I’ve sorted all the documents, but haven’t started filing yet. As we always pay, I see no reason to be in a hurry.
I was elected the treasurer for our HOA in January and named as a special tax commissioner for our county as they collect our HOA fees as part of our county taxes. I have to file the budget with the county for the next fiscal year by April 1st and then file state & federal taxes for the HOA. Why in the hell did I agree to do this? Ugh.

We used to file super early, as I really wanted to know if we owed or not. We've paid a professional to do them for years and as far as I'm concerned it's money well spent. We've developed a relationship with her and I know, when things happen, I can email or contact her with questions and she always has a friendly reply.
Since inheriting some stock and a mutual fund account our filing date has gotten pushed later and later as I've had to wait for forms. Drives me nuts as we do usually get a refund and I like to get it done before the rush.
Our big score this year was DH is finally with an employer that withholds enough to MO. He lost his job in mid 2020, and when we filed for that year his new employer had withheld more in the 3 months he worked for them then his previous employer had withheld in the 6 months he was with them! We used to owe thousands and it would kill me every year. I'm so happy to just be breaking even with them now.

I still haven't done ours. We usually end up paying and I know this year will be no different so I wait until the last minute. Total denial...I know.

Haven’t even started yet.
Sadly, I am known in my circles for being that person that was standing in line at the post office to get them post marked on the last day at the last hour back in the olden days before online filing was around. 😬😄 . The last couple of years I did much better and got them in earlier than normal. I seem to have regressed this year. It is on the to do list but really needs to get done.

I've been fighting with ours on and off all week. I've always done my own - starting back with the 1040EZ when I was a teen - and only switched from paper to online several years ago. They've steadily gotten a bit more complicated but until this year, I've managed to keep up. I was trying to do the freefile on the irs website but ran into a section I wasn't really understanding (more on my paperwork end) and have switched to Turbo Tax although I hate having to pay.
Last year I printed and mailed but I'm hoping to efile this year since it's been strongly pushed.

Uggg....I did mine over the weekend. We've owed the last few years, but I screwed myself by not opting out of the child credit thing they payed out last year. I owe over $5K and an underpayment penalty. I don't have an issue paying it back...but I'm pissed that I owe a penalty because they sent it to me.

I think more people will be caught like that this year than know it at this point.

What is wrong with waiting?
Sure, if you are getting money back, I can understand doing them ASAP, but as long as they are done by the deadline, why is that viewed as a bad thing?
We don't get one of our tax documents until late March so it isn't even on my radar to do them earlier.

Ours will be filed today. I kept procrastinating setting up sn account snd starting an IRA. Used to do at our credit union but decided to switch snd it had more hoops than I was expecting but it went through this morning so they can be filed today.

We don't get one of our tax documents until late March so it isn't even on my radar to do them earlier. Obviously nothing is wrong with it in my book, and I have always gotten a refund. 😆. However from the words of my parents over the years (although it has gotten easier and easier to wait until the last minute and refute all their “what ifs” with most things being retrievable online) 😉😆: why procrastinate, get it done. what happens if something unexpected happens and you can’t get them done in time or it adds stress. What if they never receive them or there are acceptance issues and you don’t give yourself enough time to correct. What happens if you find out you are missing something and need to request something from someplace.

We haven't done ours yet. I know we owe a bunch (DH won in Las Vegas several times and it all added up to way more than I thought) so I am not in a big hurry. They will get done but I won't write the check until the absolutely last minuet.

I took my paperwork in last week. He said it would probably be a couple weeks. My siblings and I sold the family farmland and my mom's final estate/trust taxes have to be finished so he can generate some of the paperwork we all need in order to get ours done. I know I’m going to owe a chunk so I guess there’s no hurry, and I’d rather not have to file an amended return or an extension. He did say he was almost done with mom's stuff, but he said that more than once to my sister, who was the executor.

My DH waits until the last minute every year. He does them himself and with TurboTax it is so easy but he always puts it off. So yeah he hasn't even thought about it. Mine too and it stresses me out every year. Uggghh.

This is the first year we've waited this long, too. I literally just got back from dropping everything off at the CPA. In our defense, 2021 was a year of firsts for us and I wasn't about to touch them myself. Son received full scholarships and tax forms for them, I did tons of extra work - both 1099 and W2s from various businesses for the first time ever, we sold our home, changed our domicile state to Florida, live in our motorhome full time, bought an RV lot. Ugh, I felt so bad for the CPA - I should have brought her some fancy coffee and pastries. I am such a pain! lol

Mine are not done yet, but whatever refund we MIGHT get will go right back to the IRS since I am paying last year's taxes... Other than messing up royally one year we have always gotten a refund.
The last few years NADA... I keep adjusting our withdrawals so hopefully this year at least we can pay off the rest of last year.. which is almost paid off.
My old company (tax firm) does them for me for free so I don't feel like I can rush it.. lol

My DH prides himself on waiting until the deadline. I didn't realize that you could get them done for free if you're 55 and a member of AARP. I'm in AARP, but not 55 yet. I will happily turn over the reins if I can jerk them away from DH. He stresses me out. I didn't know this either.. DH just hit 55 this year.. but I'm not.. I wonder if they would still do them? I'll be 54 this year.

We’re supposed to have ours done, but my husband is arguing something on it with our tax professional so we still haven’t finished 🙄. I don’t think he’s going to win. We owe a big amount and I just want to get it paid and over with.
Next year should be so, so simple. I’m actually looking forward to it…

I have everything sorted but we need to sit down and do them. We owed a stupid amount last year because my employer (school district) entered one number wrong and not enough was taken out. We of course were 4 months into the year last year until we figured out the mistake so we’ve had extra taken out in hopes that we won’t be in the same boat. You would think we would be on top of it…but we aren’t.

If it makes you feel any better, last year I finally got around to doing the last FOUR years worth of tax returns for DSO and I. My record is seven years. The ATO threatened to fine me that time, but they kindly let me off. Our financial year runs from 1st July to 30th June. If it weren't for DSO, I would have mine lodged on 1st July every year. But he always drags his feet, and I can't lodge mine until his is ready. ETA: The Australian system is obviously quite different to the American system.

This was the latest I can remember getting mine done. My accountant filed them yesterday. There is no way I can do my own taxes right now. DH had a small business for his consulting work, so I had to close that and file tax paperwork even though he didn't have any income last year. He also inherited IRAs from his mom that had to have RMD made and taxes paid. Next year I'll have a house sale and purchase to complicate things.
My CPA is worth every penny.
