I bought some patent leather small wedge loafers a yr or so ago. I think I got one long season out of them due to me wearing them A LOT. And the soles split. Sunny days are still doable but wet days forget it. Cut to this season. I'm looking for replacements. I can't find what I'm looking for. Either forgive me, old woman flat shoes (not there's anything wrong with that) or really big clunky sole shoes. Yesterday I was at Target and found some faux low cut Doc Martens. I can't really do taller boots due to large calves. I sent a picture to 28 yr old DD. She liked them but thought they looked...somewhat plain and manish. I told her I would jazz them up with satin shoe laces. So who wears these? How do you wear them? I normally wear skinny jeans and then some wide leg cropped pants. These are the shoes. www.target.com/p/women-39-s-faith-platform-oxfords-a-new-day-8482-black-8-5/-/A-85702557

I only wear tall docs. I have big calves too but don’t find them uncomfortable.

Hmmm, I'm not a fan of those shoes. I agree with your daughter - very manish. Even with satin laces.

So get sparkly laces.. or wide laces. They make a bigger bow.
If they fit, go for it!! I am a person of greater age and my feet must be comfortable!! I wear mens' 'skate board' sneakers. They have a similar flat sole, so don't roll. Much better for walking..

My DD is still in high school but she has a few pairs of short Doc Martens. She wears them with a-line skirts, short fitted skirts, and folded up mom jeans (or boyfriend jeans? I just know they’re not tight). She wears them with tiny tank tops, paired with a small cardigan and usually wears bobby socks.

I don’t consider those mannish, but it depends on what you wear them with. They are very common here, on men and women. I think they will be adorable with satin laces!
I have a pair of Mary Jane Doc Martens and one of my students told me they looked like “old Girl Scout shoes”. I didn’t want to know if she meant old as in old fashioned GS shoes or old as in an old lady GS would wear them. I figure better not to ask questions you don’t want to know the answer too.
I think those shoes will look cute with whatever you wear them with, but even if someone else disagrees, if you like then that is all that matters.,

To me, they look like the shoes that men wear who have one leg shorter than the other and then wear special shoes where one sole is thicker than the other to even out the difference in leg length. I have two male relatives who wear shoes like that, so my mind goes there immediately.

I wear Doc's both short and boots. I do not think that they are mannish.
Girl, they are a style and if you like them then rock them.

I love Oxfords, but for me, certain styles need to be the classic brand - Doc Marten’s, Converse, Timberland boots. If I can’t afford the originals, then I’ll buy a different style rather than a knock-off.

Or any graphic tee for that matter.

They seem to be big and clunky to me and this isn't a bad thing, just I don't understand how you see these as different. I don't really love the Target shoes--I've got a couple of pairs of clunky-ish oxfords, but mine are a tad more feminine. One by Coach and one by Eileen Fisher--both deep discount. I do love a clunky sole. I spent a long time yesterday looking for a pair of clunky sole loafers. I've already bought a pair of brown fleece lined Chelsea boot Docs this season and updated my tall black boots with ones that are waterproof with a chunkier (non-tread) sole. Tall boots haven't really been in the past few seasons, but these seem very simple and classic and the price was good. I like to wear them with what I call my "nerd pants" which are ankle-length pants from Uniqlo in menswear prints and solids with snazzy socks. I like the look of them with skinny pants because of the juxtaposition of chunky shoe making legs by comparison look like toothpicks. I also love the look of Oxfords with a straight midi skirt (preferably tweed) like every woman in a 1930s PBS period drama wears them. I feel I've become too much of a certain age to wear them with a mini skirt, but I do love that look too.

I wear docs all the time, I usually wear boots (pascal as they are easier to break in). I am not a slim girl and the boots are very forgiving to those of us without thin ankles. I do have shoes but not in black. I wear boots and shoes with everything, maxi dresses, mini dresses, jeans. I wear them with work wear, formal wear and casual. I prefer the style of the original docs to the pair you have linked, but I am probably brain washed as I worn them since I was 16 and saved up for my first pair.
But if you like them wear them. I have a friend who wears chunky kickers and she has ribbon laces to match her outfit and wears lacy socks.

I feel I've become too much of a certain age to wear them with a mini skirt, but I do love that look too. Let me see if I can clarify what I mean with my degrees of chunckiness. I like a flat chunky. What DD kept sending me was a loafer with a heel. I don't care for a chunky heel. www.dsw.com/en/us/product/crown-vintage-sage-penny-loafer/515687?activeColor=007&cm_mmc=CSE-_-GPS-_-G_LIA_Shopping_Exclusive%20Brands-_-Exclusive%20Brands&cadevice=c&gclid=CjwKCAjwx7GYBhB7EiwA0d8oewlgxiADqTHq1UBnHJtUYTV2bUkPvaLsDnMkAqB4TKL45aBUah5mYRoCY0MQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.dsI love the descriptions of what you wear yours with. I need to find some "nerd pants". I am a preppy from the 80s so I love a good loafer and tweed. And add to my crazy sock collection! katiejane I am a plus size girl myself and with that, cankles. I didn't always have cankles but I do now. Add to that some swelling due to medical issues. But I love a skinny jean on me and think those suit my frame better. I have to remind DD that what she would wear her stuff with may not suit my older body. I do have a loose overall jumpsuit that I hope these will work with. I have several shoe laces in my cart on Amazon. Some satin and some organzaish. I will be ordering some different colors to color coordinate with certain outfits. I am wearing these today so I guess I am keeping them. They are very lightweight and so very comfy. Black skinny jeans, white tee and a chambray blue duster. I think I look ok in this get-up

Forgive me. but being a product of Catholic School. black oxfords of any kind will forever remind me of "nun shoes". (Yes, I know they are considered cool now.)

I think you look fantastic! Also, I think you’ll have lots of fun changing out the laces for different outfits. I think you need a plainer style shoe to do that & pull it off. Well done!

I didn’t reply before because I didn’t care for the shoes and didn’t feel it necessary to say since different things are for different people. 😀 But I had to comment on your picture- you made the shoes work with your outfit and I think it looks great! I think you’ll have a lot of fun with those shoes and fitting them to your style.

That outfit looks great!!!
Also, I'm down a rabbit hole on Doc Martin's now and am sure I need a pair of boots. My last pair of non boot ones I wore till they died. Might be time to replace. I just don't look forward to wearing them in!!!
