I organize primarily by brand, but also have separated out Christmas, fall/Halloween and the two sports my kids play.

I am definitely an "other", I don't organise my patterned paper at all.

I guess theme? The paper stays together in the collection if there are enough sheets and then it goes into one of the few large themes I have. I'm not super particular with it as I don't have much. It all fits in one regular 12x12 shipping box (you know, about double the volume of a pizza box). Some sheets just hang around together at the back of the stack, no particular rhyme or reason.

I store my paper by collection and brand. Each collection goes in a plastic paper holder (enclosed folder). They are then alphabetized by brand and collection. Then on the outside of each plastic folder I have washi tape strips for different categories… summer, winter, family, daughter/girls, son/boys, Christmas, birthday, neutral, etc. I have about ten categories. This way I can locate by theme or brand/collection.

I have a drawer for Christmas, then a larger drawer with patterned papers stored by color, and then solids in another smaller drawer by color. I also store my journaling cards by size and then by color. The exceptions being that I keep B+W cards and super colorful cards or foiled cards separate from the rest. They're also all stored ROYGBIV, or in scrapbooking terms: ALLTHEPINK, Reds that are mostly not the red I need, orange, all the yellows, smattering of green - but not THE green, blues, aquas and teals, 3 sheets of purple the industry allows to be made, browns, blacks, greys, cream - because why not, and 75 different whites.

Definately theme, however stacks of my paper don't fit a theme, haven't been organized or there is no room.

almost all of my paper and cardstock is by colour. Christmas paper is in the Christmas drawer and very specific (couldn't really be used for anything else - like Jack O'lanterns) is stired in the theme folders. I've started keeping collection kits intact until I've used the majority (and then the leftovers are sorted by colour) and I have two paper pads that I'm keeping together until I've used more of them.

Mostly by theme, outside of themes it’s by color.

Mostly by theme, but some by mfg. I have separate artbin totes for OA, Echo Park/Carta Bella, and Basic Grey. Great question that always sparks inspiration - now I'm wanting to go through my paper and re-think things!

Theme or color, it depends on the paper.

I mostly sort by brand because that is the way my mind thinks of the papers. I worked in a scrapbook store for a couple of years and that just became the way to do it. I do have a few separate themes because they are very specific. Christmas, Fall/Halloween, Baby, Pool/Billiards and Golf. 12x12 Cardstock is by color. 8.5x11 is in a basket. I should sort it by color I suppose. I usually only use that for card making so I just grab it as I want it.

I keep collections together and sort by theme into bins. Within the theme, they’re organized alphabetically by manufacturer. Some manufacturers have collections from different years that work together, so it’s helpful to keep them together by manufacturer.
I do have a few bins of manufacturers, mostly older ones like Basic Grey and OA.

It depends. As a card maker. 8.5x11 is by ROGBIV/neutrals/specialty, and second by type. Right now a bunch of subtly pearlized CS is also by color but separate from regular CS. That may change, but I’d have to do some rearranging.
12x12 Patterned paper is partly by light/medium/dark with exceptions by theme: holiday, animals, birds. I may change the light/medium/dark section but I don’t have tons—one rolling Advantus cart—so it doesn’t matter that much.
The cart also has some solid color 12x12 which is RGBIV/neutrals/specialty.

I keep collections together, so by manufacturer. Then the collections are stored by theme. The only exception is when different lines from one manufacturer go together, like most of Vicki Boutin's lines can be mixed together. Then Vicki Boutin is my theme.

I answered by color, but that mainly applies to cardstock. My patterned paper is partly by theme and partly by color. I just sorted all my CS to re-organize it on my new bookshelves, so now ALL CS is sorted by color, both 8.5x11 and 12x12. I originally organized it by color on my old bookshelves, but it got disordered over the years as I used some up & bought more. That was especially true for the 12x12 CS, which had morphed into a disorganized mess - I had those 75 different whites/creams/ivories mentioned by dawnnikol spread out amongst 4 different cropper hoppers! So I invested in a few more storage containers (cropper hopper style) and spent several hours getting it all into ROYGBIV order, with special (very small) sections for metallic/foil, shimmer, & glitter paper. (Only have a few of those, mostly for Christmas.) Side note: I have no idea why on God's green earth I have approximately eleventy billion sheets of orange CS! Plus waaaaay more purple that I will ever use! ( dawnnikol I will be happy to send you some purple, LOL!) I rarely use either of those colors so will most likely be donating a stack of these. Most of my patterned paper is sorted by theme, with a few collections stored together since they'll most likely be used that way.

Color for most. I have a couple theme sections and a few by brand.

Other? It's half and half and another half for me. A dozen manufacturers, a handful of themes, and the rest by color. I'm non-committal, but I like to think it works for me

While I have designated places for themes, I also have a large bin that holds collections that don't really fit into any of my themes. Floral and pretty papers go there, water-colour-look papers, some designers such as Vicki Boutin and Jen Hadfield that I think of by designer rather than theme or colour, Pinkfresh papers, some small themes (like ER visits/medical) that don't fit with anything else. My cs is sorted by colour and some papers wind up in that drawer b/c I think of them by colour rather than theme or motif.

The majority of mine is by theme, and within that by collection/manu, but whatever doesn’t fit in a theme is stored by color.

I said theme, but in that category, I keep each manufacturer and line together. I am pretty good at remembering what I have and if I have a theme to visit, I can usually find my paper quickly. I have a few like Home, Life, and Random that I can confuse though.

Most of mine is organized by brand or by kit. I have my ScrapRoom kits together and I keep my other kits (Kelly Purkey, Not Just For Boys, etc.) together.
My cardstock is sorted by color regardless of brand or texture. I usually pull cardstock out of my kits and keep all of that together in one place.
That’s how my brain works. I’ve found that I rarely use the cardstock that comes with kits and I end up finding another color that works for me with the kit.
My paper is also by size. I have mostly 12x12 that’s in one place. My 8.5x11 is kept together in another place and them my 6x6, 6x8, 8x8 and other small sizes are together. I don’t have very much that isn’t 12x12 though, so the others are pretty easy to store in a bin on the shelf above the 12x12 stuff. .

I sort by brand / manufacturer because they all have a certain “feel” to them and when I want a particular look, I know where to go.
I also know Echo Park is great for B sides, so when I’m looking for coordinating colors, it’s easy to grab the Echo Park section.
That being said, Disney, Christmas, and Marines all have their own section.
Cardstock is ROYGBIV.
Specialty is sorted by type. (Glitter, acetate, fabric, vellum, mulberry, etc)

I chose "other".
If the paper is themed, it goes in that themes 13 x 13 storage envelope. I organize by color. Multiple colors are organized by pattern (stripe, watercolor, polkadot, grunge, brick, floral, plaid, wood, miscellaneous, etc...).
I have a few (no longer made) brands that I keep organized by brand >>> Basic Grey, Daisy D's, Rusty Pickle, etc... because that helps me monitor my dwindling inventory. I am more selective about when and if I use it. I like to see at a glance, what I still have.

Patterned paper is by theme. I have a "general feminine" and "general masculine" category to house some collections that aren't exactly themed but lean one way or the other color or mood wise. I have a paper pad that is sort of mixed media/watercolor looking, and the colors are bright and summery, so that gets stored in with summer papers.
For one off papers, those are sorted ROYGBIV. Same for cardstock, sorted by color.
Scraps that aren't part of a collection get tossed in a 12x12 box, which if I'm honest, is where they go to die. 😂

Thanks for sharing. It's interesting to read our similar & different approaches to organizing paper. Personally, I organize all paper (except scraps) primarily by manufacturer. Some manufacturers are further subdivided or sorted, such as Bazzill by texture then loosely by color. I am definitely an "other", I don't organise my patterned paper at all. WARNING: you're missing out on arguably the most fun aspect of this hobby. Paper is my favorite & most abundant/used supply, & its organization may be my favorite task! ... Accurate! Other? It's half and half and another half for me. A dozen manufacturers, a handful of themes, and the rest by color. I'm non-committal, but I like to think it works for me That's all that matters...
