What a bunch of dimwits. My parents never censored what I read, and what was too “mature” went right over my head. It’s especially stupid nowadays when kids can grab a parents phone and see stuff that truly is gross. Libraries are good! Why don’t they get it? I feel like my head is going to explode just reading this.

This is ridiculous. You should be able to take out any book you want at a library. Books should not be banned or censored. Librarians do not even check out books to patrons, the circulation staff does (who should not be jailed either).

Have they even read the Bible? I mentioned that on a thread sometime back... Or look within their whole group of so many perverts..

This infuriates me. If parents want to censor what their own children read, that’s fine. But it absolutely crosses the line when they try to censor what is available for other kids read. Absolutely unacceptable for them to impose their beliefs on other children, other families. And what qualifications do parents or politicians have to make educational decisions? Do they have a degree in library science or a teaching certificate? I guess when some people decided their own “research” online is the equivalent of the education, training, research and experience of epidemiologists and doctors, they decided we don’t need experts like teachers and librarians to make educational decisions either.

It should be the parent’s responsibility to check what their children are reading. It is crazy to say a librarian can be jailed and fined! My parents never censored what I read. My friends and I were reading The Godfather in the 7th grade.

It's a means of intimidation. If we can make those who are purchasing the books fearful that they will be jailed because of them, or have a big fine, they wont buy those books. A parent called the police on a High School librarian in my district saying she has porn in the library, Which isn't true. Luckily they didn't even give the complaint the time of day. They are starting with the books that they believe are pornographic and then they are coming for books with LGBTQ themes and Characters. That is their end game. I'm watching it happen in my state.

I saw this last night, and thought of you librarylady. But I just couldn't post it. It's just too sad that this is who we are as in 2022 (at least in some states).

Some books for LGBTQ questioning kids do have line drawings and visuals about sex positions, etc. TO HELP EXPLAIN what kids are already feeling/thinking about.
But these parents see these pictures and have a coronary. As if middle school and older kids don't know how to use porn sites already.
I'd rather my kid be taught by competent sex ed authors than by porn hub.

Idaho is trying to outdo FL and TX apparently, because the House just passed HB 675, too. Make sure you're sitting before you read some of it.

I have not seen any with line drawings of sexual positioning, those wouldn't be appropriate for Jr High which is the age I teach. I do have some about Gender Identity and LGBTQ rights. I am talking about a books of fiction that has two moms, or a transgender cheerleader, or a romance with two boys or two girls, Or even just a character that is questioning their feelings for someone of the same sex.

Really some people should make copies of Bible pages and read them out loud at school board meeting.. The 8 kinkiest passages of the Bible Dildos, dongs and a near-endless supply of boobs. The Good Book is a whole lot naughtier than we give it credit www.salon.com/2015/04/06/the_8_kinkiest_passages_of_the_bible_partner/A sampling: "1. Dildos and dil-don’ts One of the weirder books in the Bible (and we say that with a pillar of salt) is Ezekiel, who is a visionary and possibly God’s first experiment with LSD. In Ezekiel, God is pissed about Israel’s idolatry and immorality, such as all the jewelry that Judah (the town, who is described as an adulterous wife-prostitute for some reason) is turning into dildos. “You also took the fine jewelry I gave you, the jewelry made of my gold and silver, and you made for yourself male idols and engaged in prostitution with them.” (Ezekiel 16:17) Wives! So inconsiderate, amirite? You take the time and money to give some nice bling to your doting lady, and she goes and turns them into dongs and whores herself out with them. Next time, you should probably go with flowers, Zeke. 2. Women are the worst, part two Deuteronomy is basically a big, weird pep talk from Moses where he explains God’s rules, such as when to marry your sister-in-law (if you’re confused, here’s a breakdown in Legos), when to muzzle one’s ox, and when to never seize a man’s genitals: "If two men, a man and his countryman, are struggling together, and the wife of one comes near to deliver her husband from the hand of the one who is striking him, and puts out her hand and seizes his genitals, then you shall cut off her hand; you shall not show pity." (Deuteronomy 25:11-12) So, wait a minute. Two bros are out fighting and then a wife comes to rescue her husband who’s getting beaten up, but then tries to initiate a menage a trois? There’s a time and a place, girlfriend! And it is not during Fight Club. There’s no orgies in fight club, as the little known third rule goes. We think, perhaps, that the real reason this gal is slated to get her hand cut off is because she caught her hubby having some gay sex with his fellow countryman and was like, “When in Israel…” and tried to join, but they were having none of that. But that’s just our guess."

These republicans creating all this bullshit legislation need to understand it’s the parents job to monitor their child’s screen time, reading, etc.
The refuglicans are only creating this legislation because they think it all the “Libs”.
I hate these republicans more and more every day.

The R head of the Senate in Idaho says it won't pass on his watch... www.usnews.com/news/best-states/idaho/articles/2022-03-09/idaho-bill-to-fine-jail-librarians-appears-dead-in-senatefrom the article: Specifically, the bill seeks to delete a section of Idaho code that protects schools, colleges, universities, museums, public libraries and employees of those entities from being prosecuted under another section of Idaho law involving giving harmful materials to minors. Idaho law classifies disseminating material harmful to minors a misdemeanor. The Idaho law explicitly defines as “harmful to minors” various acts, including masturbation. However, the Idaho law also states the law doesn’t apply to “any matter which, when considered as a whole, and in context in which it is used, possesses serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value for minors, according to prevailing standards in the adult community, with respect to what is suitable for minors.” Winder said the bill to jail librarians was among a number of bills that likely won't make it through the Senate. "I don’t think you’ll see some of the craziness that the House seems to like to do get very far in the Senate,” he said. Still, Republican Rep. Brent Crane held out hope. He's the chairman of the House State Affairs Committee where that bill and several others he supports originated and are now in the Senate. “The folks that brought that (librarian bill) forward made a very clear case that we have a problem here in Idaho, and I'm intrigued that the Senate would not take it up in an attempt to try to correct a glaring problem with our libraries,” he said after learning about Winder's comments. In conservative Idaho, Republicans hold super-majorities in both the House and Senate. Republican leaders of the part-time Idaho Legislature are trying to wrap up the session by March 25, and sometimes House and Senate bills are held as bargaining chips as the session winds down. “It's this time of session where a lot of things are said," Crane said. "And then as we get down toward the end of session, somehow those things end up making it on a calendar.”

Do they think every library staff has read every book in their library that they would know off the top of their heads what’s in each one?
A book comes across the check out desk and it’s a title/author and that it in the moment they have while checking it out.
I know our school librarians work super hard to know the books in their library, I know several and they know their stuff. If your child asks about similar books these school librarians do know their stuff, that’s the job. They read youth books all the time. One librarian I know reads most ( probably all ) of the books she purchases for her school library, but there’s books in there that were there before she began there. There’s a lot of books in there.
In the public library it is much different. 1/2 the people checking you out at our public library are volunteers and haven’t read every book and would have no idea the content of every book at check out. What an absurd idea for a law.

Idaho House Republicans kill library budget, citing ‘harmful’ materials, pornography "On what was slated to be the second-to-last day of the legislative session, Idaho House Republicans killed the budget for the Idaho Commission for Libraries after debate over controversial materials in libraries. The bill died Thursday in a 33-36 vote. The budget before the House included a cut of about $300,000 that had been used for a statewide e-book collection for K-12 students. Assistant Minority Leader Lauren Necochea, D-Boise, in a statement called the vote “senseless retribution” against librarians who spoke out against a previous bill that would have removed legal protections for schools, colleges, universities and libraries to disseminate “harmful” materials to minors. That bill passed the House but didn’t get a hearing in the Senate. “The revised budget already punished Idaho students, reducing their access to books so that House GOP legislators could make a political statement,” Necochea said. “Ultimately, Idaho’s children are paying the price with diminished access to books, especially in schools with limited resources.” " www.eastidahonews.com/2022/03/idaho-house-republicans-kill-library-budget-citing-harmful-materials-pornography/They're so worried about what children might see in a library book (oh, noes, sex ed!!!) I guess they've never heard of porn hub. Trust me, Idaho idiotic-thinking legislators, if your kids want to find sex images, they know where to look.
