This has been on going for years and it just gets worse each year.
My Vit D levels have dropped again even though I am in the sun 30+ min a day, and take a crap ton of vit D.
What else is there to do? Was there any treatment that helped?
I wonder if it is my GI system due to hEDS +.
However my other vitamins/minerals are on point. I don't get it.
And this is while I could still eat foods high in vit d and now can't. Ton of allergies (eggs, lactose, all fish, all meat but pork, soy, tofu, nuts, bananas and more).

Do you take a supplement? If not, you can take over the counter Vitamin D or your doctor could prescribe a stronger dosage.

I would look in to why your body isn't absorbing the vit D. I know you need Calcium to help absorb it. Do you take Calcium also? I don't know the exact scientific facts on that though. I was very low about 5 yrs ago, and my dr put me on a huge dosage for 3 months, then decreased it. That did the job, but I still take a lower dose. I also live in northern MN, where there isnt a lot of sun in the winter.

What's a crap ton of vitamin D? 5,000 10,000, 20,000 UI a day? Do you take vitamin D3 + K? m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0AmWd57pfgIt's really hard to get enough vitamin D from the sun. Points from the notes of this video: Sunlight provides about 1,000IU of vitamin D for every ten minutes of direct sunlight—but only if you: • Live close to the equator. • Are young (aged skin doesn’t absorb as much sunlight) • Go outside during the middle of the day • Are laying down with minimal clothing to maximize skin exposure • Are outside when there aren’t any clouds or pollution to cause shade • Aren’t obese (body fat decreases the penetration of sunlight) • Don’t have dark-colored skin (melanin decreases UV absorption) • Don’t have a genetic defect with your vitamin D receptors • Don’t have any gut problems, inflammation, or microbial imbalances to block vitamin D • Have a gallbladder and normal bile release to fully utilize fat-soluble nutrients

I have been taking 1,000 units of Vitamin D daily for several years. My number was still not up to normal 3 months ago so the internist gave me a Rx for D that I took once per week for 12 weeks. I just finished that so will be curious about my numbers the next time I have blood work done.

Your doctor should definitely be looking into why you aren’t absorbing vitamin d.
I’m allergic to dairy and eggs and am a red head, so I never go outside without sunscreen. Add in that I live in a climate that gets more rain than Seattle and has fewer sunny days, and I take a supplement. I was at 11 when I was diagnosed after experiencing debilitating muscle aches and fatigue. I’m in the 40s now.
I don’t get a lot of vitamin d from my diet, so it’s pretty much all a supplement for me.

What is your serum calcium level? If it's high (above 10.0 if you're 35+), it may be hyperparathyroidism. My vitamin D level is low (12 -15) and my serum calcium is high which, come to find out, is caused by hyperparathyroidism which means I have an adenoma on one or more of my parathyroid glands. I'm having surgery in a few weeks to correct the problem.

Pure speculation, but it sounds like your not absorbing it well or at all. Maybe on of the other health conditions is causing it? Specifically the gi issues? I’d start with your GI doctor if you have one. We’ve been lucky that my daughter has done well with a daily prescription strength supplement along with a daily multivitamin. Hers increased 10 points over 3 months

You might want to look into your Iron/Ferritin levels. I've had low Vitamin D for years and it never improved until I started supplementing with Iron. My levels still aren't ideal but I'm working on it.

I read last week that Vitamin D3 needs to be taken with Vitamin K2 in order to work properly. If you don't take K2 with the D3, the D3 causes calcium build up in your blood. Don't quote me on that - but I think that's what I read. Look it up.

I’ve been on 20,000 mg daily for years. (Under doctors supervision and frequent blood tests).
It used to be more for a short time, but this is what I need to take just to keep my levels at a minimum.

My doctor and I have had a lot of talks about this. So yes we talk.
I have been on 10,000 - 15,000 Vit D with even going higher and no changes.
He is fully aware of this. And isn't sure what else to do, thus why I came here.
We have tried different versions and combos of going higher then medium then higher then lower and other combos.
All of my other labs are on point. I had several additional labs done as I am no longer eating meat.
It's to the point where nothing is working and I wanted to see what other peas have had to do to get it up and if they were successful.
I walk and ride horses to work out. I can't work out at the gym or 1. I will faint from tachy episodes, and 2. My joints will be in severe pain and could dislocated or sublex. I have EDS like I said.

How’s your gut health?
I know my levels got much better when I eliminated wheat (allergic).

Do you take the supplements with food? Vit D is fat soluble. When I began taking 5K with the morning and evening meal, my D levels raised significantly.
Good luck finding a solution.
