This challenge is for those who scrap slowly and need encouragement to keep scrapping all month or those who want a little encouragement to continue scrapping. It is great for those new to Challenges and is a fun place to come chat with other Pokey scrappers. 1. Post a layout each week, or four layouts per month. These can be posted in the thread or in the gallery. If you post in the gallery, be sure to come to the thread and tell us you posted and tell us the name of the layout so we can find it. You can copy the URL from the gallery and paste it directly into your thread for a link. 2. This challenge can be combined with any other challenges and can be paper, digital or hybrid scrapping. These can be cards, layouts or altered items or any other creative projects. 3. Please comment on the work of others on the thread as your time allows. We all love comments on our layouts. 4. Have fun with this! This should be a "no pressure" challenge. Just post what you finish whether it is one layout or more than four. Come chat with the group as time permits. We love to welcome new members . If you are doing the Team Challenges, this challenge is worth one point for each page/project when you complete all 4. So that's 4 points for completing the Pokey Pea Challenge.

Good August morning to you, Pokeys. Thanks, nylene for setting this up. I need to go through the last of the July thread and will put my responses here. This week, I am on grandparent duty so not sure how much time or brain power I will have before Sunday.

gramma , I am amazed at your cards. Those layered cakes are so cute in both the pink and purple. The elephants are so sweet. You always have the perfect background papers. Where do you find your small prints that aren’t 6x6 pads? I find that most of my papers have prints too big for cards. That lion, with the play on words is delightful. You find the cutest critters and designs. The plaids are beautiful behind him. Such cute bunnies and I love that sentiment. The design on the little mousie card is one of my favorites. You really did it justice! Lovely cards and such a sweet donation. MARIBETHR , I love the grid designs of your graduation cards with the grad hat in the center. Beautiful photos! The design on the guitar page is so striking. Looks like a page from a magazine. I will look closer in the gallery. I really like the variety of photos and poses of his Senior photos. What a nice looking young man? Does he have college plans? grammadee , have a good week on gramma duty. I'm sure you can find lots to do. DH taught Alex to use the bandsaw (with his constant supervision) and he cut the design for his Pinewood Derby. He loved cutting and I think DH will teach him to use the smaller scroll saw one day this week. I think we will then have him even more often. I hate to see school start in a couple of weeks. We haven't had enough good times yet. Have a great week everyone. It's hot here, but we may have a few days with late evening showers. They don't put down much water, but cool it off and add some humidity. ETA: I meant to reply to you joyfulnana. I think it's fine to have a fallow year. You know it gives soil a rest and it grows better the next year. Maybe you just need a rest year after some crazy Covid years. Don't beat yourself up! Just keep coming here to visit. Linda, I hope you are turning the corner and not starting over again with your "bug". I wonder if there are Covid variations that haven't been identified yet, that the currents tests don't identify? Hang in there. You are in my prayers.

Happy August! Waving hi and hope you all had a nice weekend. We didn't do much. Just a little shopping and relaxing. We went to Five Guys on Saturday night and it was so good. Especially the fries. Today, I worked on new art and have a virtual M's art class at 5pm. I love sitting in on those classes. nylene- Thanks for our new thread. You really keep us going! Hugs! linda- Hope you are continuing to feel better. Take it easy! gramma- Your cards are so beautiful! Great job! maribeth- What lovely pages about your dgd. I know you must of felt such joy creating pages about her. They grow up so fast. grammadee- Have fun with your family!

MARIBETHR, I apologize thinking your granddaughter was a grandson. I am sorry. I hadn't looked at the pages up close in the gallery and made an assumption. I hope she enjoys the local college and gets the education she wants to work with children. Please forgive me.

Happy Wednesday! I took these pictures a few weeks ago while I was walking. I had an idea to take a few pictures of some the plants and images I saw while taking my walk. I cropped the pictures and made this collage. Looks kind of cool! Sites While Walking by Kelly Roberts, on Flickr

Still haven't caught up here from the last week in July.
Dgs is here until tomorrow when I drive him home in time for supper. I will stay the night, then hit WalMart to print my photos from the past 3 weeks and Costco, and then back home.
Hope to catch up with you Pokeys after I have returned and had a L-O-N-G sleep...

kellyr21 - LOVE the photo collage! grammadee - safe travels I'm feeling almost back to normal, I think, finally. Still coughing some though. My washer is still broken - DH finally called the repairman yesterday - he said he would try and fit us in this morning but apparently wasn't able to. Guess it'll be the laundramat on Saturday for me. Summer is pretty much over for us - D15's Girl Scout troop starts up this Sunday and then Wednesday is back to school. It'll be a busy week with 2 PT visits, an MRI, orientation, Academic team practise, and a dr visit -all for DD - plus a dr visit for me. I did get back to scrapping finally. Working on some 2008 photos from when we first moved into the old house.

kellyr21 , I love your collage of sights from your walk. I love the close ups that show the various textures of everything. What do you plan to do with it? frame it? Very pretty. I would like to see what else you are doing. grammadee , I hope you are getting some good zzzzzzz's. Sounds like you need it. Linda , I'm glad you are feeling somewhat better. You have really had a tough BUG. I can't believe it is time for school again already. Your week of appts. doesn't sound fun. I hope everything goes as planned and that you don't have to do a lot of sitting in waiting rooms. We saw DH's super surgeon yesterday. It sounds like this will be a much bigger procedure to remove the cancer than we were hoping. It will probably involve a skin graft and maybe having that eyelid sewn shut for a week. The cancer has lots of little fingers growing from it so it may involve a bigger area than originally thought. One of my concerns is keeping him quiet and doing nothing for a week afterward. No work, no shop, just rest. I have talked him into recording his life story during that week. The kids are all excited about having him do that. Em gave us booklets asking questions that he can answer orally. I have written mine, but he hasn't done anything with it. I hope that will work out. I posted a couple of pages earlier in the week, but haven't done anything since, except make a birthday card that I will post after it arrives to the recipient. Doug is helping me change all my .HEIC photos to .jpeg so I can order them through Costco. Most of my family takes photos in the new format and they are rejected by Costco and Walgreens. He printed out instructions (like photo changing for dummies) so I think I can do it.LOL

Hi Ladies! nylene I'm so sorry to hear about DH's cancer. Hugs to you as you go through this. I have talked him into recording his life story during that week. The kids are all excited about having him do that. Em gave us booklets asking questions that he can answer orally. I have written mine, but he hasn't done anything with it. I bought books like this when the kids were young and XDH never did fill them out. I thought it would something the boys would be really interested in. But he is not that kind of guy. Holy Hannah, how did August happen? This made me laugh! I have a friend that was always saying "bloody Hannah" lol. But yes, how is it already August and where has this year gone?! kellyr21 that collage is pretty sweet. And such a good idea! grammadee I hope you are getting some much needed rest! Linda I'm glad to hear you are maybe over this "stuff" you've had. I hope the washer repair is easy and cheap! Laundromats are great for having ALLL the laundry done quickly but man I do not like dragging everything to be washed. I would much rather be able to do other things while the laundry is doing it's thing. I took today off, said to myself I was going to spend it crafting - so far, not yet lol. I am finishing up my December album today. I think it's been blocking my mojo. I want to work on anything but that album for some reason. Two more pages and I can be done and move on the the AD class I signed up for. And in exciting news, DS 2 just passed 6 months clean yesterday. And was unanimously voted president of his sober house for the next 6 months. I'm so so proud of him. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

So happy for your son joyfulnana! I'm so sorry your DH has to go through more surgery and down-time nylene. Sending prayers for success and that the surgeon gets all the nasty sounding "fingers". Tomorrow, family arrives, and we pack up and head camping Sunday. I feel scarily at peace...like I must be missing something that normally makes me panic?

Happy Saturday! Hope you all have a peaceful weekend. Today, I hope to get to M's to pick up a few supplies and CVS to get my pictures. It is still pretty hot during the day, so I hope to get out in the later afternoon. Oh, I started a chair yoga class last Wed. It will be every Wed evening here in my town. My first in-person class! I enjoyed it last week and look forward to doing more of it. nylene- HUGS to you and your wonderfully brave dh! Praying for both of you and your family!!! linda- Are you still watching the bears? I check in on them daily! LOL! It feels so relaxing watching them. Glad you are feeling better. joyfulnana- Congrats on you son. I hope you get more of your mojo back. Mine comes and goes too. I just ordered some pictures so maybe that will get me back in the swing of things.

Hello, Pokeys. I am home from dropping off dgs. Stayed the night and stopped at WM to print pic's and Costco to stock up on staples.
Checked the garden when I got back and picked some raspberries. The beans need to be picked tomorrow. But I need to make at least two bd cards tomorrow to get into the mail on Monday, so maybe that will get my crafty muscles stretched and ready to get back into action...

Good morning Pokey friends! I hope you are having a nice weekend.
Gramma - Your cards that you posted are beautiful! You did such a great job on them. The people in your life will be tickled to receive them.
Kelly- your photo collage is very pretty! Such a fun idea, I may need to try that.
Nylene - I am so sorry that Steve is having to go through another surgery! I hope that the recovery goes smoothly and that the surgery is successful. He has had such a rough time with this eyes.
I didn't get your questions answered from last month. Mallory works on a pre/post op unit at a children's hospital. She is starting grad school this year to be an anesthesiologists assistant. I think she is going to be engaged soon to a sweet boy named Collin, who we love. Olivia is a marketing manager for a law firm and is doing great. She doesn't have a boyfriend, but doesn't really care. She lives about 10 minutes from us with a friend of hers. She is really into making the super creative journals, her journal pages are amazing. She is very artsy and draws most of the stuff that is on her journal pages. She does a few scrapbook pages too, so we like doing that together sometimes.
I went to my friend's retreat house part of Friday and Saturday. I was able to get all of my memory planner for July finished...which made me very happy. I'm having fun playing with those, it takes less time for me. I am trying to fit two months in one planner insert, but July had my trip to Las Vegas and a meet-up with my sorority sisters in it, so it's too full to put anymore in it. I have never really been very big into stamping, but I've been trying to learn to do a decent job at it to stamp a few things in the planners, so I was watching some Tim Holtz videos last night...of course then I had to buy some new stamps and ink colors...you know how it goes...LOL.
I hope you all have a happy Sunday!

Happy Monday all! (happy Monday, like for real, there's no such thing LOL) It has been so hot here since the first part of July and it's enough already. Heat advisory after heat advisory. It zaps my energy even being outside. I'm over it. We have a "cold" front moving through. Which just means we will be high 80's instead of high 90's for a few days lol. The humidity has been unbearable. I had a long weekend and did a little paper pushing but not much. In fact, I really took it pretty easy all weekend. I've decided to call it "practicing to retire" LOL. Nylene I'll be sending good thoughts and vibes for DH and for YOU that it doesn't take too much out of you as well. grammadee I hope you are getting some rest in there. Your garden sounds so yummy. I love raspberries. kellyr21 your in person class sounds fun! I was thinking the other day of checking out a yoga studio I spied the other day near here. I really want to get more consistent with a yoga practice. It's my favorite way to move and I need more of that in my life right now lol. I hope you continue to enjoy it! Linda sorry about the washer, but also YAY! for new stuff? lol. I hope it lasts for 20 years. kitbop have fun! Waving hi to everyone, time to get ready for work now.

When I don't get into my scraproom or my computer for a couple of days I feel like I have lost a week or more! Nice to see you all again. joyfulnana , I am thrilled for your son. He sounds like he has new meaning in his life. That makes a big difference. But hugs for him and you. I know this has been a trial for you too. I hope you get some cool weather with the cold front coming through. We have had some evening rains that cool things off, but only for a few minutes. This has been our hottest summer on record. How does Abby do with the heat? Does it seem to affect her? kellyr21 , your yoga class sounds like a good "out" for you. I hope it goes well and that you have a great time meeting new people. I have put the bears on the top bar of my computer and check on them several times a day when I'm online. I saw a big bear being mean and mauling one of the cubs one day. I had never seen anything like that. I did some research and learned that it's quite normal. Shudder. I love watching them play and catch fish. Thanks for the link. shinyhappytina , so nice to see you and your new avatar photo. It's hard to believe that your girls have grown so much. I'm glad they are doing well. I hope Mallory enjoys grad school. She must really enjoy working with people in the hospital. Working with lawyers must give Olivia some interesting experiences. How is your work going with the Pandemic less worrisome? Linda , I am glad you decided on a new washer. Do you have it yet? I hope the new one lasts at least 20 years. How are your older two doing? Has your older DD been in Summer school or will she go back in the Fall? Is your younger one looking forward to school starting? grammadee , I hope you are rested from your adventures with the grands and having company around. I wish I could eat some of your fresh picked beans. Mmmm, sounds so good. We have enjoyed our tomatoes, but they aren't very large this year. That's all we have grown the last few years. Your cards are really cute. kitbop , I hope that your camping trip is going well. When I get that "not stressed" feeling before a big trip or event, it makes me worry about what I have forgotten too. Hope you arrived with everything you needed. Have a relaxing and stress free vacation. We had a big family reunion Saturday at my sister's home. We had about 80 people there. DS and DDil brought Swayzee and she had a ball. This was the first time Alex had ever met her and he really took her under his wing. They had a big blow-up waterslide that was very tall. She was brave enough to climb to the top and slide down. He stayed right against her as she climbed so she wouldn't slip backwards. He is now her favorite person! I am so glad they got to have fun together. It was nice to be with my siblings and their families. Thank you all for your well wishes for DH. We feel like we are in good hands with the surgeon. He's trying to get a lot of things done this week that he won't be able to do after the surgery. He has just 2 more pens to make for his big Christmas order and will have those done easily this week. He has been teaching Alex to use the band saw and scroll saw. He's doing well and will probably start a project this week.

chair yoga sounds interesting kellyr21 - enjoy! yes - still watching the bears...so fun! welcome home grammadeehello shinyhappytina - nice to hear from you - sounds like a great weekend working on your memory planner! joyfulnana - like you, I'm so over the heat and humidity - and now it's rainy season also. nylene -your family reunion sounds lovely - we used to have big get-togethers with my ILs but since MIL passed, it hasn't really happened. I tried a couple times and we had fun but only a couple of families showed up but I think without her as the draw...people tend to stick more to their own family groups and of course, as her great grand kids grow up and the grandkids start retiring...everyone is getting more spreadout also. (Dh was the youngest born 8 years after the next oldest. DD15 is the youngest of the first cousins and the oldest is 50) Dh got a new washer for us on Saturday - not the one we picked out that was 'in stock' on the website as it turned out they only had the floor model and weren't able to sell us it. So this one is much smaller but...better than no washer. I did 10 loads of loads of laundry on Saturday. As for it lasting 20 years, I would settle for 10 at this point. This is washer #6 in 25 years.

Sorry I have been so MIA. What with grandparenting and gardening, I have been left with little time and NO energy to play with paper, or even to have lengthy conversations here. Then I had to quickly throw some cards together to get them into the mail for August birthdays. But I have had a quiet morning now, and am taking time to catch up here. joyfulnana, I know how hard we can make projects when we are doing something we haven't tried before. Did you share your Christmas album? I would love to see what you have done. And wonderful news about your ds! Hoping that his progress and the faith others have shown in him will stay with him in the time ahead. What is Rudy doing this summer? Dd has a new part time job on top of the one she already had, plus she is taking all the time she can on her thesis research, so Mikey has been in different day camps each week, except for last week which he spent here with us. This week he is in a Harry Potter themed camp and next week he will be at BMX camp. Glad to see you are playing with paper again, gramma. I need to get into Flickr and leave some love for them. Hoping your summer has given you at least a little time to rest and relax. And hoping your dh is becoming more settled. (((((HUGS))))) You have been really busy, MARIBETHR with all your scrafting projects. I am so behind in my comments, but hoping to take a closer look on Flickr at your pages and cards and home decor. Congrats to your dgd on her grad! I have some photos of my niece's dd from the family gathering they held for her grad. She even put on her grad dress so we could take photos. What is your next project? ((((HUGS)))) to you and your dh, nylene as he goes through these surgeries and you keep him inactive while healing. Recording his life story sounds like the perfect project for this time. Really hoping that they are able to stop this cancer right in its tracks. And I hope that you are able to spend extra time with your dgs before school starts. If anything can cheer Grandpa up, his visits will! I am loving your Cousin Camp pages, and Mikey was, too. He commented on everything from the teeshirts to the activities to your page design. And he loved them all! Hoping you are having a marvelous time with family, kitbop. Looking forward to hearing the stories of your adventures, and seeing them on your scrapbook pages. kellyr21, your photos of flowers from your walk are beautiful. I love hearing about all your relaxing activities. Being able to walk down to the park to watch band concerts sounds amazing. I have never heard of chair yoga. Let us know how the next class goes! Hoping you continue to feel better and that your "normal" energy returns, Linda. How is your dd's summer going? Has she found activities now that she is back home? Their drive sounded horrendous, but glad they were able to make it home safely after all the storms and the traffic stalls. Your new washing machine reminded me of my mini scare here a couple of weeks ago. Just before I read about kitbop's washer woes, I had washed a bunch of blankets that had been stored in our garage. There was a ton of lint and cat hair in the washer and the dryer after the loads went through. But I started worrying about clogging the washer drain screen. I opened it and cleaned it out. But the next wash left a puddle of water under the machine. A call to the repairman did not make me feel any better. He thought if it was not caused by a hole in the door seal it would be the pump! But then I remembered that I had cleaned out the drain, so I went back, took it apart, and put it all back together again. And NO MORE LEAKING WATER !!! shinyhappytina, I would love to see the pages you put together last weekend. What fun to be able to attend a retreat! justjac and I are having our own little retreat here at the farm this week: she will be creating Christmas cards and I will be scrapping summer--so all the seasons in a couple of days... Okay, off to get some things done around this house. Hoping to catch up on the sharing thread and Flickr in a bit...

Saturday is another full day of scrafting with the FB group Crafter's Classroom.

gramma , your pages are gorgeous. I love that font on Opening Day. Will you share what it is? I left you love in the gallery. I have been thinking of you and hoping you are doing well. Is Ken doing any better? I am so impressed with all the cards you have made lately for Cards for Soldiers. So many cute images! MARIBETHR , it's nice to see your happy face popping up. Your scrafting on Sat. sounds like fun. You have done some amazing projects this quarter. How is work? I haven't heard anything about the NM fires for a while. Are they contained or out? Hope you are not still in the smoke. grammadee , I don't know how you keep up with the garden. Bending over is so hard on my back, I know I'd fall over and just lie there! forever! Your produce sure sounds delicious though. Glad you had fun with DGS. I think he and Alex would have a ball together! Linda , you didn't mention how you are feeling now. Do you think the bug has run its course? Hope you take it easy as you regain your normal busyness. refugeepea , have you heard anything more about your son's wheelchair? Our County Fair was last week and we didn't even get over there this year. I wanted to at least walk through the 4H exhibits, but things got too crazy. I know Swayzee loves unicorns and as I was going through some old scrapbook stuff I came upon a unicorn I made for a card and didn't use. I took it to the Reunion to give her. She was ecstatic...a small paper unicorn! Then I got a call from DS the other night saying Swayzee was so distraught, the tail fell off her unicorn. He glued it back on but it wasn't the same. He told her grandma would make another one, or 2, or 3. So I made 3 unicorns yesterday and put them in the mail. The things you'll do for the grands and great-grands! Off to get something done.
