He's been missing since Thursday and we are sad! We tracked down what happened to him that night but haven't found anyone who's seen him since then. We're doing flyers, signs, Paw Boost, and nextdoor.

Good luck. It is so hard to have your cat missing.
You have probably tried all of the tricks online, so please excuse me if you have already done this, but, when one of our cats escaped, what got him back was leaving his (not cleaned) litter box outside.

I am sorry. Is this an indoor/outdoor cat? Does he know where he lives? If not leave his litter box outside so he can smell it. Good luck!
ETA started posting before I saw the response above me.

He was not allowed outside on his own for a long time (we'd take him out on a harness) but this year I started letting him out. He was doing fine and we always managed to get him in before bedtime, but he got taken just a little bit outside his familiar territory and apparently couldn't figure out how to get back. (We did put his litter box outside right away!) We know who took him and we know where he went right after that, and he was moving farther away from home. So frustrating. We hope he's found someone to take care of him and they'll see the signs.

He was TAKEN!?!? Who does that?!
Can you go to that area and call out his name?

He was TAKE!?!? Who does that?! Can you go to that area and call out his name? Yep. A girl picked him up across the street from the neighborhood park (which is super close to our house and he definitely knows how to get home from there) and took him to her yard, maybe a block or less in the opposite direction. I guess it was enough outside his familiar territory that he couldn't figure it out. I was taking my son for a walk right then, and I had a feeling I should put the cat back in the house first, but I didn't. Definitely kicking myself about that one. And then a lady posted on nextdoor that he was meowing outside her window, but I didn't think of checking nextdoor until the next day, and he wasn't there anymore. We have walked around and called a lot!

I hope you find him soon! I have the worst anxiety about any of my cats getting outside and going missing.
We had one cat that we used to let outside because he was a big fat asshole who demanded it but I don't let any of the others out. Your kitty being missing is giving me anxiety! Sending good thoughts that someone sees him and your fliers soon! And put him on house arrest if he doesn't know to run from strangers! 🙏❤️😻

I'm so sorry. I know someone whose cat was missing for two months before she was found in a tree. Now she never tries to get out.

Is he microchipped? If not, schedule him for that when he gets home.

Have you been back to the girl's house to ask about the cat? Is it possible that your kitty is staying there? I hope you find your cat and that kitty is home very soon.

Oh shoot, do you have a neighborhood facebook group? Or a local lost and found pets facebook group? I've seen people have lots of luck with FB in your situation. I'm so sorry he is missing. Good luck!

Oh no, I hope you find him soon!
My dd's cat has an Apple AirTag (though he's not allowed outside, she just is very anxious!). That might be something to consider when you find him!

I hope your kitty finds his way back home. I’m also a huge proponent for microchipping pets, that way if one ever does get picked up or found, it’s so much easier for them to get home again since pretty much every vet, humane society and animal control center can scan for the chip.

Hoping you find another great lead on him soon!! Your heart must be in your mouth right now. I can't imagine. Ours don't go outside, and they're both microchipped. I AM realizing that this is a holiday, so only an Animal ER would be open or maybe the Humane Society... Great idea to get him chipped ASAP once he's found.
Does he take treats? Maybe you can shake a can or bag if he's closeby?

Oh frustrating and scary for you! The only time one of my cats ever went missing was when one kitty snuck out the front door and then ended up going into the garage of the people next door. After calling and hunting for her, I finally heard her meowing to me as I walked down my side yard. I could hear her coming from their garage. Unfortunately the neighbors were not home all weekend. When they finally returned, I met them as they were driving into their driveway and explained the situation. They were kind enough to leave their car in the driveway and open their garage to allow me to go inside to retrieve my kitty before she bolted out and ended up somewhere else she should not be. She never escaped again. I think that scared her enough. My biggest concern was that she had no water to drink during her incarceration. When I got her home, she drank and drank and drank. Poor baby. There is a possibility that your cat has ended up trapped in someone's garage as well. Listen very carefully as you walk around calling out to him.
I so hope someone sees your cat and contacts you or he finds his way back home on his own.

Also put a piece of your clothing near the litter box.

My mom's 100% indoor cat got around right before the 4th of July. She was out for 2 weeks. We could see her in the neighborhood, but couldn't get her to come back in. She would visit the deck every night but was super skidding. Two weeks to the day she left, she timidly walked back in the door, lured by chicken. Don't give up hope. Particularly if he's accustomed to coming home on his own.

We have walked around and called a lot! Hold up! Someone straight up took your cat into their yard and he hasn't been seen since? I'd be over there knocking on the door asking about where he's at! The gall! OMG! I'm seriously sitting here in shock that someone would do that. If whoever has him takes him to the vet, hopefully they scan for a chip and call you. I'd call around to the local vets and let them know about this. If this person would take a cat, they'll also make up a story for the vet to show that they're the "owner" and probably get the chip info changed to theirs. I'm so sorry.
