So I'm shopping for a new roll of Sookwang / Be Creative Tape / Scor-Pal Scor-Tape. (Seriously this product has way too many names it goes under, augh.) My current roll is starting to get thin and I'm a bit loathe to completely use it up. It's the only craft supply I have from my late grandmother. The prices though feel eye-watering. Over 60$ for, admittedly, a lot of tape (5" 27 yards).
I'd have no trouble spending 60$ on metal cutting dies - okay that's a lie, I'd have a little trouble and I'd probably spend a good week or two hemming and hawing over 'do I need this or not' before pulling the trigger - but I'm balking at shelling out for adhesive. Same with magnet sheets - I need them, I have to expand my storage and I found a half-decent price for ~2.4$ per 8x10" piece. But it feels bad. Maybe it's because it's a consumable. Maybe it's because it's not a visible item in a finished project. I'm really not sure. But it just feels like everything's gotten so expensive as of late and as a result I've gotten even more picky about where any hobby dollar gets spent. I also wanted to pick up a backup Kadomaru Sunstar Pro corner rounder but it's near doubled in price since I got the first one, admittedly a good number of years ago. /end first world problems.
So, are there things you hate to buy? Even when you need them, and are happy to have them? How did you get over it?

6x6 paper pads because I can't use 3D dies as much as I wanted to and I hate wasting my 12x12 if I don't have that many sheets of a specific design. I love browsing through my stack. It makes me happy just looking at them; that's how I get over it.

I hate buying any type of consumable necessity such as tape or glue. I'm also not fond of buying albums but mainly because they are expensive and I would rather use that money for fun stuff.

Albums and ink for my printer. That money could be used on pretty paper!!

I enjoy shopping for the FUN stuff, like patterned paper and embellishments and new fun tools and dies and inks and... I get no joy out of shopping for the necessary-but-boring stuff like albums, page protectors, adhesive, trimmer blades... Replacement ink and Nuvo colours go with this as well. If I bought it once, it was fun. If I have to look for it again--especially if it is not in stock everywhere any more--it's a chore.
ETA. Oh oh oh, and cutting mats are a pain to have to buy.

Adhesive! Although I just ordered a pack from Amazon and called it a "hurricane prep supply," and it did not hurt as bad. 😉
I need something to do while stuck inside, haha.

Stamps + dies. I want to play more with more of them but they are just so pricey and I always think 'what if I only use it once?'. So I rarely actually buy them.

Ink cartridges for my printer, not the photo one but the regular one. They are so expensive.
Although I had to laugh at myself. I was thinking I had just purchased the box. Um, no, it was in December 2020. Still doesn’t make it easier to hit buy now.

I hate that I have such a hard time NOT buying matching dies with my stamps when available. Sometimes that keeps me from buying the stamps, so I guess that is good. I know I should look into a scan cutter, but dies are so quick and easy to use.

Ink for my printers and photo paper. I usually don’t mind buying adhesive and the “non-fun” products because it means a trip to a craft store and I can at least browse the fun stuff while I’m there.

It's been a while since I've bought some but they typically come in a 2 or 3 pack. I think they are cheaper. I slide two of them side by side in 12x12 page protectors with a piece of cardstock behind them.
I don't like buying the basic boring things; adhesive, storage items, albums, and sheet protectors.

I've looked at vent covers, but they're thinner than I want and lack adhesive which I need to make my planner sized storage work. The few places locally that sell them also charge even more than what the 8x10's work out as. I was getting my sheets from the dollar store but they've seemingly stopped stocking them since Covid.

Albums and page protectors. I wait for a sale at Hobby Lobby and buy a bunch at one time and try not to think about how much fun stuff I could have bought instead.

Albums. 100% albums.
I have no trouble buying dies, paper, stickers, glue, roller adhesive, stamps, ink. But albums are a pretty penny.
While they are used to house my layouts, I see them as a one and done. So maybe that is why.

sarahsprettypapers love your budgeting but I do hope you stay safe and sound! Loath a lot of the same: ink cartridges for printer, page protectors, albums, & adhesive but I also hate buying photo paper. It's so expensive, especially for the 13x19 when I want to print 12x12.

Have you tried magnetic vent covers? It's been a while since I've bought some but they typically come in a 2 or 3 pack. These used to be cheaper but they too have skyrocketed in price! I did find some cheap thin magnet sheets at Dollarama for $1 recently - good strength - they are cut into small rectangles (for making magnets) but I just used 1/2 the sheet together to make a die backer. For me: albums and page protectors cost way too much for the fun they give Embri - the SB.com double sided tape is very close to as good as the sookwang stuff, for a fraction of the cost. I'm a complete convert and have many widths.

Unfortunately the international shipping & currency conversion (not counting whatever import and customs fees there'd be) make their tape just as expensive as the sookwang once I'd get it into Canada. So not an option for me, alas.

make their tape just as expensive as the sookwang once I'd get it into Canada I still find it cheaper. It's 7.99 at my LSS plus tax so almost $9.00. It's 1.99 at SB.com (when it's in stock. But that's another beef), which means 3.00 Cdn essentially. And if I include it with other items I really want, but keep my order under $70, shipping is usually 10.99 and it squeaks by customs free. I do my math tho before buying tho. But not paying the HST usually pays for the shipping!

Pre-cut ephemera. It makes me feel like I haven't done my "job" in creating. And, it is expensive for a bunch of "matching" pieces I could make myself.

I don't use double sided adhesive for assembling paper, I'm using it mostly to adhere large magnetic sheets and full coverage is a must to ensure my die storage works as intended.

i'm not a big fan of running out of adhesive so, years ago, i bought dozens of rolls of Scor-tape/sookwang in various sizes. i bought them online and since i was going to have to pay for shipping, i decided to buy enough to last almost a lifetime.

I hate paying to have pictures printed. I don't mind buying even the most mundane scrappy supplies, but dang photo printing adds up, even with good deals.

Hah, well I guess that's one way of avoiding future pain! Just get it all over and done with at once. Not a bad perspective.

white cardstock. adhesive tape. I don't use much white cardstock... white anything for that matter. But years ago (maybe 10 years or more) I took home from work about a 5 inch stack of white cardstock that was cut wrong (we used them for reports)...I am still using that cardstock!! lol

Pens. It seems to be a crapshoot these days on how long they will last. The last several Precision Pens I have bought were dry right away.

I have to agree about albums. I have a stack of Iris cases holding my pages as they await an album. I just don't like buying them or the process of putting pages into albums. My pages are typically really thick and chunky so that's a chore too. My DIL has started to buy me albums randomly for gifts as she knows how much I hate buying them.

Iris storage cases! They're so expensive, and rarely on sale. I need 2 more of the 5 or 6 rolling carts with storage cases, but I can't bring myself to pay $65-$75 each.
