@bergdorfblonde - my husband had the wooooooorst experience with his prep toward the end. I felt so bad he was so ill.
Fortunately, he just had some erosions that were causing his issues, but it was scary since so many of his symptoms mimicked colon cancer. We were only 25 when he had his done (we'll both be 32 this year). I am so thankful to this day that it wasn't anything serious. And as I remind him, he now has a much better job where he's not working for someone who stresses him out, which I think was a big part of the stress causing his issues (we also eat a lot healthier now, too). (I could go on a loooong diatribe about this, but I'd be here a while.)

I'm doing my prep right now! I went with the pills this time, and so far so good. This will be my 3rd time. Polyps every time...

Ugh, it’s a miserable experience. I see I’m too late for you, but I want to encourage others to make sure and drink their broth and get their electrolytes. My last time out I fainted in the shower morning of procedure, even though I had the recommended drinks. Next time I’ll drink more broth (DH gets it for me from the Neumann Marcos Mariposa restaurant…best I’ve ever had) and probably eat jello too.
I also appreciate you posting, I am really late for my once every 1-2 years colonoscopy. I think I just hit year 3 or 4, which is really dumb of me. So this motivates me to make the appointment!
Will be thinking of you today and hope all goes well.

rymeswithpurple Sorry! It's rare for the prep to really affect people, but it does happen. My stomach issues prevent me from having too much fiber and I end up bloating up and doubled over. I've been going for 20 years because my grandmother had colon cancer. They never found anything in me every time I went (except that they noted my diverticulosis). Hope it all goes smoothly for you today!!

flanz, it's not too late to call your gi and ask for the Sutab pills. So much easier than drinking a gallon of liquid grossness. If you can tolerate big pills you might make the call now. Best wishes for a clear, healthy colon!

Best wishes for a clear, healthy colon! Thanks, friend. I had my colonoscopy yesterday. Hated drinking 16 cups of that stuff but I did it and arrived adequately prepped according to the report. Had one 3cm polyp which was sent to pathology. Procedure itself is interesting and not at all anxiety producing. I AM glad to have it behind me. No pun intended. Now I'm tackling my long list of to-dos before I leave bright and early on Tuesday for an undetermined amount of time. It'll depend on how mum's health is and how much support she and my sister need. i'm thinking 4 weeks minimum but it might be a fair bit longer. Be well everyone!

I did Cologuard last year. Unfortunately,I have such bad anemia that I have to have a twofer(endoscopy and colonoscopy) to check for possible GI bleed. I'm doing dulcolax, Gatorade, Miralax. I've done it before and it was fine. I tend towards diarrhea so I may not even need the entire prep. I've done this one before and it was easy. No way could I drink the salty tasting stuff.
My biggest concern is the lack of potassium I'll have onboard. If my potassium goes too low I WILL have a paralytic attack. I will warn doctors of this, hubby will be there, just hope it doesn't happen during prep. Gah! Can't they find a better way to do this?

I recall them reminding him to eat soft foods after all was said and done... we got to the car, he turned to me, and said, "Wendy's. Now." I'm pretty sure that cheeseburger was gone in 4 bites.

I found that sucking on a lemon slice after drinking the prep helped a lot. It cut the taste from my mouth immediately. I got this tip from the peas and it worked like a charm. But have LOTS of lemon slices ready.

My Cologuard came in the mail today. 3\4 of my grandparents died of colon cancer and I've had loads of aunts uncles and cousins with it. I went in at 50, thanks to the peas I breezed thru it. I was clean as a whistle, and she said I didn't have to come back for 7 years. At my appt a few weeks ago she said I could do the Cologuard, since I was clean last time.

Gee, with your family history I would probably really press to get the colonoscopy. A bit of nuisance for greater peace of mind is priceless.

I was surprised because of my history too, but she said because I was completely clear at my age, which is unusual, that my likelihood of getting cancer was greatly reduced but that my next test would be the full blown. Whispering, I had zero issue with prep, and was so perky going in for my colonoscopy, that they separated me from the others. I wouldn't have care if I had to do a colonoscopy every year.

How awful would it be if you look back later and realize that you should have had it. I hope that is not the case, of course! I am really surprised based on your family history - not one but 3 grandparents! - your doc would let you do just the simpler test. I won't bug you about it anymore but please think about it. We have to be our own strongest advocates if we're able.
