I had reactions to both. Fever, chills, body aches, headache, etc. But they only lasted a day or so. Totally worth a day or so of feeling bad to avoid shingles. And you may not have any reaction.

Both for me. 101-102 degree fever for 2 days each time. Felt awful. Then as if nothing happened on day 3. Still much better than shingles. Which I have had 3 times. Well, that's awful. Did you have it before or after the shot, or both? Really debating about this shot--makes you feel terrible, but still doesn't prevent it, isn't very encouraging. I had shingles twice before I got the shots. Once on my face. I still have lasting nerve damage from that bout. The shingles shots are one of the most effective vaccines on the planet - 95% over 10 years. That said, I am one of those very rare people who managed to get a case afterwards. Shingles is awful!

This is great timing, because I need to get mine scheduled as well. I also need to get my Covid booster, which I’m avoiding along with the shingles vaccine, because I know I’m going to feel lousy for a day or two afterwards. For my first 2 COVID vaccines I had a fever for a day afterwards - I know this one will be the same.

My prescription for the vaccine is currently sitting in my purse. I don’t get fevers (like, ever) but I’m just recovering from my COVID booster so I’ll give myself another week before I have to deal with body aches again.

I'm severely immune compromised and I need to get shingles, pneumonia, COVID booster #2 however I have to wait until my steroid dosage is lower. This sucks.

If you know anyone who is immunocompromised, please have them check with their doctor to see if you need to stay away from them. Why? What FACT is that based on? The Shingrix vaccine is an inactivated (dead) virus therefore you cannot get chicken pox from the vaccine. There are very few vaccines these days that use a live virus...and even then it is an attenuated (weakened) version. Immunocompromised people should be getting vaccinated - that's what protects them, so they probably already had the chicken pox vaccination anyway and they themselves ARE eligible for the Shingrix vaccine. From the CDC: Adults 19 years and older who have weakened immune systems because of disease or therapy should also get two doses of Shingrix, as they have a higher risk of getting shingles and related complications. From the Mayo clinic website: ...there are no documented cases of the varicella-zoster virus being transmitted from adults vaccinated with the shingles vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). According to the CDC, in normal circumstances it's unnecessary to avoid pregnant women and unvaccinated children after you get the shingles vaccine. However, if you are vaccinated with Zostavax and develop a rash, take the precaution of keeping it covered until all the bumps crust over. If you don't know something is factual - then look it up before posting some fear mongering statement. She said check, which is a far cry from fear mongering.

Maybe you need to step back from the boards if you cannot formulate a civil response to the simplest posts.

First one was fine. Second one I was down for 4 days. Had a fever and bad nausea. Way worse than the 2nd covid shot.

Just had my first one yesterday. I of course didn't think about it, but it was in the arm that I sleep on that side, didn't sleep a wink last night! I have never had an arm as sore as this is right now. Forget lifting it very high. I never expected this kind of pain. But generally everything else has been ok.

I need to get mine. I get viral labyrinthitis really bad that is caused by the chicken pox virus. My doctor thinks that this might help. I've also had chicken pox twice, so this needs to happen soon. My problem is that I don't have a PCP (haven't had one for 13 years) and my pharmacy benefits don't cover shingrix. Going to wait until October when I get my annual physical.
But to answer the OP, i haven't had mine yet, but my mom said she only felt bad for a couple of days after the 2nd shot.

Got mine a couple years ago. No reaction to first shot. Down and out after the second. Fever, flu-like symptoms but only overnight.

Ugh, I keep putting it off. I shouldn't as I've known several people who have had shingles, and in their 30's and 40's even!

I had chicken pox as a kid, but only a few. In the Army, in Germany, at 20 years old, I got chicken pox again. That time I got 25-30 spots. I saw a German doctor who have me a chicken pox vaccine that was already available there - many many years before it was available in the U.S. Then I got the Zostavax several years ago about a month before the Shingrix vaccines came out. November last year my Dr asked me to go ahead and get the Shingrix and I did. I had very mild soreness. I did not get my 2nd shot, because right after the first one, I found myself taking care of my mil for 6 months as she recovered from a broken back and I forgot to get my 2nd shot. My Dr suggested I might be starting over with the Shingrix. 😖 Other than my covid vaccines and boosters this is the only vaccines I've had since childhood due to confusion about whether or not I should be vaccinated.
I also had very mild reactions to my covid shots.

I had no reaction at all to either of my shingles shots, nor did my husband. Neither of us had any reaction to our Covid vacs or the booster either.🤷♀️ This is my DH and I also. Except we haven’t gotten the 2nd one yet. I consider us very lucky.

No, they do not need to check - that's the point and suggesting they do is completely false... you have to ability to search before YOU post rubbish. If you can't be bothered with a simple fact check before you post - perhaps you are the one who needs to step away until you learn how to do that.

My bf (almost 64) had Shingles a few years ago.
Recently, he got his first shot but unknown at the time, he also had Covid. Not sure if that's the reason but he bruised badly on his inner, upper arm. He is due for the next one now so hopefully he doesn't have any side effects this time.

Shingrix is not live virus, so I was able to get both shots even with DH being immunocompromised.
I had a mildly sore arm, nothing more.

I didn’t even think about it. I was originally going to do it last week along with my tetanus shot but just didn’t want to leave the house in Friday lol. Waiting a few more weeks won’t make that much difference.

I cannot wait to get my shingles vaccine. I was super sick with chicken pox and I don’t want to risk shingles.
The Covid shots have ALL made me sick with 100-101 fever and major body aches for 3 days each time.
