I've been using Ranger, ultra-fine. However, I was running out of white, so I decided to try Brutus Monroe this time around and holy smokes! It's pretty amazing. When I received it, I opened up the jar and could feel how much finer it is than the Ranger, and was excited to try it out. When I use it on wider font sentiment stamps, it heats up and becomes nearly smooth with one pass of heating/embossing. I'm thinking of slowly transitioning over to using it...maybe purchase one container each time I buy supplies. I think I'd only really need 3 more colors, including clear. And then just donate the Ranger.
Have you tried Brutus Monroe? Have you tried their clear (curious if it also heats up and becomes smooth very easily)? What did you think of it? What's your favorite embossing powder brand? What's your least favorite brand?
Also, besides clear, is there an embossing powder color that is unusual/fun/stunning/and the like that you want to share with us? Anything else you want to add about embossing powders or embossing?

I have been wanting to get a white powder that's closer to the shade of Neenah cardstock white than whatever I'm using right now (Ranger?) But I don't use a lot of embossing powder so I haven't bothered. I use clear over black ink if I decide to do paper piecing or to make a black sentiment stand out, rarely use white on white for an ink blend/resist design, even more rarely white emboss a sentiment on black cardstock.
Gold is actually my favorite, mostly for Christmas cards but also for florals and with watercoloring. I would consider adding a few more metallics - silver, and rose gold or copper. I never use my clear glitter embossing powder.
I haven't tried Brutus Monroe. Should we abbreviate that to BM? lol

I need a new jar of clear powder, so I'm watching this! The Brutus Monroe white is amazing.

Hmmm, my "go to" is Ranger Superfine. I may have to try Brutus's. We received a bottle in last March's C&C box but I haven't used it yet. It's bright pink which is not one of my usual colors. I'll give it a try today.

Wow embossing powders are great—they’re their specialty. They also have a few embossing powder “Changers” that are added to what you’re using for more sheen, texture, etc.
Brutus Monroe Alabaster is lovely. I have some Ranger and Hero Arts that are quite nice.
Some embossing powders are chunky on purpose for specific looks; I’m blanking on the brands I have but will look. Some are Seth Apter branded. He’s an amazing artist with a mixed media focus.
Tim Holtz/Ranger makes a translucent embossing powder in Distress colors that they call glazes. They’re fun since you get a nice tint but can see through them. Of course he’s got videos demo-ing them.
Black embossing powders haven’t generally worked well for detailed sentiments, etc., so many cardmakers use clear on top of black ink. And of course clear on top of any color is a great look and keeps the number of jars down, if that’s a goal. I’ve heard Brutus Monroe’s black works well, however, so bought it but haven’t tried it.
Mixing your own colors from two or three embossing powders can be fun too.

Ok, so what makes Wow so good? Sounds like imay need to try a jar of that too before making a decision about switching over.
And yes, I bought black, used it once, came on here and asked about it, you girls set me straight on using black embossing powder, and I’ve never picked it up again 😁

I exclusively incorporate stamping into scrapping (e.g. words, labels, icons) & prefer Ranger Super Fine Detail EP (available at big box craft stores). Of the six available Super Fine Detail colors, I regularly use clear, white, & black & occasionally silver, copper, & gold metallics. I also have a few Zing EPs in non-neutral colors (bought on deep clearance at a big box store years ago) that I rarely use. It appears Brutus Monroe offers its Ultra Fine EP in only three colors (i.e. alabaster/white, raven/black, & icicle/clear).

I have a chocolatey brown EP that was gifted to me - I use it more than I thought I would, mostly on projects where black would feel too stark. A dark grey color would also be useful (again, for times when black would just be too much) - does anybody have a color/brand of grey EP to recommend? I thought black, white, and clear would be enough, but then I needed silver, gold, and copper. And holiday red. And that brown. And now grey...

Ranger has a color called Gunmetal, it’s a dark gray metallic.

I love the metallics. And if you double and triple layer them they can really look like metal. Heat/melt the first layer, quickly pour more powder on or dunk the piece into the powder while still hot, heat/melt, quickly add more, heat/melt.

When I want a deep gray instead of black, I use Versafine Clair in Morning Mist with clear embossing powder.

Brutus Monroe has an Embossing Powder of the Month subscription. I love getting a surprise every month, and colors I might not try otherwise. They are beautiful!
