Vladimir Putin has officially declared war on Ukraine

And by their actions, which speak far louder than words, the countries bordering Ukraine and in particularly Poland, have really shown what  true Christianity is like in someone's hour of need.

Ah, there’s nothing that screams American exceptionalism like American evangelicals embarrassing themselves abroad.

One wonders why Russia is spreading this particular false information? What are they hoping to accomplish?

Putin is basically throwing things at the wall to see what stick and that he can use to justify his invasion of Ukraine.  Like the article from the AP.  From the beginning he has claimed he is saving the people of Ukraine from Naziism ignoring the fact that President Zelensky is Jewish.

Then they spread the disinformation that Ukraine and the US has all these biolabs in Ukraine and that is where they are coming up with COVID variants to spread among the masses or some such nonsense.

Then there was the bit about US soldiers were killed in Ukraine.

Now apparently he has gone back to Nazism and added the Holocaust.

What he is doing is forcing Ukraine to make concessions they shouldn’t have to make and at the same time at the end of this invasion Putin wants to be seen as the good guy who was justified in invading Ukraine.  And he really doesn’t care what lies he tells as long as he is seen as the winner.  Oh and if can get a few digs in at the US, that’s just icing on the cake.

The Chechens have gained a reputation as fierce warriors in two wars against Russia, the first from 1994 to 1996 and the second from 1999 to 2014.

It was the most violent conflict between Europe and the former U.S.S.R. since the Second World War.

Chechen warriors are now fighting in Ukraine on both sides of the front line.

However, the announcement — made with great fanfare on Feb. 25 — that Ramzan Kadyrov’s troops would be sent to Ukraine to fight alongside the Russian army did cause a stir among western media.

The Kadyrovtsy are above all specialists in policing conquered cities. They are known for the cruelty and abuse they administered in Chechnya itself, in the Donbass in 2014 where they intervened, and in Syria where some of their soldiers are still deployed.

This is not a country you can negotiate with.

This is a lose lose proposition. They’ve violated every ceasefire and humanitarian corridor so far, and they have a long history of doing so. 😓

Medvedev has started saber-rattling about Poland.

Putin does not plan to stop with Ukraine. Ukraine is just the starting point. I'm not sure how he thinks his military will be able to fight against NATO forces when Ukrainian forces are already giving him trouble, but it does not sound like they are particularly sane in Russia right now.

One thing that I can see happening is (eventually) massive unrest in Russia as goods become scarcer. You could end up seeing the Russian government fall apart - but not without some massive repression first as they try to stay in power.
