whole year, I’m going more along the lines of keeping good/useable items out of landfill or letting someone find a bargain rather than recouping money. The money I spent on these things is WAY GONE 😂

You were always 'required' to report any income which included any sales on eBay or other platforms no matter how small. The difference is the amount now at which those sites must generate a 1099 for you. It has been confusing for many small sellers who thought the previous reporting amount let them off the hook as long as they were below it.

Today was a BIG declutter. I cleaned out my main closet. I still have some shoes to get rid of on a shelf but the floor is clear, which was my primary goal. In February 2020 I ordered a new set of luggage for a trip I was taking that April. We all know how that turned out. So this brand new luggage has been covered hanging out in my living room since then. I looked up today and was like enough. If I cleaned out my closet I could move the luggage. Hours later it’s done and I feel SO ACCOMPLISHED. I still have to finish my seasonal clothes switch which means more work in the same closet but it felt good to get such a big project done.

I moved on Thursday. OMG. I thought I purged a ton of stuff, but I still have so much. I'm taking a hard look at everything I unpack.
I have a small walk-in pantry that I have to organize. I thought the new kitchen had about the same number of cabinets as my old house, but I am struggling to get all my kitchen stuff put away. Part of the problem is the top drawers are not very deep, from bottom to top. Some things are not fitting in the drawers.

I did a deep purge when I packed but still got rid of more as I unpacked - good luck with the unpacking I went through my Christmas scrapbook drawer last night (early this morning - I couldn't sleep) and organised it all and pulled out a bunch of stuff for donation and tossed some stuff as well.

The past 4 months have been really hard. Fibro, vertigo, migraines…they have all kicked my ass. This past week is the first of feeling marginally better. Ended up tossing some out-dated breakfast cereal before work one morning.
Right now, I just want to vacuum my house. DH’s new job has him working from 5 pm to 5 am. Woke this morning with plenty of energy, but needed to keep quiet so he could sleep. Gah! So, cleaned up the kitchen, ran the dishwasher, and have laundry in process. It’s something.

I cleaned/sorted/trashed/organized a small shelf in the hutch that I use as a place to empty my pockets, put important mail, etc.
IDK why, but it gives me so much anxiety to do this task.
I feel better that it's finished, and I condensed my To-Do lists all onto one sheet of paper.

I'm at our lake house this weekend and I spent about two hours this morning decluttering the kitchen, living room and dining room. I didn't realize how cluttered it was beginning to look. Almost everyone who comes to visit, brings some sort of small decorative item as a gift. It's hard for me to get rid of things people have gifted me, but I keep telling myself "They won't even notice the "Life is better at the Lake" sign they gave me five years' ago is missing."

I figured this would happen - I've filled 2 boxes with stuff to donate. Most of it is decorative type items that I realized do not work in my new house.
I have so many things going on that I feel like I am taking forever to get unpacked. I sure miss my huge laundry room!

Youngest kiddo is home from college along with all his stuff LOL. We have a return to school in August pile in the basement. He has been going through his bedroom closet and purged a good amount. I really need to make a goodwill drop off sometime soon. It's an hour away with limited hours so can be a struggle to get there.

I think I’ve already decluttered more these past few weeks than I have in my entire life! Right as we were getting ready to do some remodeling of our home and replace most of our carpet on our main floor with LVP we had a water leak and now we are replacing flooring in most of our basement too. I’m embarrassed of how the unfinished portion of the basement looked and even I cannot believe how much ‘junk’ was down there. So we’ve been cleaning out the garage to get ready to have our kitchen cabinet doors painted out there. And we’ve been cleaning out the unfinished part of the basement to be able to move some things over there when we put in the new carpet. At least 4 trips to Goodwill and 2 trips to the dump, and we are not done yet. We have made so much progress though!
I also have a pile of stuff I’m gonna try to sell on Facebook Marketplace. I put up my first listing…a lot of graduation party decor as that time is NOW and I got $25 and one less box of stuff.
It’s gonna feel good to get all this stuff done!
