while I was thinking about my answer, I was wondering what others would say 🤔
If someone gave you a box that contained everything you ever lost in life, what is the first thing you would look for?

The little 4 inch bear with moveable arms and legs from my nana. I loved him so much. I have next to nothing left from my childhood.

It's probably odd that my first impulse would be to hand the box back, unopened. Granted, I've never lost a child - that would change everything.

When I was pregnant with my oldest DD (she is 17 now), I was living on the other side of the planet from my family. I had a strong connection to my grandmother, and was naming my baby after her. My sister filmed out grandmother, sort of like an interview, asking a lot of questions about how she felt about the baby coming, how she felt about the baby having her name and other things. My sister sends me the video in the mail, and while it's in transit my grandmother passes away. And the tape never made it to me. The package containing babyclothes and my grandmothers thoughts on my baby has been lost since. I gave birth five days after she passed. There is nothing I wouldn't give to watch that tape! Even once! This was in 2005, and filmed with a camcorder on a tape, so no copies. She came to me in a dream a few years later, and we've talked, so that gives me some peace 😊

My engagement ring, from my husband of 54 years. I have no idea what happened to it.

Honestly, there's a checkbook somewhere in my office that went missing a few weeks ago. I know it's in here but I put it someplace stupid and can't find it. Otherwise, I can't think of any precious tangible item that I lost.

The first thing that comes to mind is my wedding negatives. Unless my mother-in-law has them (she says she does not) I don't know what happened to them. I've scanned the photos from photos as a back up, but they'd look nicer as prints from the negatives...

A set of keys, years ago I walked to the local corner store. When I left my apartment I had my keys in my hand, when I returned I no longer had them. I retraced my steps back to the store and looked everywhere. The store clerk even helped. I never found those keys and to this day I wonder what the heck happened. This happened around 1979. I was able to get another key to my apartment from the manager. I had to have my (then BF) take the ignition out of my car and then take it to a locksmith to have a new key made.
Current day- I would love to know where my firestick remote is, those things are so small- I have now lost 2, or should I say my darling Grandkids have lost 2.

My honeymoon photos. One of them was topless. I picked them up from the developer. Then we were meeting with friends so I stuck the pack under the car’s floor mat. Then forgot about them until about 3 days later but when I looked under the mat they were gone. This was in 1996.

My grandmother's diamond cocktail rings Until this, I couldn't really think of anything. But I DID manage to lose my own grandmother's bracelet. It was a gold band with a clasp and had a diamond and two pearls set on it. I was too young to have been given it, but managed to keep track of it, wore it to my wedding, and then *I think* put it into an unlocked wooden jewelry box.
Didn't think of it again, other than *know* it was there. It was not something she ever wore that I remember. And I am not someone who wears alot of jewelry. In fact I had to quit wearing my wedding rings b/c the gold irritated my hand so much. But when we were packing up to move several years and four kids later, it was gone. Have not seen it since.

A delicate gold “ID” bracelet that I lost on the track at my high school in 1979. II said “Sweet 16” on one side and “#1” on the other. It was a birthday gift from my parents. I had broken 2 school records in track that year (that was the reason for #1)

I wonder if the poster had read the book--or seen the movie--The Christmas Pig. It is a J.K. Rowling book about a boy who was transported in a dream (or magically?) to The Land of the Lost, where all things ever left behind still reside.

Weird that I can’t really think of anything. I’ve lost various pieces of jewelry over the years - including the necklace my parents gave me for graduation and a gold necklace from my grandmother - but I actually think those were stolen out of my dorm room.

My beloved dogs.
This makes me think of the Mary Poppins Returns song “ The Place Where Lost Things Go”.
Do you ever dream Or reminisce? Wondering where to find What you truly miss Well maybe all those things That you love so Are waiting in the place Where the lost things go
Nothing's really left Or lost without a trace Nothing's gone forever Only out of place
Maybe all you're missing lives inside of you.

Not lost as in misplaced, but 'lost' to me now as they were sold.
My mama had an extensive set of Johnson Brothers "Friendly Village" dishes. Probably two dozen place settings plus just about every serving pieces and accessory that went with it. Those were our everyday dishes growing up. When she and my daddy moved from the house to a retirement condo, she wanted new dishes and picked a pretty blue Mikasa pattern. She tried and tried to get me to keep the Johnson Bros but I was tired of them and adamant that I'd "never want those old dishes." Well flash forward thirty years... I sure do wish I had those old dishes.

Thing: My Pentax DSLR that has the memory card with my DD's baby pictures on it (I'm missing October thru January of her 2nd year). I had it at a friends house and no idea where it went after that. Friends say it wasn't left there but that's the last time I remember having it. It's vanished into thin air.
People: My nana. She'd LOVE my kids!

What an interesting question! I don't think there are any items that I would especially be bothered about, I would like to see people and pets again.

A digital video camera. I never downloaded any of the content. I’m not sure how I could have lost anything that large and really bummed as it mostly has memories from when my son was a baby.

My grandmother's jewelry that my mom gave me. It was supposed to go to my oldest daughter. We were going to make a ring out of the various pieces we got. I took it to a jewelry store and they were very helpful and so I put the jewelry in my purse in a side pocket. Totally forgot it was there. The purse then broke (the handle). I gave the purse to my littlest at the time. It sat in her toy box for a year and I just tossed it. Didn't even think to check the pockets which I am really anal about. The VERY next day it came to me that the jewelry was probably still in that purse. It was gone. At least I think it is. I still have major guilt over it and haven't told my mom. I can't bring myself to tell her.
