I was excited about that, especially since some are new colors they haven't given us in prior classes.

The Spellbinders peek is up. I foresee a lot of small dies and lots of die cutting for homework! I love the sparkle of the paper the ornaments are cut from.

Hey, I'm back from vacation and ready to get started on this. Boxes start shipping next week on Monday! September 30th will be here before we know it! I've printed off the schedule and supply list, put in for that Friday off work. I feel I should probably take the following Monday off too, will be too tired to work... The Spellbinders cards are cute, but they look to be lots of work. Those tiny tiny pieces seem to vanish off my scrap table without me doing anything. I will definitely do the homework for that class. After Cathy Z's class last fall I went and bought a sticky pen to use for those tiny pieces. Now I just have to find it - can't remember where I put it... I also purchased some Bearly Art precision glue - want to try that instead of the scrapbook.com glue I've been using. Who's on Team Peek? (ME!)

I placed my first order. 😁 Taylored Expressions has a few ink colors that fill some gaps in my colors. Mulled Wine is gorgeous and I don’t have anything close to that.
Does anyone know of an equivalent or substitution for Rangers Lunar Paste? I have no idea what this is and gold is just not my go to color so I really don’t want to buy it if I’ll never use it again. I wonder if something like perfect pearls work?

I am team peek and I can't wait to get the box. So far, my favorites are C & 9 and Gina K. I love clean and simple cards and I love stencils and ink blending. I don't know how some of you don't rip the box open when you get it!

I’m Team No Peek…I love waiting for the unboxing.
Twice though I’ve had my family open the box. Once a corner was pretty smashed and I wanted to make sure the contents were ok (they were). The second time was when they sent the cookie. I didn’t want it to go stale. Dh opened that box and ate the cookie.

I wonder if something like perfect pearls work? I bought TE inks for the last C&C and love them. I'll be buying these colors, too. As for the Lunar Paste...I don't know if it will work for the technique planned but for a colored sparkly paste I use a Distress Ink and smoosh it on my mat to lay some color down, then add a glop of Texture Paste and mix it with a spatula until no white remains. Add some Rock Candy glitter for some sparkle. I do this all the time to color paste to match my project.

The sneak peak has the lunar paste in the background I think, it looks to me that the one with the sentiment, its the dots in the background and the middle of the flowers. You can smoosh versa mark ink thru the stencil and apply gold embossing powder and heat set it or just use some stickels, nuvo drops or glitter glue over the stencil. Make sure you wash it off right away so it doesn't dry on it. I really don't see the need to buy it. I already have something similar and planing to use that.

The schedule and the student list is out. C&9 is giving us 6 ink cubes. Was this sent via email? I've checked my spam and trash folders and no luck :/ Thanks!

Yes, it was sent as an embedded link in an email. You can also find it in the Guides section of the Facebook group. The schedule for the weekend was also sent in that email too. ETA: It will be repeated a lot in the group but it's true, the Guides section of the Facebook group should be your go to for all questions for the event.

Mini vent: I only joined FB again (let mine go 6-7, maybe 8 years ago) because it's used by cardmakers. I literally have added no friends, and use it for nothing else. I can barely navigate my way around, and really have no interest in learning more. That said, I guess I'd better figure the guides out. My small annoyance is that this cardmaking event is so reliant on FB. There has to be a better way (for their customers).

I didn't want or need FB before COVID and virtual craft events. I only have three friends on FB and they are IRL friends who are taking the same classes. I think it really is a good "classroom" for these events where there is a lot of information leading up to it. Just remember if you get lost click on the Guides and all the SCT info is listed.

It really is a good way to organize the classes and keep all the relevant materials together though. I can go back to the groups from any of the prior classes and see the albums, click the links for the classes, download the materials, etc.

I joined FB just for this events. I was not happy that I had to, but its an easy way to have everything at one place. Easy to go back to older events and I like how ppl can add comparison files. My only upset that for some reason I can't access those files on my phone. And I don't want the app on my phone.

And I have seen her YouTube videos where she watercolors little animals. Somethinglikethis youtu.be/sWUDeiuC8VI

Oh well, it does seem to be functional. It'd be nice to have a different way but I don't know enough about the various platforms to know how.

One other thing about using Guides function is that after you read a post from SCT you can click the Done button at the bottom of the post and it will "check mark" it for you. So you don't have to scroll to see if you missed anything from SCT. This is my favorite use, because I tend not to read all the participant posts asking about ink colors and organizational methods.
FTR, I use my own inks, except for the a few samples that I like the colors of and don't have a similar color. And I was already using the mesh zip bags for other crafts, traveling with supplies and WIP's so after the first C&C I used the mesh bags. The first C&C I re-used Ziploc style bags that the products came in.

I finally made it off the waitlist and signed up last week. I’ve read all the threads here and now am super excited to get the box. I’ve liked every sneak (some more than others) and am kind of blown away at some of the offerings. For example, the Spellbinders sneak looks like it contains a lot of product!
Do y’all think these companies actually lose money by participating but then hope to make it back on the residual sales? Sort of like an advertising fee?

This is a really interesting question that I've really never given any thought to. I did a quick calculation and for 2200 students, 4 Spellbinders sets at $15 each that's $132,000. I know that's a retail estimate not their cost but that's still a huge amount. That's just the dies not the paper, stamps and stencil that comes in their kit. I want to say no they don't lose money but honestly I'm not sure. I'd love to hear what others think.

I'm so curious about all of this. If you multiply 2200 students by the event cost it comes to $638,000. Where does that money go?

I think that Crop and Create buys the products at cost or a small markup and the brands do the classes for free in return. Any expenses the individual companies incur can be expensed as advertising & marketing.

And I'm pretty sure the companies get a huge shopping rush with their coupons too.
