Since today is Fat Tuesday, what are your Lenten plans? I'm still figuring mine out. I'll probably give up desserts for Lent, and read a small scripture every morning. Is everyone having pancakes for dinner tonight?

I have never heard of pancakes for dinner as a Lent tradition. Or is it for the day before?

Im giving up chocolate and hoping it sticks this time!
Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday arent a thing where I live. Paczki are, but I think they are gross.

I have never heard of pancakes for dinner as a Lent tradition. Or is it for the day before? It's tradition in the Catholic church...at least where I'm from...to have pancakes for dinner on Fat (or Shrove) Tuesday. The theory is that pancakes are fattening and we will be eating a lot less fattening stuff during Lent...which doesn't really happen...but it's still a tradition. My father gives up desserts for Lent every year and loses about 20 lbs...I'm not quite that disciplined.

We're having pancakes for dinner at home, but not going to our church's pancake supper since DH's asthma is really bad at the moment. We always have pancakes for Fat Tuesday/Shrove Tuesday. ( pilcas, it's traditional food for the day before Ash Wednesday, when Lent begins.) As for other lenten plans, not sure yet.

We're eating pancakes right this minute. Pumpkin pancake mix from Trader Joe's. It's kind of traditional, but also it's fun to have breakfast for dinner.

We had salmon for dinner, forgot that pancakes were a big Mardi Gras meal. Growing up, we had pancakes for dinner every Thurs. My dad played volleyball on Thursdays and felt that pancakes gave him energy! I was so tired of pancakes, I have hardly eaten them since living at home. My family loves pancakes and would eat them for any meal!

Pancakes for dinner. It reminds me of Shrove Tuesday when I was a kid. Not sure about Lent yet. I should give up eating junk food after supper. It is a habit that got much more common during the last 2 years.

Instead of giving something up this year I am going to try to do something that is a sacrifice (do a chore that someone else doesn't like to do, watch what I say: less cussing, more positive words,; doing things I don't like to do without being grumpy about it).
I was going to fix pancakes for supper but then realized that I could make breakfast for supper tomorrow (eggs, potatoes, pancakes) and make it an easy meatless meal. Plus, I made 2 huge king cakes this afternoon (one is filled with apple with cinnamon/nutmeg/ginger and the other has a maple/walnut filling. There are only four of us, to eat these so we sure don't need pancakes as well, LOL.

It's a good idea -- do something nice/pleasant/helpful instead of not doing something. Either way, it's a conscious decision.

I’ve been eating cookies all day. I’m giving up sweets. My Lenten Bible study plan is the book of Ezekiel. Yesterday was foundational with multiple verses about the resurrection and today we actually started the book.

I have never heard of pancakes for dinner as a Lent tradition. Or is it for the day before? Me either and I’m Catholic! 🤣🤣🤣 Now we do bake potatoes pancakes for dinners on Fridays during Lent. We made dirty rice and grilled shrimp! Yummy! Dessert—maybe ice cream. When we were little we had either cheese pizza or grilled cheese or Mac-n-cheese 🧀 We don’t necessarily “give up” for Lent, we tend to take up something, and given the war in Ukraine, we’re talking about pooling our family money and giving it to help Ukraine. We just are not sure to where yet. When kiddos were little we gave each (plus us) a calendar covering all the days of Lent, we sat down and wrote one thing that we would do to help someone else—could be anything—acts, kind words, money, gifting. We do more of a family version now, and while we haven’t each written a calendar in a few years, it seems to “have stuck” and has been remembered we see out of the blue compliments, favors, wanting to do something for another…

My parents Methodist church does a Lenten luncheon every Wed. during Lent. Their luncheons are just a small group, but my parents enjoy it! Because most of their members are elderly, they don't do Fish Fries on Fridays. That would be too much work for their small church.

I love the calendar idea. I'll suggest that to my son when he has children.

I just dont like jelly donuts or custard, so those made with lard are even less appealing!

Years ago I 'gave up' giving up something for Lent and now try to just do something nice for someone every single day all year. Even if it is just a compliment to someone, or picking up a piece of trash I see.

Well I was working and work again tonight so nothing great, but they did have King cake in the cafeteria.
I'm giving up McDonald's for Lent. Laugh if you like 😁 but it's an actual sacrifice I'm making. No large diet coke on the way to work is like giving up coffee for other people. No chicken biscuit on the way home from work, no quick cheeseburger on the way to work.
It's going to be really hard but I've done it before. And just think of all the time I'll not be sitting in drive thru lines!

I used to tell my son to do something nice/kind each day and then at dinner we would share what we did. It was fun and I hope it made an impact. It wasn't based on anything religious, it was just an effort to teach him some compassion, start the habit of focusing on other people, and to be a kinder human being. Once he told me his good deed for the day was saying hello to someone at school. I asked why that was a good deed and he said it was because he was a popular kid and the boy he said hello to wasn't. Ugh. I said it was acceptable, but just saying hello as he walked by someone that he deemed unpopular wasn't quite what I was hoping he would do. I told him to try to expand that by sitting with the kid at lunch or inviting him to play whatever game they were playing at recess. Getting to know this boy. He agreed to try.

No laughing here...two years ago, right before before the pandemic started, my priest's Ash Wednesday homily mentioned something about giving up McDonalds for Lent. Great minds think alike!

We didn't have pancakes this year because my work shifts have changed and I don't get home till after 7:30pm on a Tuesday now. Too late to cook and stuff with pancakes.
But I've given up sugar for Lent and will make a donation to charity. I need to lose some of that chemo weight anyway!
