Governor Abbott in Texas, as the subject line suggests, has sent this letter to the director of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to investigate any suspected gender-affirming health care for teenagers as child abuse. What a terrifying time for trans kids and their parents.

There's another candidate on the GOP ticker for Governor of TX and if you can believe it, he's even worse that Abbott. But Abbott is still near the top of the list for the worst they could find.
I want to wrap protective arms around those families he's targeting.

His campaign slogan is A Real Republican. A lot of conservatives and business owners are mad at how far and how long Abbott went with Covid restrictions.

Would be nice if the other Republican (who doesn't win the primary, presumably) decides to run as an independent and splits the R vote. Probably won't happen, though. Anyone who votes Republican in Texas right now, seeing what we're seeing, should have their head examined. I've been trying to think about what cause(s) I will lend my efforts to when I leave teaching, and helping to elect sane representatives is at the top of the list. There are some counties/districts that will never elect a Democrat, but there are still sane Republicans lurking around out there who can run and win. UT poll yesterday, I believe, for example showed that 65% of Texans do not believe that lawmakers are qualified to choose which books do or do not go in school libraries. They believe that school personnel are better qualified to make those decisions. I'm convinced that we are a purple state being led into chaos by a minority of cult believers and grievance holders. Also, being "mad about how far and how long Abbott went with Covid restrictions" is ludicrous, as we've had barely any restrictions at all. I guess those folks wouldn't be happy unless another 84K people had died of Covid.

It was only a matter of time. That’s why I’ve been beating the drum against these dangerous backwards horrible beliefs since I was about 12 years old.

I'm not sure if you all can read this article for free, but the deal is that the fired chief of ERCOT (in charge of electric production in most of Texas) is saying that in raising energy prices during the crisis last year, he was just following Abbott's orders. If true, that should be disqualifying. Millions of Texans, including yours truly, are paying a surcharge on our energy bills now to cover the additional expense incurred by energy providers during that time. Abbott should resign in disgrace. www.houstonchronicle.com/business/energy/article/ercot-chief-abbott-direction-power-outage-storm-16941019.php

And in return, I'd like to send Protective services to check on the mental health of parents that indoctrinate their kids with religious beliefs that hate is something to embrace when it comes to people that are unlike you.

@merge in order for Abbott to resign in disgrace, first he has to have a conscious. He's another slime ball that may take trump's place one day.

They don't vote D or R, they vote PURPLE, meaning we as a group figure out who is the best candidate for the state races, regardless of political party, in regards to public education, and vote for the candidates who support public schools. I think this election is going to be a pivotal one for public ed. Please spread this group FAR AND WIDE ACROSS TEXAS!!!

He is arguing that Abbott is not a real Republican because a real Republican would not have put any Covid restrictions in place. His name is Huffines. He’s a rich business man in Texas who owns a bunch of car dealerships among other things.

I hope no mandated reporters actual report their trans students. and because there are those "christian" schools that likely will repot even though they don't report sexual assault on their campus I hope the protective child service person goes out to investigate and reports the allegation is not true; as in just make it a formality and not find any "trans abuse" unless there is actual abuse going on such as beating, neglect etc that would be abuse for any child.

I find their strategy of asking everyone to vote in the Republican primary somewhat off-putting, though. I get the strategy behind it. My distaste is mostly emotional. Plus I don't like going into my mostly blue precinct and asking for a Republican ballot.

Well, folks, if you like what Abbott is doing, and would like to see more of it, then vote Republican in November. They want to turn us into a Christian nation-where does that leave us atheists?-outlaw abortion, go after contraception, voting, and gay/trans rights. Oh, and while they are at it, they’ll take a dump on the environment too.
Don’t be fooled by all of the flag waving. These bastards are determined to force everyone into a cookie-cutter mold that someone like Franklin Graham would approve of.

Stupid gross fucker!
