that doesn't even make sense? right? Wasn't the Keystone from canada? with canadian oil being shipped out. not for American use? I think there was some debate about how much was for US use, but regardless, a ton of NATO allies rely on Russian oil, so we couldn't make real sanctions against Russian oil without an alternative. Are there other alternatives out there? I would assume even if there are it can’t happen overnight. Im sure they are already looking into options and didn’t need Pence to point it out.

Just heard Pence say we need stronger sanctions. Need to cut off all money he is getting from Energy and gas snd we should reopen the keystone pipeline. This would be a show of American strength. This is what I got from him. I assume that we aren’t the only country that buys energy/gas from him so this isn’t all on us. that doesn't even make sense? right? Wasn't the Keystone from canada? with canadian oil being shipped out. not for American use? Republicans just like to support the oil and gas industry. And they love to attack Biden for cancelling the Keystone pipeline when gas prices rise. The facts are irrelevant, it's just a favorite talking point and criticism every time gas prices increase. Even if Biden approved the Keystone pipeline, legal challenges and construction would take years. It would be years before it might have an impact on prices. www.forbes.com/sites/rrapier/2021/09/26/revisiting-the-blame-for-high-gas-prices/?sh=40936171e31ewww.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/aug/23/facebook-posts/us-importing-large-amount-russian-oil-facebook-pos/www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/dec/01/facebook-posts/no-evidence-biden-canceling-oil-pipeline-caused-hi/www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/06/10/fact-check-higher-gas-prices-due-national-and-seasonal-demand/5253346001/www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/07/13/bogus-gop-claim-that-biden-is-responsible-higher-gasoline-prices/apnews.com/article/donald-trump-lifestyle-health-coronavirus-pandemic-prices-084a908ac2850e8690a822d6c7f56301THE FACTS: Biden’s action on the Keystone XL pipeline has nothing to do with the recent spike in gasoline prices. The pipeline handles crude oil, running from Canada to Texas through the Midwest, not gasoline, which had shortages on the East Coast after the Colonial Pipeline hack.
Biden’s order on his first day in office rescinded the construction permit for an extension to the main Keystone pipeline, which is still operating and runs about 2,687 miles (4,324 km) from Alberta to Illinois and Texas.
An expanded 1,210-mile (1,947-km) pipeline was planned to allow the system to carry up to 800,000 barrels of crude oil a day, passing through Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska.

So interesting question for you all - and I want to start by absolutely positively condemning the outrageous comments by some republicans reposted on this thread, I have earlier, but want to make it crystal clear I do not support for one second any of that garbage. One thought I had in answer to the OP and this idea that 50% of Americans support Putin, how much is the media sharing these outrageous comments fueling the idea that there is a divided response on Ukraine? Out of curiosity I went to a handful of Republican pages to see if they had responses - and even the Republican leadership (McCarthy and McConnell) put out statements condemning the invasion (granted McConnell getting a dig in, but in no way praised Putin). Of the 7 pages (granted I did not go to the known wackadoodles, some of which have already been posted) - all put out statements condemning Putin. I mean the one freaking idiot talking about Christian nations isn't even an elected official. Sometimes I think the voices of the ignorant are being replayed so much it's giving an impression of "truth" that unfortunately drives even more ignorant that direction.

We certainly have more supply, this is by no means my wheelhouse so am not sure how quickly we can increase - Pence talking about increasing oil production (which honestly is going to give some political heat for Biden in his base) is fine with me - that's a legitimate political debate.

Another contributing factor - regrettably, both Steve Bannon and Tucker Carlson have huge audiences. A quick google search - Tucker averages 3-4 million Americans per night and has the largest audience of any cable news program. Chris Wallace had the right idea to leave Fox.

Some of the ignorance by these people is just absolutely stunning. It's just horrifying. This is one of those days that I'm truly worried our "information" age where anyone can say anything and reach millions of people will be our downfall. Just so disgusting! I worry about this as well.

Thought this was interesting www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/02/25/how-republicans-moved-reagans-evil-empire-trumps-praise-putin/This week, while many Republicans blasted Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s all-out assault on Ukraine, former president Donald Trump and some of his allies urged the United States to stay out of the conflict and praised Putin, even presenting him as a “peacekeeper,” as Trump put it.
“Don’t look for consistency in Republican policy,” said Craig Shirley, a Reagan biographer and longtime Republican political consultant. “The Republican Party right now is a little schizophrenic. Anti-communism and love of freedom used to be the glue that held the party together, but now the attitudes toward Russia have gotten all mixed up with domestic politics.”
...
“Your hatred of your own political opponent is so deep that you side with Vladimir Putin as he attacks major population centers in Ukraine, which is extraordinary,” Rid said.

Thought this was an interesting and accurate perspective www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/02/25/gop-humors-trump-praise-putin-ukraine/ But here’s the key point: Blaming Biden’s weakness also obscures Trump’s alignment with Putin on the bigger question of whether Ukrainian sovereignty and the international order should be defended in the face of Putin’s threats to it. Republicans are erasing what Trump got spectacularly wrong and replacing it with an account in which Trump was and remains eternally strong, which is faithful to Trumpism at its most base level.
Here’s the bottom line. Many Republicans are legitimately horrified by Putin’s invasion and do support action against it. What they cannot do is hold this position while also admitting that Trump consistently sided with Putin against Ukraine; that Trump’s efforts to weaken our international commitments are largely aligned with Putin and against the interests of the West; and that we’re now witnessing the awful truth about the threat that Trump consistently downplayed.

Another perspective that explains one possible reason for the embrace of Putin - they agree with his anti-immigrant stance. This might explain Pompeo, too www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/02/25/tucker-carlson-russia-views-evolution/Which is to say, Putin hasn’t changed; Carlson has. A convincing explanation for his embrace of Putin — as well as of Hungary’s strongman, Viktor Orbán — comes from the Atlantic’s Anne Applebaum: “The aggrieved Americans who now find their way to Orbán or Vladimir Putin also dislike their own country, albeit for different reasons. They cannot abide its racial diversity, its modern culture, its free press.”
The core of Carlsonism is a roaring contempt for immigrants, whose alleged crimes he hypes and who he says make this country “poorer and dirtier.” Now compare that platform with Putin’s position: “This liberal idea presupposes that nothing needs to be done. That migrants can kill, plunder and rape with impunity because their rights as migrants have to be protected,” Putin told the Financial Times.

Hometown newspaper slams 'Putin-enabling Trumpist' Josh HawleyTravis Gettys February 25,2022 Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) faced criticize in his hometown newspaper over his reaction to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The Kansas City Star's editorial board rebuked Hawley and other "Putin-enabling Trumpists" who "spent years emboldening mad Vlad Putin" only to turn around and blame President Joe Biden after the Russian president launched an unprovoked attack on the democratic neighbor that Donald Trump tried to shake down in an extortion scheme. "You Trumpists, whose idol just this week emailed his followers a single 'news' link — to a story on RT.com, the website of Kremlin-backed Russian state TV?" the board wrote. "And who even now praises the dissenter-poisoning dictator’s recent moves in Ukraine as 'genius,' 'savvy,' 'wonderful,' and 'smart?' Y’all need to call a wartime ceasefire on B.S."
The editorial board blamed these same Republicans, including Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall and former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, for poisoning the well against NATO and then turning around accusing Biden of weakness after Putin challenged the alliance."Wait, was it Biden who praised the illegal 2014 invasion of Crimea, or denied solid U.S. intelligence about Russian interference in our election, or eased sanctions on Russian oligarchs, or thanked Putin for expelling our diplomats, or broke the law by freezing aid to Ukraine?" the board wrote. "Or wanted to readmit Russia to the G-7? Or weirdly, out of nowhere, six years ago, inserted into his party’s platform that should Russia ever invade Ukraine, we would offer Ukraine no help?" "No, that was the guy who no current national Republican other than Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, who have only metaphorically been sent to Siberia, is willing to question in any way," the board added. The editorial board noted that some Republicans had treated the situation with seriousness, but called on Hawley and others -- including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) -- to grow up. www.rawstory.com/josh-hawley-putin/

Conversations don’t exist. I get pissed off reading them so in an effort to enjoy this board I keep my reading of political threads to a minimum.

I have seen quite a few of my conservative Christian friends posting their support for Ukraine on FB today. I wonder if they realize that this puts them at odds with the Orange Nightmare. But if it holds and grows more widespread, it may be an interesting turn of the tide. I don’t mean to make light of a serious topic, but this made me laugh as I read it. Legacy Girl calling Trump the Orange Nightmare is like when I post using the f word. We use our rough words sparingly. It’s like hearing your middle name. You know the person has. had. it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her come close to using this language and I am here for it! 😆 Glad I could make you laugh, my friend. You've got me PEGGED!

Nothing stopped him from expressing his opinions before, even uneducated ones. The comments are kind of funny, he will release his plan in 2 weeks. I tend to agree, other than maybe inviting Putin into Ukraine or possibly launching nuclear weapons, the “great negotiator” has nothing.

Bah, T-rump is a blowhard, & I don't know why anybody asks his uninformed opinion about anything. He'll release his plan "in 2 weeks," the same timeframe he kept offering for when he'd reveal his imaginary health care plan. Needless to say, there wasn't one. Hard issues mean hard work, & he's not interested in that.
