cakediva I'm sorry that seemed like a non-sequitur. My fault for not being clear. What I'm saying is that Americans who get their news from sources that are Pro-Trump look to blame Biden for everything, an idea that Fox "News" is happy to reinforce. Also, the US President generally gets blamed for fuel prices & inflation, even though he has little control over either, something that would be understood by somebody who learned from the business/finance pages of reputable newspapers. Those who are uneducated also tend to be non-readers, unwilling to research to form a basis for critical thinking, and that makes them vulnerable to whatever grievance-based con man comes along. Yup. I heard it this weekend. “Biden is at fault for high gas prices, and why aren’t we drilling?” “He has handled Russia sooooo badly.” And so on.They just say stuff. Doesn’t have to be true. Today at the gas station, there was a sticker next to the window with the price per gallon and total cost. The sticker was partly ripped, but it was a picture of Biden and it said I did that. Thought this was an interesting perspective on how the media contributes to the false Republican/ Fox narrative that high gas prices are President Biden's fault. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/03/13/gop-lies-gas-media/In framing oil prices as a political story of the “GOP claim vs. White House defense” variety, the media provides demonstrably false accusations with oxygen. The political story gets tilted in Republicans’ favor and, moreover, misinforms the public about the substantive issues surrounding “energy independence” and pricing. To boot, the media largely avoids confronting GOP politicians on their dependence on political contributions from the oil and gas industry. This media failure is part of the larger problem in coverage of two parties that do not equally respect facts and truth. As unnatural as it may be for reporters trained not to “take sides,” their obligation to news consumers is to tell the truth, not to provide cover for disingenuous politicians. They should be on the side of the reality. It’s Republicans’ own fault if they get caught denying it.

Help the Canadian out please - is he talking all the way down to the people we see at the front desk if we go into a federal office for assistance? Or higher than that? No. Sorry for the long reply but it’s needed for clarity. Civil service employees here have two general classifications – Competitive and Excepted. Employees under Competitive have protections against at-will removal. Employees under Excepted can be removed at-will. Trump’s executive order in 2020 (which was never implemented as I explained earlier) would have reclassified Competitive employees under what’s called Schedule F as a new designation under Excepted. These reclassified employees are not the people at front desks; they are policy staff. Policy staff do not normally change whenever a new president is elected because these people are supposed to be apolitical. So, Trump’s goal, really, was to reclassify these people so they can be dismissed at-will presumably so that his admin can put his own choices in those positions.

as the GOP and the nation’s law enforcement system have embraced the American “Christian” version of Sharia law which dictates that women are the property of men and their principal purpose for existence is reproduction. Spot on. The exact same set up but by a different name.

Think again..(while I was looking for something else, I found this) check the whole piece... Next up on GOP’s agenda: Stripping women of political and economic powerThom Hartmann December 03, 2021*** But that’s just the first of a series of ideas Republicans have to regulate women’s behavior and roll back the clock to the early 1960s when women couldn’t get a credit card without their father’s or husband’s permission, had no legal right to birth control in some states, and faced fully legal discrimination in housing, education and employment. *** These cases have exploded in recent years, as the GOP and the nation’s law enforcement system have embraced the American “Christian” version of Sharia law which dictates that women are the property of men and their principal purpose for existence is reproduction. www.rawstory.com/next-up-on-gops-agenda-stripping-women-of-political-and-economic-power/Frightening. I am wondering if it would be possible to actually enforce a ban on abortion pills, many of which come in the mail. I can’t see how they would be able to track these prescriptions, if they are out of state or out of the country. Could they do that?

Jesus Christ this is scary. And the gas prices are making some democrats (me) question their votes. Then something like this gets said amd I know I’m not the problem and I’ll continue to vote democrat. You really should read up on how gas prices work. NO SITTING PRESIDENT has control over the price of crude oil. Oh wait, that orange gorilla apparently does.

ETA: and I totally understand the feelings of despair, etc. over news and mis-information influencing people's opinions. IMO, Democrats do NOT do enough to refute the Trump / Republican lies about things like gas prices, inflation, etc. So the news stories become 'gas prices are high because of Biden' and they don't get called out for the lies they are (or it doesn't seem like they do, anyway).

At this point in time, the only thing I am concerned with politically is keeping Republicans out as best we can.

The 5 year sunset law on bills and raising taxes are part of Rick Scott’s 11 point plan to rescue America.
And there is a complete copy of what his grand scheme, broken down by each point, on the Build Back Better vs Rick Scott’s plan thread.
I invite those who haven’t read it to read it as there is a lot of interesting things he has planned for America.
Granted this is just Rick Scott’s vision but IMO it’s reflective of a lot of conservatives views.
Its worth a read just so one is aware of how conservatives would like to handle things.
