juanita , I can confirm eating light, low roughage/low fiber (my DH did 4 days and 5th day liquids only) makes so much of a difference. He had NONE of the issues others did that I read online. He followed directions to a T. We're just waiting for his appointment time to leave the house. Of course, everyone is different, but I think it helped a lot.

Yikes! Nevermind! I don’t know, I have two brothers who had theirs fixed without any complaints and they tend to be the biggest whiners ever, LOL. Both basically said they had to watch their diet and eat lower fiber stuff while they healed but that was about it. Hahaha! “The biggest whiners ever” I don’t remember MIL complaining much either but it was year ago!

Another vote for the pills. They're huge horse pills, but so much easier to get down than the prep. You will take 28-32 pills, but you don't taste anything but the water you use to swallow them. Some doctors won't prescribe them, but I would check w/yours.
Good luck and get ready for the best nap of your life. The procedure is super comfy. You'll be napping and in less than 15 minutes you'll be awake and feeling really calm.

TMI alert: I really need to schedule mine and I am terrified because I have a hemorrhoid that will flare something fierce with that much toilet time. I know I’m not the first person with a hemorrhoid to have this done, so I will suck it up and do it. But dang I am scared - and only for this one silly reason. Pat rather than wipe. And have a pack of witch hazel or hemorrhoid wipes handy. Don't be scared. I know, easier said than done. But trust me when I say you will be so glad that you did the test.

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned yet - for that last day of only clear liquids, you might want something NOT sweet, like broth to drink. I know that I tend to get tired of the sweet things like Gatorade or apple juice or whatever you’re mixing your prep with.

I wonder why no fiber. I would think youd want things moving well

I haven’t been able to even *look* at Gatorade since, and mine was five years ago! 🤮

If possible, get the pills instead of the drink. It was sooooo much easier. I had asked my doctor about this, but he said that the pills don't always work as well, then people have to do it again. Clearly they work for some - but throwing this out there. I would not want to have to do it twice!

DH went to Neiman Marcus for me one year because I love their broth and now I insist upon it every time! A little it of nice in the middle of not-so-nice.

Mine is coming up on October 25th. I've had one before so I know what to expect but still not looking forward to it. My mom had very early stage colon cancer and my great grandfather died of it so I keep up to date on it. I was clean as a whistle in my first one and I hope I still am! Good for you for getting it done!! Glad it all went well!!

I appreciate the tips! My time is coming on Wednesday. I think I’ll start the liquid diet tomorrow I want to make this as easy as I can.

To help with the chafing, apply A&D or Balmex before you start eliminating. Having the barrier in place before you even start, along with frequent reapplication, will go a long way toward relief. To reduce the amount of wiping needed, I recommend a bidet bottle or peri bottle. Cynpel Peri Bottle for Postpartum Essentials, Feminine Care | The Original Portable Bidet (Pack of 1), Blue a.co/d/7J44YYs These work great to gently rinse away the residue after elimination, especially since it will be petty much liquid. After rinsing, take as much time as you can to air dry, and you will only need “light pats” to finish drying. When my mom had her last two colonoscopy’s, she drank clear protein drinks once she had to go all clear. She found Premier Protein clear that wasn’t red, but I couldn’t find it in my area when I had to go for mine. She showed it to her doctor at her last appointment before the procedure, and he approved it. I’m due for one this year, and I’m going to share this one with my doctor to see if it will work. I’ve tried the lemonade before and it tastes pretty good. Mom found that the protein drinks helped her avoid feeling so weak and hungry that last day before she had to go to water only. https://us. us.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/clear-whey-isolate/12095867.html

Bringing this back up
What about after the colonoscopy? Were you down for the day or all good after a meal? I've been asked if I can help with something that afternoon and I'm hesitant to say yes.

Ate right after. Stool a bit soft, but able to control, nothing like during the prep and by the evening/next day back to normal.

We’ve never had any issues after the colonoscopies, 5 between the 2 of us. And we always, always go for a big greasy meal right after even though they tell you not to. But my sister just had her first one and had stomach issues for 24 hours. Not like the day before, completely in control, but she didn’t feel great. So I think this is going g to vary by person.

DH just had one. Since he was put under they told him he shouldn’t drive for 12 hours and not to make any important decisions for a day until the anesthesia was totally out of his system. He pretty much just hung out at home watching tv for the rest of the day afterward.

I felt fine, but agree with the effects of the anesthesia can vary from person to person. It's never bothered me (until my knee surgery) but I know several people who react strongly to it. Once I ate I felt normal and like I'd had a good nap.

I had to use them because I had baratric surgery and my stomach can not handle the amount of liquid for the drink prep Lucky! I am a bariatric patient too and I asked for the pills. They said no worries, we give everyone the Go Lytly. I drank all of it except the last glass. They said I did well.

You should not do anything for 24 hours due to the anesthesia- it will be in your discharge instructions. So, definitely say no.

Are hemorrhoids caused by constipation or straining? I'm not sure what causes them to flare, but if it is, then it shouldn't be an issue because everything is so ------> TMI ----> soft and liquidy. Come out pretty easily. I think chafing is the main issue people have. But, I am not a medical professional! LOL Also, I wonder if you can schedule them to fix the hemorrhoid while you're having your procedure? My MIL had to have one surgically repaired one time and has been ok since. Surgical repair is not recommended except in extreme cases. Very painful. I wonder if this has been updated. My husband's dr. said that is is quite easy that they just cauterize the blood flow to the hemorrhoid. He just had his colonoscopy last week.

Question for those who had a polyp that was sent off to the lab (?) Did the Dr do a followup in person or phone call appointment/meeting with you after to discuss the results?
Colonoscopy was Monday morning. 1 polyp found that was sent off. Dr. said (according to DH, I don't remember much) that very unlikely to be cancerous but that it is a genetic type and should tell any under 35 relatives to get screened.
Nurse called today to set up an appointment for the Dr to "discuss my case". Her tone has me concerned. She said it could be an in person or phone call appointment this Friday. We are leaving out of town Thursday, so I chose phone call. But I'm wondering if setting up an appointment is normal in this situation.
Usually my other Drs would just call with the (good) results and leave a message if they didn't reach me.

We are leaving out of town Thursday, so I chose phone call. But I'm wondering if setting up an appointment is normal in this situation. Usually my other Drs would just call with the (good) results and leave a message if they didn't reach me. I think all polyps are sent to the lab, at least all of mine and anyone I know have been. I’m wondering if it’s to discuss the possible genetic issue. Since you were under anesthesia he may want to meet with you personally. My father died from primary colon and stomach cancers, which puts all of his offspring at risk. I started my colonoscopies early and have them frequently. Also, it puts us at higher risk for a few other cancers so we need to be screened for them. I know it seems scary but I am so happy to have the knowledge, because a colonoscopy is actually a way to help prevent this specific cancer so it makes me feel like I’m in the driver’s seat. Take things out before they turn cancerous. And, not to scare you, it could also have been pre-cancerous, I’ve recently found out most if not all of mine (23 with 3 colonoscopies) have been. I misunderstood the terms originally. If that’s the case, the important part is that it was removed. And that you do follow-up exactly as the doctor recommends, including eating as recommended (high fiber, low red meat) and make sure you get your next colonoscopy right when he wants you to. My understanding is that colon cancer is generally slow growing, so by getting regular procedures you take out the polyps before they become a bigger issue.

All my test results came through the electronic portal, including the biopsy report on one benign polyp I had removed. The doctor then comments on the results.
