Congratulations to your DH and your whole family! I had to laugh when you said that the two theatres had been looking for 'younger'. To me, 55 is younger! The one that he chooses now will be lucky to have him and his experience. Good luck with everything!

That’s wonderful! And how gratifying for him to have his knowledge and experience valued like that.
Keep us posted about your move!

My husband is in stage theatre. He turned 55 last year and resigned to the thought of not advancing to the level he had been hoping for by this point in his life. Then in January he saw job postings. He applied to several. One got an interview in a city we both had lived in years ago (we weren't together at the time but I was friends with is sister). Didn't get it. Two theatres that he applied for 4 years ago and got interviews for put up job postings again. He was told at the time they were going for younger. Well both theatres ended up putting in younger people without much experience in the technical world of theatre. Now theatres are looking for experience and the pay scale is higher. He got interviews for both. Theatre #1. Came back with an offer. Didn't even ask him where in the pay scale he wanted to be. They offered him the most. Plus a $5,000 signing bonus. Plus $5,000 for moving expenses. It's a city run theatre so has a great benefits package. Theatre #2. DH messages them that #1 gave him an offer. Tells them exactly what that offer is. Are they still interested in him? Yes they are. Told him to hold off #1 for awhile longer so they could get through their second set of interviews (he is on their short list and got his 2nd interview already). Also run by it's city. Now this is the one he actually wants because it puts us much closer to family. The other one adds another hour away from family. Both are great jobs for his career. Both jobs give him over twice as much pay as he has now. He's working for a much smaller theatre. The kids are excited! We are starting to pack up. It's going to be a quick move. Depending on where we go also depends on what we do living wise. We have a mortgage on this house. So lots to think about! That’s great. Still in Ontario? Yes. About 5 theatre postings he qualifies for popped. up for our Province. Got 3 interviews in total.

That’s great news! So glad they finally realized age and experience is valuable! Will you be able to find a new job, too, or will you not work? I work part time at a grocery store. Since we are moving to a city with a college and an university, I'm thinking of going back to school! I'm 47 so this is a bit of a scary thought. And I have no idea for what. However it's now an option for me.

It sounds like this move will bring more opportunities for every member of your family. I'm thrilled for you! You can think about what you really want to study and what kind of job you might really enjoy.

Update #2: We got a rental unit for April 1st. DH starts his job on March 7th. Everyone is excited about the move. No one wants to pack though. Update: Thanks for all the good wishes! DH accepted Theatre #1's offer. #2 has decided to hold off filling the position. We can't wait for a maybe. Won't be closer to family however this is a great move for our family. DH's parents have to be out of their place and of April so we have offered our current house for them. Waiting on what they decide. DH starts his new job March 7th and will commute until we figure out our housing situation. 22 year old decided to move with us because we can now help him with schooling. There is a college and an university. Currently he is full time at Tim Horton's fast food. 17 year told us last year he is trans. He has high anxiety and online schooling along with the pandemic has him behind in school. He is excited to go to a new school where no one knows him from before. This will be so much better for his mental health. I had found a part time job last Sept which I am enjoying and will miss my co workers. However I'm still very excited about this move because it benefits My family greatly in so many different ways. We will be moving maybe middle of April. Started the packing and purging! The one that he chooses now will be lucky to have him and his experience. Good luck with everything! When he was applying for theatre jobs in 2017, the one theatre did an interview and passed him up for a 24 year old who had acted with the theatre. No other theatre experience to run a theatre. Just because they didn't want to have to pay for experience. That stint almost killed the theatre. Some rich guy gifted them money to stay afloat.

Fantastic news. Congratulations to your dh. Will you be heading west of your current town? North. We had wanted to go more south but that didn't happen.
