@mikklyn - well done!
speaking of trash cans...we apparently have inadvertently decluttered one. Dh put the bin out at the old house before he went on his business trip and forgot to stop by and bring it in. When he went over there after he came back...no trash can. He's not right pleased as they are expensive and this was a fairly new and quite nice one (big, wheeled, attached lid) but...

So much progress this week for everyone! I've been reading all the replies, start to make a reply then get distracted. I've been making progress over here as well, some days more than others. Cleared out the shelf in the living room cabinets that holds all the photography equipment. All the camera SD cards are on my desk and I am verifying that they are all on my computer and backed up. After looking at it all and talking with DH, I have decided to sell both my film and DSLR camera and lens. The store where I bought the DSLR buys and sells used equipment, just fill out a form on their website listing what you have and they will have an offer to you in 24-48 hours. The cameras are too heavy for me (arthritis in hands) and I've found it much easier to travel with an iPhone Pro, rather than a camera bag. It was fun when I did that type of photography, but time marches on!
Added to the donation box this week: puzzle I hated, cords & cables that belong to nothing we own, 3 new shoe bags that came with shoes, duplicate stapler and box of push pins, new package of Avery shipping labels (the big half sheet ones), 3 of those zip up covers you get with jackets never used in 12 years, 3 point & shoot cameras along with all cables and books, and 2 digital photography books.
DH has continued to lose weight, so he updated all his workout clothes. This weekend I helped him go through all the old stuff and he donated about 20 items (all in good condition).
Goals for this week are to submit the photo equipment for a quote, then list the weaving loom for sale with the local handweaver's guild.

Everyone has been making great progress. Even though I'm not currently decluttering, or making much progress on house projects, I'm cheering you all on.

Everyone has been making great progress. Even though I'm not currently decluttering, or making much progress on house projects, I'm cheering you all on. The whole process goes in waves doesn't it? Sometimes great progress is made, then the next phase it's good if just a few things get tossed from the junk drawer! The new thread storage bin to hold my embroidery machine threads arrived yesterday. So today I will organize the rest of my spools and free up drawer space. Little steps add up to big progress! Waiting on the backdrop stand that I've ordered to arrive (hopefully tomorrow). Once I have that I'll be able to proceed with the project to photograph all the quilts (somewhere between 40 and 50 is my guess). Will order custom labels to sew on the backs of them. Part of this project is to document the family history of quilts. It is also so that I can send photos to my cousins of the ones I would like to re-home. They are all willing to take some (all 3 cousins ), but I needed a way to show them what's up for grabs.

More decluttering here too…. If I want the kitchen remodelled (one day in the distant future 😂) I want to get rid of the stuff I’ve never used or don’t need NOW instead of then.... People have been getting some crazy discounts on eBay as it’s being sold for next to nothing (but easier than holding a garage sale at the moment!) I have purchased a couple of items in some cases to replace what I sold BUT I think it’s important to have what I like so I’ll use it instead of storing what I don’t like (and thus NEVER use). Yellow Tupperware I hate - gone. Clunky huge rolling pin that won’t fit in the cupboard - going etc. Have had a big talk with myself of the difference between “fantasy” me (caters for thousands, constantly entertains) versus real me (sits reading 2peas on phone by herself while craft videos blare on YouTube eating chips from a bag.) Real me doesn’t need 14 serving platters, but she does need a jumbo mug for her coffee 😜

lg I understand the entertaining fantasy. I purged 3 cake stands before I moved. The only items broken during the move were a small pink cake stand and the 2 tiered stand from my parents wedding. I'm kind of bummed about that. There was no saving it. I definitely dont need them!

Mom is in the nursing home and I am in charge of her affairs. This afternoon I FINALLY went through her paperwork. I tossed what needed tossing and reorganized what needed to be kept. It's crazy and sad how your whole life can be condensed into a portable file box. I had put off this project for months and it feels good to have it done.
A few days ago my MIL commented that when she dies her kids are probably going to back up a truck and toss all her things because nobody wants other people's stuff anymore - they just want new. I reminded her that her kids are all adults and have houses filled with their own stuff (aka crap). And yeah most of MIL's things will be donated or tossed. Isn't that the reality for all of us?

Having to deal with the belongings of all our parents really opened our eyes to just how much stuff we had - and the fact that most of it will be a burden for DD to deal with. That was the point we really kicked it into high gear and started getting rid of stuff.

The entertaining thing is huge we have stuff for entertaining and we really don’t use and need to purge most of it. We inherited a ton of glassware from my my grandmother which we use some and then from my husband’s grandmother that we really don’t use. He doesn’t want to purge and it has a home but when we move (no plans to do so soon) it’s not going with us. It’s in our China cabinet snd a couple of end table with storage. I need to purge some entertaining stuff there are a few things we could use but I haven’t found any I like but when I do I will need to purge something else for it to fit. Next Christmas I need to purge sone holiday items and then shuffle stuff around. I thought we had purged a few bulky items snd found them recently but they are behind other things. Next year they go. We change things up every year but haven’t put a few things out in at least 10 years and others just don’t work well in this house so they should go especially since they are bulky.

I did a massive purge of my mismatched pink rose china before I moved. I broke one plate unpacking and tossed 2 bowls that had flaws in the design. I have so much space in my buffet!

Oh my gosh DH was with me yesterday while I was dropping off my Goodwill car full of stuff. I was worried he'd say something about what I was donating. I didn't tell him about the china that was given to us by his mother. Fortunately, it was in a box with a lid. I joked that nothing from his bedroom closet or office were being given away. It was a quick drop off process so DH didn't really have time to look anything over. We did have a good conversation about stuff and how it's ok to not keep things just because________(fill in the blank) and how it's been so overwhelming helping family members move.

we desperately need to do a donations run - boxes are piling up in the garage. Maybe this coming weekend.
I mailed off a dozen photos to a Girl Scout museum and a couple of others to individual people. Added one photo album and two photo binders (the inside pages were tossed but the binders are still usable) into the donation pile after emptying them.
But my focus has been on labelling and identifying. I'm just about done with 1972 - 200 photos are in sleeves with identifying labels on the sleeves (who, what, when, why and the source) and more sleeves come in tomorrow so I can finish that. They've all been digitised and the files labelled and uploaded to Google Drive (family sharing) and backed on with Carbonite. Next up will be making a photo book so the pictures are easily viewed. Wish me luck with that - I find the process a bit overwhelming

We have notice on one 2x10 flea market booth, will move out by the end of the month. We put on a sale to hopefully clear stuff out. We will have some large furniture pieces that I don't know what we will do with.
I do have a large donation to go to the local teaching art gallery. I have been trying to take recycling off before it gets too piled up.

I gave my old sofa and a dresser to my sister's niece to take to her college apartment. YAY! That was a win for both of us.

I gave my old sofa and a dresser to my sister's niece to take to her college apartment. YAY! That was a win for both of us.Agree, as college students we loved it when someone gave us furniture, total score! . Yellow Tupperware I hate - gone. Clunky huge rolling pin that won’t fit in the cupboard - going etc. Have had a big talk with myself of the difference between “fantasy” me (caters for thousands, constantly entertains) versus real me (sits reading 2peas on phone by herself while craft videos blare on YouTube eating chips from a bag.) Real me doesn’t need 14 serving platters, but she does need a jumbo mug for her coffee 😜 Figuring this out was huge for me in my ongoing decluttering process. It was a hard realization to come to, but so freeing once I admitted I was never going to be a person who [insert whatever here]. It was the same with crafting projects. Once I told myself it was okay to not finish them, it was such a huge weight off of my shoulders as I let the ones I was no longer in love with go. Good luck with your quilting destash **GypsyGirl** ! I don’t remember if I mentioned this but our baby things destash has come to a stop for the time being. Just reorganizing them so we could use part of the closet was very difficult so we paused where we were and will get back to it after he has time to process it. Our permanent donation box is getting filled more quickly these days, so that makes me happy. It’s silly but I love getting rid of things and creating more white space in our home so when I can’t find anything to declutter it’s a bit of a bummer for me. I don’t know if we are being more ruthless these days or if we just happen to be coming across things we no longer want, but I will take it! We’re helping my mom & brother go through their house, and my mom through my Grandad’s house which she inherited, and as y’all said, that’s a huge motivator for us. So much stuff, unorganized stuff at that! For our belongings/projects, this week I’m spending most of my time on getting some photos into albums, fixing Christmas items, and paperwork. I am finding it hard to close a couple kitchen drawers so we’ll go through them and hopefully find some items we don’t use.

Geez I just pulled out 9 cookbooks to donate and tossed a bunch of random printed recipes. I swear my cookbook cabinet is NOT THAT BIG and I just went through it and decluttered this past winter.

I’m convinced some items multiply when we’re not looking. There is no way I purchased as much scrapbooking paper as is currently in my craft room.

My husband and son helped Dad to clean out a fair amount of stuff from Mom’s bedroom. Not sure Dad was ready, but he had a visitor who needed a place to stay.
As part of the clean out, my son claimed the ugliest lamp. Tried to get Mom to get rid of it in the last spring clean of her bedroom. She thought it was ugly as well. But, there was history to it that I can’t remember. It is still at Dad’s house. I hope my son forgets it exists.

(((((Hugs)))) it's hard I got another 200 photo sleeves delivered today so I'm filling them and labelling them. Finished reading a book two nights ago - passing it along to DD22 (it won't actually leave my house for a month - dh will bring it when he visits her for the 4th). DH was talking about doing a dump run on Saturday (it's open on one Saturday/month) with a broken futon, broken bookcase, and hopefully some more stuff as well. I'm hoping we can fit in a donation run also and clear those boxes out of the garage.

Oh, I forgot to share some exciting news! There is one item I thought I “decluttered” back around 1995 that I have regretted ever since. Cleaning out my now husband’s bedroom I came across a receipt with his name and Cal Ripken Jr’s autograph. Well, we haven’t been able to find it for years. I could remember picking it up but I was afraid I tossed it thinking it was a joke (because who gets him to sign a receipt AND then keeps it tossed wherever around their room?). He has been fabulous, just amazing about it and even turned it into a joke between us, but I have felt horrible since we discovered it missing. Fast forward to this past week, where he is still going through his baseball cards…and there it is. I had placed it in a protective box along with some cards he’d gotten signed.

Little bits of progress. During summer break I go into the office one morning a week. I’ve tossed a large garbage bag full of stuff each of the times I’ve gone in. On the home front I’ve started digging out my office/scrap room. So far I decluttered and reorganized all my embellishments, cards, cardmaking stuff, and office supplies. I also found the top of my desk. Today I cleaned out the fridge and the pantry got an overhaul to make certain things more accessible for DS. Slowly working my way through Mount Laundry.
All the clothes we’ve purged from our closets over the past year are laying in piles on our spare bedroom floor. Next week a nearby home for teen mom’s is having a clothing drive for a fundraiser so I’ll be bagging all the clothes up and finally getting them out of here.

It must be a thing for the kids to latch on to the ugliest thing of their grandparents. When my MIL passed and FIL went into the VA home, we cleared some of the furniture out and things to bring home. DD was 11 and insisted on having a cross stitch that MIL made. Wait for this....it is a saying that says "If you Sprinkle when you Tinkle, Please be Neat and Wipe the Seat!" Even better? MIL had it framed in an old wooden toilet seat ring! It was hanging in her bathroom for years! That thing has been hidden away for years in my house. Why do I keep it? Because hopefully someday she will get married. There will be a bridal shower - and I already have the perfect gift for her!

**GypsyGirl** - perfect! I organised the placemat and napkin drawers and tossed a couple of placemats that were getting ragged. Also the towel and dishrag drawers and my dresser drawers - tossed a couple of bras and a pair of socks; added two sleep shorts to donation My sister and her husband are coming to visit in six weeksb - they are minimalists with a ton of energy and they keep their (no pets, no kids, just two fulltime working adults) house spotless. I have six cats, a teen, and a husband who is a packrat and I lack that ton of energy. So six weeks to whip my place into shape and still not have it look as good as theirs.
