That would deter me, but I also am a rule follower, so there’s that. 😬 In the end, it doesn’t seem a real enough existing consequence to deter the behavior, *if* cases of it are rising. These people who behave like thugs, clearly feel entitled to fly, regardless. It’s not a right to board an airplane. Maybe losing that privilege for some period of time would reinforce that it’s not a right. Most people in my state pay the (granted laughable) fine for not wearing the seatbelt rather than ever change their behavior. Most of these disputes are over wearing a mask. I flew 5 months ago, I can’t even say how many times I had to attest before I even got on the plane, that I would wear a mask properly for the duration of the flight unless I was eating or drinking, and possible consequences for not doing so. I want to say maybe 5 times? Including when I got my actual boarding pass. It’s not like these people were blindsided.

i don't think it's a severe punishment at all. think of the inconvenience it causes to the other passengers when an unruly or non compliant passenger holds up the flight. it could mean hours, cancellation, or returning back to the airport. if i had an urgent matter that i had to fly for and we were held up for some a-hole, i would be livid. i am all for a national no fly list. they can go be a dick on a Greyhound bus.

I am also no. Not forever. Even violent felons get to mingle amongst us after they serve their time. A period of perhaps 5 years , sure Also no to retroactive. I sure don’t want to go about my daily life and get a punishment for something that was a 6 month confinement now and they make it a 5 year crime later. Or even something legal now and made a crime in the future. That would be terrifying and not a door i’d ever want opened No one has said it would be permanent. I am sure it would be a case by case basis and depending on the crime there would be different “sentences”. Something needs to be done. And I can’t think that anyone meant go back and extend a sentence retroactively. And what exactly do you think is legal now on flights that would suddenly be a crime in the future? And why do you think that is what people mean by retroactively? Assault is a crime now. Shouldn’t the people who assaulted flight attendants and other passengers be charged and punished? Also, I think most of know that it won’t be retroactive, it isn’t feasible, but damn it, it should be for the people that assaulted the flight attendants and caused flights to be canceled.

If this happens, I would be surprised if bans were permanent. It doesn’t seem like something that the airlines would go for, but who knows.

There also needs to be a robust appeals process. These lists have a way of accidentally including innocent people. I really really want those people who assaulted flight crew to never be able to fly again, but retroactive law changing is a definite, horrifying no. Hopefully their punishments are already sufficient.

I don’t know, depending on the offense that does seem harsh. I could definitely be on board with like a 2 year ban, but not sure about lifetime.
