I'd really focus having a purpose for writing and his story. Thank you for the tips. He has lost all the joy of learning anymore, which is one of the big reasons we decided to pull him. I *think* I can help him find some of that again, or at least, I will certainly be trying. All I've ever wanted for my kids is to think learning is good, because then they'll keep learning. It's not a race. He is such a smart, bright kid, but isn't super motivated. Some of that is his age, some of it is that he is athletic and has bought into that underperforming jock stereotype, some of it is that he isn't inclined to push himself in academics, but a whole lot of it is that no one has really gotten him to care about what he's learning. I'm hoping I can help him see that even if some of the everyday learning isn't exciting, it's key to learning the things he DOES care about. And even if I don't do that, I'll help him fill some gaps at least.
