I could use some good news and optimism today. I'm finding myself very sad and depressed due to all the gloomy news of war and inflation. I'm trying to remind myself of good things - healthy family, steady income, a room full of scrapbook supplies, more sunshine on the way....
Please share your good news and good things!

Well.... I don't really have any extraordinary good news, but just a few little things... -- My Buy Nothing group. I just got through putting a bunch of stuff out on my porch for people to pick up. One woman who wanted several items is home working today and said she'd try to get here later. I offered to bring it to her house instead since I'm happy to have a reason to get out (I really don't like walking so if I have an excuse that forces me to do it ). I dropped it off and later she texted to offer some baby tomato plants when hers get a bit bigger. -- The dog next door who escaped her yard by going under the fence, right into my yard. She appeared at my side door looking very cute...you know, the ears back, butt wiggling kind of cute. I think she was surprised to find me on the other side of the door. -- The nice weather. -- The lunch I'm about to eat -- leftover chili with melty cheese on top.

I made an 80 on my Epidemiology mid-term. First college exam I've taken in 17 years, felt pretty good.

I woke up to an email from the Covid test center where I had a pre-travel PCR test yesterday. Test result was negative, which means I can fly to Australia tomorrow! This is our first visit in 2 years, since Australia closed its borders due to the Covid pandemic. We will be there for our granddaughter's 3rd birthday party, which will be rainbow themed.

As we're shifting our stuff around the house (movers are coming this afternoon to move all the big things back into place), I found DS's missing thumb key off his clarinet. He'll be happy - he was complaining that he didn't like the one he replaced it with.
My cat has been boarded for the last 9 days due to the floors being refinished. I'm going to pick him up as soon as the movers leave. I'm so excited to see the little guy!!!!!
I saw a bald eagle yesterday -- it makes my heart sing every time. When I was a kid, they were on the endangered species list due to DDT poisoning. My friend saw a snowy owl at the beach this weekend. They winter here in New England. Also a Siberian Stellar's sea eagle was spotted not far from here - it's very much out of its range and all the birders have been trying to get a glimpse.

a client didn't receive a very important notice from a government agency because it was lost in the mail. we're talking "miss the deadline and your case is denied" kind of important. we requested a copy on behalf of the client but that govt agency has been very very slow in responding because of Covid.
i just found out that the govt has extended it's processing an extra 60 days beyond the deadline on the notice. whoo-hoo! thank you Jesus! this means nothing to anyone around here but it means the world to our client. i mean, that is life changing news. now if we can actually get a copy of that letter then things would be even better.
ETA: on a far more shallow level, my hair stylist had a cancellation and i can now get a color before a special dinner i'm supposed to attend this weekend. i know i could do a home color but i was really hoping to get it done right and now i can. big relief. oh, and my cleaning lady can come next week instead so i can go get my hair done. double good fluff news.

MIL(89) was hospitalized with an erratic heart rate (down to 22 bpm ) on the weekend and received a pacemaker yesterday. Her first words to SIL after surgery was she is going to Greece this summer.

I have great news! We think DD is going to get $30,000 for her doctorate!
DH and I are in Germany right now, taking his TAP class, which is a week long seminar to prepare for retiring from the military and transitioning into the civilian world. Today, during the post-separation education portion, we found out that DD is likely eligible for an extension to DH’s Post 9-11 GI bill. It’s $30,000 that she won’t have to borrow!
Seriously, the Post 9-11 Bill was life changing for our family. DH was able to split it between both kids and they used it for their undergrad degrees, saving their college funds for grad school. Both kids graduated debt free from their undergrad colleges. DS has taken out less than $20,000 for his grad degree (electrical engineering) and DD will probably only need to borrow for one or two semesters for her physical therapy doctorate. Life changing!

We had a women’s event at church this weekend. Love being part of the team, working with my friends and it was an amazing time. My BFF who is our team leader moved to Fl this summer. She flew up for this and was the speaker. Her dd got engaged while she was here! We got to go to breakfast this morning.
Logan was hoping for a main role in the school play. This totally surprised me. (He’s a JUNIOR believe it or not, and we all have to look up to him. He enjoys being tall.) He’s in the ensemble with added role of butler #2. I ended up being there for practice last week and was so pleased. I never see him put forth this much effort! He was concentrating and his movements were nice and big. In chatting with the director, she said his audition was excellent. He would have had a main role if he was a senior. Here’s hoping for next year!

I didn't have an asthma attack at all while in Disney last week - which took steroids and 3 inhalers but it worked!! This weekend I'm going to a craft crop with 3 friends, 1 of which lives in FL so I'm excited to see her

Dropped off our dog to "get married and have a honeymoon" at her breeder's house.
If all goes well, we'll take her back to have the pups mid-May and then we'll bring her and a pup back home in July!

Group text messages all morning between two daughters, two son-in-laws, DH and myself about a big cross-country move by oldest daughter and son-in-law (New York to Oregon). Lots of logistics to work out (including baby, cat and a dog that can't fly!) and everyone is helping. I love my family!

My moms club for church met last night and we had 18 people attend. Last month we had 22. The leader had thought about dropping the group altogether because our numbers had been so low last year. Thankfully, the rest of the leadership team encouraged her that we should keep it going. We've just had the best time this year. Such an amazing group of ladies!
I posted over in the dinner thread that I'm spending my birthday weekend on campus with DD for our first sorority moms weekend. I'm so excited to see her and meet her new sisters!
Thank you for starting this thread, OP. Good news threads are always my favorites!

I have already made a post but I am happy to be getting to see family soon, and even better than going to IL to do it, we'll all be in Mexico for my cousin's wedding.
My parents won't be there but tons of aunts, uncles, and cousins I haven't seen in many years except via Facebook. Plus my sister!
My son has been having some real struggles with anxiety and depression. We moved him back in with us for the time being. He's adjusting to new medication and seems to be doing a lot better and I am very grateful. A friend of a friend just lost her son to suicide, the second of her sons to do so. I'm just hoping to get DS to a good place so he can get back to his own life. He's going to take care of my pets while I'm gone, so I don't need to worry about my kitties while I'm gone. (The dog on the other hand might be disappointed she's not going to be boarded, because she loves it there--it's also a dog daycare and most of the employees are teenage girls who love dogs. I normally use a cat lady to feed them and check on them daily when I'm on vacation but I'm glad to have someone with them full time.)

My good news is after taking a bad faceplant at the ice rink I have no broken bones or serious injuries. It was my first big fall and other than a big goose egg on my forehead, a swollen nose bridge and cuts and a purple hand I am essentially unscathed. I would not have thought I would be leaving blood on the rink like a hockey player!

I’m meeting an old school friend for lunch on Thursday. We haven’t seen each other since 2019 as we live in different parts of the country. We decided to meet in a city closer to her, but she messaged me earlier to say she doesn’t think even a long lunch will give us enough time to catch up, and invited me to go back with her for an overnight. 😊

My state lawmakers are *this close* to passing an outdoor education for all bill, which would provide funds for every 5th or 6th grader in the state to go to outdoor school for a week. I'm waiting on pins and needles, as this is attached to my new job. We are just waiting for the green light to go!!! Three more days until the session is done.
ETA: the bill passed last night, so on to the governor's office to be signed! The governor has been a very vocal support for outdoor school, so we expect no issues. Super excited here!!!

Went shopping at the Goodwill today. Here is what I found. This is a set of All Clad turkey lifters for $3.99 (retail price at Williams Sonoma is $34.99 👍) I also booked my flight to see my brother in Seattle this summer and got a great price on the tickets. $500 cheaper than Delta.

I'm getting a Center Director's Innovation Award next month. No monetary award attached to it since I'm a contractor, but it's cool to have in my pocket on a resume and at any pay negotiation time (like the end of the year when our contract is up).
I'm also going to see Hamilton tomorrow!!!
