Yes, I knew pennysylvanis was an outlier, I’d forgotten she was in PA, though Why is PAs state public health system so disjointed? Starved of funding by our Republican legislature. That’s incredibly sad, but horribly predictable, I guess. 😞

At this point I think anyone with symptoms should just assume they have it and quarantine. I wouldn’t need or seek out a test as yes, they are difficult to get anyway. But I was testing because I had a documented exposure. Not because I had symptoms. I need to know if it is ok for me to go into my office to teach online . Document exposure wouldn't get you a test around here...heck even symptoms with documented exposure won't necessarily get you a test here either. We're a highly vaccinated state, but hospitals and urgent cares are still overwhelmed with it. Like someone already mentioned appts are way out, cancelled etc. ds is tested every week at work on Tuesday, the results come in sometime on Wednesday. Last Tuesdays have not come back yet. Just assumed that they're too overwhelmed to process them all?! It's not the only instance i've heard of this happening either.

We had to test twice in December for travel. Tests done through CVS and took 30-40 hours for results.
My son tested on Thursday to return to college Saturday afternoon. Didn't get his results until 10:00 am this morning (Sunday).
Our area (North Texas) must be slammed right now with testing. We were able to find an at home test very easily though so he could return yesterday.

Test kits sell out here quickly.
The free testing is by appointment and lines are long!

Yes, it is extremely difficult where I live. Someone posts something like "Walgreens on center street has tests" and within 5 minutes someone else is posting they're all sold out.
We were fortunate because a friend works in a nursing home and they had too many tests that will expire in March so she gave me a box of them.

So you got a test in 2 days and the results back in a day and a half. That sounds normal to me. I would have expected it to drag out much longer as much demand as there is.

My daughter and my ex are in the US and finding it impossible to get PCR tests in the 72 hour window to get back to Korea. DD is in Seattle at my moms (I was too until recently) and has changed her flight 3 times now. Results not back. She was able to get an appt at the rapid PCR place at the airport amd will hopefully leave the 12th. Ex no clue, he is in ST Louis and his results did not come back so he missed his flight, there is no airport rapid testing PCR so…no clue how he will get back. Fly to an airport with it maybe then on to Korea.
It’s a mess

And meanwhile in China, they are able to test everyone in a city of 14 million people because they found 20 positive cases! "Tianjin, a major Chinese port city near the capital Beijing, has begun mass-testing its 14 million residents after a cluster of 20 children and adults tested positive for Covid-19, including at least two with the Omicron variant."

In this case google really is your friend. State dept of health websites normally have comprehensive sections on Covid testing and how and when to get one. Not in the state of Pennsylvania. Here is the information provided re. testing: Public testing in Pennsylvania You will see that it provides information for 7 counties. There are 67 counties in our state. It is basically being left up to each county or the free market. If the larger county has a department of health like Allegheny County, you may be in better luck. If you are in a more rural county like where I live, it's Rite Aid or Med Express if you can ever get an appointment. maryland , Allegheny County has contracted with a private company to run sites in different locations across the county every day. That information is on the Health Dept. website and they also share it on their FB page. Mobile and fixed testing sites for the week of January 10Thank you! We got an appt. at a CVS in the North Hills in the morning and we will drive her to school from the appt.

Yes. I was exposed at work on Friday and the soonest I can get a PCR is next Monday. With college students returning to school and their schools requiring testing it's impossible to get an appointment right now.
I am very happy that the community college ds attends is holding drive through testing on campus this week. They have done away with the 3 day rule because it's impossible. Last semester he got a PCR at the beginning of the window and didn't get his results until the 2nd day of classes.
