MARIBETHR, I missed your post about your sweet feline friend. My heart hurts for the emptiness he has left in your lives and heart. Those little four-footed friends become such an important part of our lives. I am so sorry for you and your DH. Sending hugs! Be gentle with yourself. You know you gave him a wonderful life. I showed DH the photo of him helping with the construction. His comment was, "Hey, I think he can read a tape measure better than I can!"

Oh MARIBETHR, I am so so sad for your loss! It's additionally hard to have the responsibility to decide their end when they are suffering. I love his name! We also have 4 cats but 2 dogs. My oldest cat is "kneading" my arm as I type this, asking for more pats. I'm noticing that it's time to clip her nails nylene - fingers crossed that this bug is not covid, and will be waiting for an update on the surgery tomorrow. (hugs) to the patient and you! Happy Anniversary grammadee! Ours is Friday - and we are exactly 1/2 way to yours - 27 years! That's kinda cool I keep foods that dd can eat in stock here. Such a good idea...if these relatives lived in Canada I'd do that! I did manage to freeze a batch of vegetarian spaghetti sauce and will keep it for a lasagna the next time our vegetarian friends are over. It was amazing: gluten free noodles have come a long way! But I ache for a loss of onions and garlic for your DD. Linda - I sure hope you are having a better body day today! "Today would be a good day for a crisis" This really made me laugh because... Monday (exhausted from camping/working/cleaning/cooking), our family visitors had arrived and we decided to go to "sky zone" - the trampoline place here, complete with "ninja warrior" obstacle courses, pits/airbags to tumble into from trampolines, dodge-ball courts on trampolines, basketball hoops on trampolines, etc. Plan was for the younger generation to jump, but it looked like so much fun so all the 50-something year olds decided to go too. For 90 minutes we exhausted ourselves to red sweaty messes and had a BLAST (did I mention I have achey knees today?) As we were leaving, all a very happy group, DH saw the "Ninja Warrior" wall. That high curved wall you are supported to run up and pull yourself on top. He popped his achilles tendon with the first push off at the bottom. Crumpled to the ground in agony and unable to move his foot. Did I take a silly photo? Of course! by kirstendrew, on Flickr He is now on crutches in a boot, no driving, no weight bearing, no moving it, and a long recovery ahead of him.

I wish I had a photo of when he helped my husband with the plumbing, you DH would have got a kick out of that, he would get in the sink and look through the drain, then jump down and squeeze under the cabinet with my hubby thinking he could give him a hand.

MARIBETHR - love these pages, I especially like the 2nd with the multiple rows of loopy border punches in the centre. Linda - got DH's ultrasound results - it's a complete rupture of the achilles so it's a 4 month recovery starting with 6-8 weeks in a boot and crutches. He is already depressed and it's only been 3 days! He's feeling fine otherwise, it's not overly painful. nylene - waiting on an update on your day and DH!

Just got DH home from surgery. The hospital computers went down in the middle of the case before his, so that meant more waiting after already being 2 hours behind his scheduled time. Finally at 4 pm they started and it only took a bit over an hour. They didn't have to do the skin graft, but made three incisions in his cheek and eyelid. They got all the cancer and the doctor was happy with the results. DH looks like he lost a bar fight! Just got him settled with ice packs. I'll come back tomorrow to catch up on chatting. kitbop, I am so sorry for your DH's accident. That's a long, miserable time in a boot and healing. He's in our prayers for as quick a recovery as possible. Thanks, everyone, for your concern!

So happy to hear dh's surgery went well, nylene. But you both must be exhausted after such a long day. I hope his recovery is not too painful and he can relax and rest. kitbop I guess there is a reason that people in their 50's don't usually jump in those places. Ouch!!! What a downer for your dh after your fun afternoon. I hope he can soon get used to the boot and that his healing is a smooth journey. So happy you are crafting again, kellyr21. Can't wait to see your new album. Glad you are feeling better, Linda. Pain is no fun. Hope the rain isn't getting you down. We could certainly use some rain around here: it has been hot and sticky all week. Love your courthouse pages, MARIBETHR. I need to get to the sharing thread and to your Flickr stream to see what else you have been up to. I made mustard relish today, so all my crafting was in the kitchen.

Thanks for posting nylene. I'm so happy to hear it went well and that there was no skin graft - even a little bit less surgery is good news I figure. Prayers for a speedy recovery and a big hug to you! Sitting and waiting for a loved one takes a toll.

grammadee - what is mustard relish? pickles and mustard? or something else? Not quite. It uses fresh cucumbers, onions, cauliflower and peppers. And the brine is sugar & vinegar thickened with flour and flavoured with ground mustard and other spices. The recipe I use is called Thousand Island Relish.

I scrapped something! I wonder if the mojo is creeping back? My little guy was so sad with this haircut. He moped around for a couple of days. I wonder what part of "just a trim" the groomer didn't understand? IMG_1305 by CLAUDIA LOVELESS, on Flickr

Happy Saturday! Not much happening here but hope to have a nice weekend. I may work on the new mini album this weekend. I finally found some chipboard for the base of the mini so now I can get started. Also, I have been working on more embroidery. I was in a M's embroidery class last week and I thought I would get back to mine. nylene- I hope you and your dh are having a peaceful weekend. Hugs! grammadee- I was just in the gallery and your double pages are so fun. Love all the action pictures of your dgs's sports. Hey you might have a future "Hall of Famer" in your family! I hope you had a nice anniversary! Waving hi to you sweet peas and hope you have a good Saturday!

Not quite. It uses fresh cucumbers, onions, cauliflower and peppers Well, having 16 cucumbers from my garden that need using, I googled this and now need to go buy jars for pickling. Do you alter the recipe at all - extra spices or anything? TFS!

I have not tweaked this one. But I DO use pickling salt rather than table salt (no iodine). I think that is in the recipe but you might not notice it if you don't make many pickles.
Oh, also, kitbop, I heat the brine and start to thicken it before I add the ground up veggies. Otherwise it takes forever to heat up and thicken. Have fun! (It tastes best when it has been in the jar a few days.)

I happened to have pickling salt on hand. Owned it for 25 years I think! The recipe I found has you cook the brine/flour mixture to a boil before adding the veggies. It tastes great already! It was a lot of work (chop, cook, sterilize, can) and I don't know how you canning people put up so much each year! I bow down to the canners and picklers! My mom and I used to do peaches, pears, tomatoes, applesauce, salsa, green beans and anything else she could find to cram into a jar. Tuna! We did tuna one year!! We did well over 100 quarts of green beans on average - - I miss all that but not the work.

My MIL canned all that plus beef and pork: imagine putting a whole pig into jars... And then she had crocks full of cabbage leaves and another filled with shredded cabbage for sourkraut She also made tons of dill pickles. And they did all that in a house heated to boiling with a wood cookstove! The only thing I put into jars these days is relish and sweet beet pickles. Everything else I freeze. Much easier. But our parents had no electricity, so no freezers. Did you grow up in California, gramma? I think our food preservation obsession comes from living so far north where the growing season lasts only about ten minutes, and the winters are long...

On the topic of “canning”, I will be making jelly this week. This “choke cherry” tree volunteered itself years ago to grow between the patio and the deck This morning I picked a gallon of them. They need to be cooked, then the juice extracted, then heated again with sugar and pectin to make the jelly. Of course I had some help…. I don’t think she will be much help with the jelly making, though

Happy Monday! Hope you all are having a nice day. We got to the park on Sat and Sun and it was so restful. Plus there was a cool breeze flowing that gave us some relief from this heat. Whew! I hope it is cooling down here cause I am getting cabin fever! LOL! I worked on the HS mini album today and finally figured out how to measure 5 5/8 inches! Thank goodness for Google. So I will continue working on it this week. kitbop - WOW! I am impressed! I have never canned anything but I have seen it done on tv. Looks like you are ready to go into business. Yummy! Congrats to you! grammadee - I hope your jelly making goes well. Glad to see your cat helper was there for moral support. LOL! What a special tradition that connects you to your mom and family.

Hello! Wow so much going on! Linda glad to hear you're feeling better. You've been on fire this month as far as scrapping goes and I love how you make those sketches work so well. nylene I'm glad to hear DH's surgery went well and no graft! I hope his recovery is speedy. I love your grad pages. grammadee your jelly sounds yummy and your helper is sooo cute! gramma I love your pages, and I'm glad to see your mojo coming back, it gives me hope for mine! All the canning looks yummy. I remember the ONE summer my mom tried canning. It didn't go well, and looked like a ton of work. I have never even considered canning lol. MARIBETHR I'm so sorry the loss of your cat. Hugs to you. Lovely courthouse pages! I love those deep colors. Your Friday scrafting group sounds fun! Oh No kitbop! Love the silly photos but OUCH. I hope the next few months speed by for you guys. kellyr21 I'll have to catch up with all you've done with that Heidi Swapp line, your projects all look so happy. It makes me want that line lol. I'm really looking forward to Sketchtember. Just reading grammadee's thread got me wanting to get photos and papers matched up. I've been terrible about commenting so I'm going to get to the gallery and sharing threads this week. It's inspiring and helps stir the mojo. I had carpets cleaned last week, which led to a lot of purging and decluttering in the main areas. I'm going to work my way through the whole place. I'll get some photos of my DD in the morning when the light is better. I feel like I want to get back in that scrapping/chatting/sharing groove again!
