There are badgers in the wooded gully behind my house. Tonight they are having what sounds like one giant orgy. The cries and screams and guttural grunts are driving me crazy! I could hear them stomping about in my garden earlier (they dig under the fence). It sounds like someone is being murdered back there, and I’m trying to get to sleep!

I'm sorry, that made me laugh outloud. I had the visual of them all back there cheering it up and hooting and hollering, telling jokes, jabbing at each other. A real party in the woods! Again sorry!

Springtime turns a young badger's heart to love.
I hope they settle down soon.

Badgers are SCARY! I keep a very VERY wide berth around them. Whew! My DS went out to bring in something from my car a couple of weeks ago and when he opened the front door, there was a badger at the bottom of the steps. They stood and looked at each other for a few seconds, DS not knowing at all what to do, before the badger turned and ambled off.

I'd love badgers in my backyard. Yesterday I got woken at 7.30 to the sound of drilling as the apartment below mine was having air-con installed. The noise continued until 2pm. I'd swap that for badger nookie in a heartbeat.

Badger orgy for the win! I always laugh at this meme, but now I am thinking differently about British badgers.

Oh no! We used to have a neighbor with a Peacock. Now that was annoying as it sounded like a lady either having a great time or being murdered.

I'll keep my chatty turkeys. They crack me up.
I'd love to see a "herd" of badgers, but I want to see them in Europe.

Badger orgy for the win! I always laugh at this meme, but now I am thinking differently about British badgers. That is so funny! I was a big fan of the Frances books when I was little, but so confused on why the badgers were so cute as I had always pictured American badgers, I had no idea European badgers were so cute! OP, I hear you about the noises, the neighbors had a cat a few years ago that got when she was in heat and the noises that lady would make! Holy hell. Sounded like a banshee being murdered in the backyard.

Okay, this is going to sound weird but I googled badger deterrent and the first thing that popped up was to have a male human urinate in the area they are congregating. Citronella is also a deterrent and certainly smells better, but you may not have any on hand. I suggest giving your husband and son huge glasses of water and having them go outside and have at it! There are also things you can order to do the job, but of course, that is going to take a few days to arrive. The only immediate deterrent is male urine. At least you might get a decent night’s sleep.

They are all peas. Specifically honey badgers. Ferocious.

No badgers keeping me up but I did have a skunk wake me up 2 nights in a row. And it wasn't from the noise... What.an.awful.stench.
Must have been right outside my window or something. Nothing last 2 nights. Let's just hope it was a fluke.

"our" badgers. There's a sett at the bottom of our garden, and we watch them bringing up their youngsters on the critter-cams. Last year they had a litter of 3, the year before it was 4 or 5. This is the season for making baby badgers, and yes, they're noisy little beggars.

That American badger looks terrifying! I've never seen or heard a badger in real life but I live in hopes of being invited round for a custard cream soon.

Yes, they are very cute but you have my sympathy about the noise they make. Hope last night was a little quieter for you.

Sorry the noise was keeping you awake but my husband would love to have badgers at the bottom of our garden. He’s obsessed with seeing a live badger!

Lol. Anyone who has foxes living by them knows about the "omg someone's being murdered right outside!" noises. In the spring with our windows opened...

Lol. Anyone who has foxes living by them knows about the "omg someone's being murdered right outside!" noises. In the spring with our windows opened... We have foxes too! Sometimes it can be difficult to distinguish what’s making the noise. The foxes tend to be a bit more shrill, and the badgers more guttural. Last night was definitely a badger party. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find vodka bottles, beer cans and condoms if I jumped the fence into the gully. 😉

The noises sound awful! I'm so sorry I had to laugh when I read this: It brought to mind that old song "Muskrat love" which is now stuck in my head.

I’m doing too many things at once, and I read bagpipers instead of badgers. The scene in my mind was a doozy for sure.

I have a couple of neighbours who play the bagpipes and I now have an image of them striding out of the woods, playing the pipes while the badgers cavort. 😂

I have a cute badger story. My father in law was a conservation officer back in the 60's and 70's before he passed. He was always bringing home baby animals. One year he brought home a baby badger and they raised it. My DH named it woofer and used to put a leash on him and take him for walks. He was then given to a traveling petting zoo. My DH has the funniest animal stories growing up. They rehabbed a great horned owl named hootie. They released him back into the wild but that owl came back every evening for dinner for awhile.
