My parents had one for as long as I can remember, and it was one of the first kitchen gadgets I got when I moved out. Love it, especially at this time of year when lettuce is so sandy and gritty! Plus, the kids love drying the lettuce and it's fun to give them something they enjoy to help out with when making dinner. I have no clue what brand mine is. It is burnt orange in colour and has a knob on top you turn around.... my parents' have one that has the knob in the middle that you push down, and I think their version is a bit easier to use -- though it won't propel itself across the kitchen floor like a wonky alien space ship if you get it all cranked up and spinning fast and let go! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

Another one with an OXO. I like it when I remember to use it. In talking about it here and imagining where on earth I could keep it to make it easier to access, I think I thought of a good place. So, thanks ladies!

I have an Oxo, too--the one with the stainless steel bowl. I love it but agree it is a pain to store. I like the stainless bowl because I can use it for other things. It's very sturdy and won't warp in the dishwasher.

I have a cheap one (similar to the ikea one) and use it all the time. I find it kind of therapeutic to wind that thing up like a mad woman.

I need to replace mine. It was a cheapy, though, and it lasted 13 years, so I got good value out of it.

My MIL gave me one for Christmas many years ago. I remember thinking, "What the hell is a salad spinner and why would I ever need one?" Well, one use and I was sold, lol. Best invention since the toaster oven! Then my boys commandeered it to spin crayons. Outside. In Florida summer temps. ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/pd7N3dneptLj3pbgz5Gd.jpg) Needless to say, it was not salvageable when I found out several hours later. I went out that same day and bought an OXO one and use it pretty much every day. Not just for lettuce, but other fruits and veggies like strawberries and broccoli. Also for cut potatoes. It's the best for spinning water off home cut fries. L

I have the OXO stainless steel salad spinner - nice and heavy and well balanced with non-skid on the bottom so it doesn't move on the counter!

We have had one forever, I can't imagine making a salad without one. We have the OXO one mentioned above. I also use the strainer for other things (pasta, potatoes, etc.)

Love mine! The only downside is storage. I have a very small kitchen!

I have always wanted one of these but can never bring myself to spend the money on one. Maybe I will look for the Ikea one ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I was watching Barefoot Contessa once and Ina said we didn't need a salad spinner. She just placed her washed lettuce in a couple of dish towels, folded them up and started swinging the towels in a circle. Well, I decided to try that and water came spraying out through the towel. I guess I didn't do it right!

I have the Kitchenaid one which I currently have to store on top of my fridge. We have a lot of home grown lettuce and other greens that are much more difficult to wash without one.

I had one but our kitchen space is so limited it was always in the way and I had no place to store it. I eventually gave it away and now just dry greens on clean kitchen towels. Not as fast, but it takes less space

Thank you, I just bought the small one. It got really good reviews so hopefully it won't take up too much space in my tiny kitchen ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

I have a salad spinner question... I made a chopped salad for a BBQ tonight. So I washed the leaves.. chopped them and then put them in the spinner to dry. And they did not.
I was disappointed, I have never had that happen before.. and I spun and spun no water came out but the leaves felt wet....
Do you wash, spin, then tear or cut?
Normally I don't do a lot of tearing or cutting because I use a spring mix.. but this was a chopped salad.. so I cut per the recipe.

I use the ikea one too, both for home and one for school. We use the one for school for spin art, the kids love it! The ikea one is cheap, but it works great.

I actually have two. I have a large one for the house and I bought a small one for the office. I just kept it in my desk drawer and shared it with coworkers. It was always being used. I tend to grab the small one now for herbs or single servings of vegetables and only get the big one down if I'm cooking for more than just myself. I really like seeing other uses for it. I don't know why I didn't think of them.

We have one and use it, but I can't remember what brand it is or where we got it. It's not as big as some the spinners I've seen in the stores so I wash my greens in batches when I bring them home.

I don't know what brand mine is but I love it & it has a string. I use it more than I ever thought I would. We eat spinach salads every single day! It's super handy!
