What would be your reaction?
Me: meh, it is a lizard. I'd try to catch it and release it outside.
My grandniece (age 21): Help!! Help!! Which exterminator do I call?
her mother: Wash ALL the clothes in the room! The lizard might have touched them. Call and exterminator!! Now!!
The grandniece is staying in my sister's home (her grandmother) while grandmother is away. The call went to my sister this morning. My sister told them to calm down and she would handle the lizard situation when she returned on Saturday.
ETA: it is probably an anole. They are frequently hanging around at this time of the year. They are about 4-5 inches long.

They do occasionally come inside, but if they're inside all the time, there probably is an insect problem (they're there to eat the bugs, so they're actually helping).
I love the little guys but when my cats catch them, it usually doesn't go well for the little devils.
I certainly would not freak out about it. They're on my deck and in my outside plants, doing the Lord's work eating all the disgusting Georgia bugs.
There was a 4 ft rat snake in my yard this weekend and I was thinking how if he was smart he wouldn't go into anyone else's yard or they'd probably kill him, when he's actually doing us a favor taking care of the rodents. I let him slither on about his business. I read they are good for keeping copperheads at bay too, though I'm not sure if that's true.
Cats are kind of nature's exterminator, so I've only ever needed to contact one for an ant problem.

Catch him and take him outside.
Our cats love to chase them; we find a lot of tailless or chewed up ones in our house but will do our best to catch and save them.
Unfortunately they scoot really fast, run behind furniture, etc so we aren’t always able to save them.
Don’t call an exterminator!

I figured if an exterminator was called, the man would laugh --and come to take the money!
I'd never even think to call an exterminator about a lizard, for goodness sake!

Poor little harmless thing. I just love how so many people’s first reaction to what they don’t understand or like is to kill. And little kids, who are easy to teach to be curious and in awe of nature and to respect living things get taught to be afraid and kill too, instead of learning how bugs and animals all fit into important slots in nature. It just hurts my heart.
Like with the black rat snake (which some people call black snakes). Just wants to be left alone, and there was chaos in a neighborhood with people trying to kill him with a shovel instead of just heading him away from the house. Our suburban DC area community in VA has lots of natural areas, woods, ponds and little lakes, and sometimes I feel like asking why the heck people moved here if they want pristine. The entire community is a Natural Wildlife Federation certified wildlife habitat due to enough home and business owners and the homeowner’s association getting certified (we did).
And yes, we catch spiders and put them outside using our highly sophisticated spider catching kit: a large plastic glass and thin piece of cardboard.

I had it happen recently. I would normally catch it and release it back outside, but my cat Milo got to it first and it ended in tragedy. 😞

I would not call an exterminator or freak out and I’ll not say what I think about people who would default to killing an animal that’s doing no harm.

My mom lives in FL and those little green lizards are always getting in the house...she is a bit scared of them, but they don't bother me a bit, I just pick them up and take them outside. They are kind of cute to me.

If we could catch it, I’d put it outside. Those little anoles are speedy, though!

I love lizards! We have tons of them in our garden. I love to sit and watch them doing push-ups in the sun. They aren't afraid of us at. They will crawl right up on my shoe or follow me around. We don't have any bug problems in the garden as those little suckers police the entire back yard. For a while I thought that I must have mice as I was finding mouse turds on the patio. Turns out it is lizard turds. For little bitty critters they sure do poop big.

My YDS would try and catch it and wear it as an earring. Or he did when he was 8.
It wouldn't be a big thing to us. DH is a FL native and is used to them. We lived there for 5 yrs and now have them here at our house. As a matter of fact, just saw one of ours Monday afternoon. All outside though. We have 3 pups inside, I would hope the lizards would be smarter than to come inside.

me? Catch it and put it outside. Yes, I will catch it with my bare hands. I catch 4 line skinks, alligator lizards, salamanders, frogs, etc here all the time and help them outside.
My neighbor teacher? Scream and freak out, tell a student to run next-door to get the teacher (Me) to help them with it, then proceed to evacuate the classroom to keep the students safe. After all students are out (and before I get in there), smash it with my foot because it might be poisonous (her words). It was a BABY ALLIGATOR LIZARD. WTF? I was flabbergasted. My kids all thought it was funny that she lost her shit over a baby (like 2" long) alligator lizard. BTW- we live in CA, there are no venomous lizards here.

They are kind of cute to me. Me too. When I was a kid pet stores sold them as chameleons, though they’re anoles. At least they looked just the same. I had one who liked his neck/throat scratched like for dogs and cats. And he’d nap on my hand because of the warmth. He got a growth over an eye and my father took him to our veterinarian, exclaiming that he couldn’t believe he was taking a 79 cent lizard to the vet.

I love them. I would definitely rescue it. I would let it hang out with me in the AC, except my dog would lose her mind. They are everywhere here. I hope I see them in CA, too.
ETA: A few years ago there was a little brown baby lizard in the shower with me. I just talked to it while I washed my hair. Came back after work and he was gone. Now—had it been a roach (which I occasionally find in my shower)….I would have screamed, running from the house and made somebody else come back and KILL that sucker….

Do they climb on the screening in Florida? Yes, sometimes. We mostly see them on the plants that are sitting on the porch, on the outdoor window sills and they LOVE to get under the cushions on the porch and porch swings...before anyone sits down, we always lift up the cushions so the lizards can scurry away.

I had two different lizards as pets when I was a kid. One of them I caught in the desert and the other one my dad bought for me at the Pomona Fair. They had them with collars, a short chain and a safety pin so that you could wear them as a pendant.

usually when I find them in my house, it's because I hear Pad-Bear (1yr old orange kitty) growling and realise she's carrying it around in her mouth, dropping it, petting it, picking it back up - rinse, lather, and repeat. My job is to get it away from her and take it outside to hopefully survive another day.

My son went through a lizard stage when he was young and he had one of these as a pet in a big glass aquarium. If I found one of these in my home now, I would pick it up and put it outside. I do have tons of lizards in my yard. I did have one find its way into the family room once. I just cornered it, picked it up, and put it back outside. I really like lizards. They control the bugs and spiders. I can't walk from my front door to my car without seeing at least two or three running across my path. There is one doing pushups on the top of the brickwork on my planter right this minute.

I would open the doors and try corral it outside. And hope the pup doesn't see the poor thing because she goes after them in the yard and occasionally gets lucky.
I only call pest control for termites who are trying to eat my house.

I would not call an exterminator or freak out and I’ll not say what I think about people who would default to killing an animal that’s doing no harm. Never read my local NextDoor pages. There is post after post after post about various harmless snakes, insects, reptiles, foxes, vultures, etc., and the responses always contain a hefty dose of “kill it!!!!!!” or “call an exterminator!” I hate it. librarylady, I’d love to find one of those - inside or outside my house. We have tons of blue-tailed skinks here. I love seeing them this time of year. I’ve never had one in the house, but certainly wouldn’t panic if I did.

I’d be out of the house asking a neighbor for help!
I had a praying mantis on my living room curtains one day and my DH wasn’t home. Out the door I went to find a neighbor for help!

It’s too cold for lizards where I live so I wouldn’t ever find a rando hanging out in my house. But if I was at my brother’s house and saw one running loose I would tell him his pet got out of its cage again! If there was a snake loose in my house though, I’d napalm the whole damn place!
