I’ve been down for the count all week with a breakthrough case of Covid. I’m going stir-crazy, and the brightest part of my day is planning my next meal (haven’t lost my taste, smell or my appetite!).
I’m thinking tuna salad for lunch, and I’m curious to know how others like it. Pickle relish, onion, celery, egg, etc? What kind of bread, if any? And what kind of canned tuna do you prefer?

I'm on a tuna salad kick and have made it at least once a week for the last month. I start with 3 cans of chunk tuna canned in water (either Costco or TJ's) and add: - chopped celery
- chopped dill pickles
- chopped red onion
- mayonnaise
- Dijon mustard
- brown deli mustard
- fresh dill
- lemon zest
- lemon juice
- salt & pepper
I squeeze lemon juice over the drained tuna first, then chop everything and add it with the mayo & mustards, etc. Taste and adjust as needed.
My favorite way to eat it is in a bowl with chopped Persian cucumbers and rice crackers on the side. DS just toasted some on Naan with feta cheese on top.
Hope you feel better!

Just celery and mayo for most of my life, until I moved to the midwest where they put pickles in freaking everything. But pickle relish is really good tuna. I had no idea! I have a nephew who likes apple cut up in his, so I tried that too. He's right. It's good

I'm a simple tuna salad kinda gal. Tuna, finely chopped egg, finely chopped celery, a little mustard, mayo, salt and pepper. Any kind of bread, really, but I prefer a seedy grain bread. To take it over the top, I like to toast the bread, spread tuna salad on it, put on some cheddar cheese and put it in the oven until the cheese melts.

I made tuna salad yesterday; unfortunately, I had the regular (non-albacore) tuna so it was very wet, despite draining. I like: mayo, mustard, pickle relish (had none...so cut up a pickle), tomato, salt, pepper. I like putting arugula in the sandwich; my bread was a pita. My grandma used to add apple to hers but I didn't want to cut into an apple for the amount I wanted and unfortunately eating apples does not sit well with my stomach.

I vary it, depending upon my mood. Tuna, lite mayo, celery, relish
Or
Tuna, mayo, celery, capers, chopped olives-green or black
Or
Tuna, olive oil, lemon juice, olives and capers

Mine very simple; just tuna, diced egg and may. I serve it as a dip with chips. My fav is usually a jalapeño kettle chip.

Mine sounds like the simplest (or maybe I'm just lazy, LOL) - I only add relish and mayo (usually light, or mayo made with avocado oil). I use only white albacore. As for bread, I prefer it on a seeded/whole grain bread, but really any bread will do as long as it's toasted! Crackers are OK too. Both my DDs like it as a tuna melt, but I don't care for that. ETA: Darcy Collins and janeliz, I hope you both feel better soon!!

Solid white tuna mixed with Miracle Whip, topped with banana peppers, on toasted wheat bread.
The only restaurant near one of my summer jobs was a Little Caesar's Pizza shop. I tried everything on their menu, including a tuna sandwich that came with banana peppers. Loved it that way ever since.

Mustard, Duke’s Mayo, sweet relish, diced onion. I prefer flake tuna in water. Love a good tuna melt with Swiss!

Mustard - mustard? You can’t put mustard in tuna salad - I mean I know you CAN but this is an abomination- just so there’s no confusion - you’re doing it WRONG! 😉

I'm a purist - solid white albacore, real mayonnaise, finely diced onion and celery, salt and pepper. No pickles or apples or anything sweet. I prefer Ritz crackers to eat with it.

I always had just celery and mayo, but now I add finely diced jalapeño or hot yellow peppers. I love it that way! I don’t like pickles or mustard in my tuna. DH eats it that way. I tried it. It wasn’t for me.

White albacore tuna (I use Bumble Bee in water, the packet) 2.5 oz 2 ribs celery, chopped small 2 TBSP Olive oil mayo 1 TBSP Lemon juice 1 TBSP Sweet relish toasted slivered almonds about a tsp fresh thyme (fresh makes all the difference for me) I have this for lunch most days, with no bread. When I splurge and have it on bread I like it toasted and prefer sourdough. There is almost as much celery as tuna, I love the crunch and flavo ( though I tried adding celery seed it didn’t add anything to the recipe). I used to add the white part of green onions, but that doesn’t work as well with the thyme. And I recently tried a recipe with chopped egg whites. It was kind of bland. It’s the thyme and lemon juice that make the biggest impact for me, flavor wise. bc2ca I am going to try fresh dill the next time we buy it, and msliz I will try some chopped apple next, as I like chopped apple and pineapple in a chicken salad. Thanks for the ideas ladies! (Eta: I tried the apple, I really, really liked it. Though it was better without the thyme, I tried it both ways)

Onion, celery, chopped egg whites, salt, pepper, mayo and a tiny bit of Miracle Whip, a dash of mustard, salt and pepper. I prefer a good, firm, white bread. I use chunk tuna packed in water.
Sometimes for variety, I will add thawed frozen peas.
ETA, now I need to make some tomorrow!

Mayo or Miracle Whip, chopped celery and pickles always. I'll sometimes add some onion, sunflower seeds, or chopped apple if I have them.

Chopped apples, celery, mayo, pepper and sometimes a shake of curry powder. Prefer it on the dry side. Always on wheat toast.

I went with albacore tuna, mayo, chopped Wickles pickles, and salt and pepper on white toast. But I’m loving all of the iideas here! Definitely bookmarking this thread for future inspiration.

We do 2 ways here.
1. Mayo version Good white tuna Finely diced celery Lots of fresh ground black pepper Real mayo Fresh lemon zest Lemon juice Fresh dill
I start with tuna, add a bunch of black pepper breaking up tuna gently, adding in the celery and zest of one lemon, add mayo, finely chopped fresh dill (a lot!) and then add lemon juice and more mayo to get the consistency and zing I want. (We don’t like super “wet” mayonnaise-y tuna salad) we go for a lemon-dill taste over the tuna taste. We prefer on crackers, but often will toast bread and slather on.
2. Non-mayo version Good tuna Diced celery Black pepper Lemon olive oil or Mediterranean Herb olive oil Lemon zest if one lemon Kalamata olives chopped A pinch of Greek oregano
Gently toss everything together in a bowl, and drizzle the oil in—again I don’t measure—it’s by taste! It isn’t supposed to be super oily, just enough to hold it together. Serve on crackers or toast.
I’ve even added white cannelli beans to this and scooped it into butter lettuce leaf “cups” for a wrap or a side dish salad version. It’s delicious!
And it’s sacrilegious to use pickle relish in tuna at our house! Lol…never ever do we do it (nor do we add it to egg salad!)

Albacore solid white Tuna in water, celery and onion. Mixed with Mayo with celery salt, dill, salt, pepper and lemon.
On toasted white bread.
Sometimes I use the pampered chef dill spice mixture.

I don't like mayonnaise, so no tuna salad for me. But I found recipes using tuna with red peppers, chic peas, herbs and eat with crackers. It's really good!
I read a recipe blog where they loved Costco Planet (something) tuna. It's $15.99 for a six pack. We haven't bought it yet but may try some.

I never had tuna fish salad growing up. I love making chicken salad with mandarin oranges, mushrooms, green onions, pea pods with homemade garlic, tarragon mayonnaise. Yum 🤤
