Good morning Peas! I will be your host on Wednesdays for this year's CARDtober. My theme this year is fun fold cards. I will have a picture with the folds need to be made and I'll link a video that you can watch to understand the folds and the finished cards better. Today we are making an explosion fun fold card. The video is showing you how to make a 6×6 card , but my template will be for a 5x5 card what we can mail in a A7 envelop. I would add a piece of 5x7 cardstock in the envelope for some extra support. The other changes that I made is that I used double sided patterned paper and didn't create the extra little pieces. For the twist use an element or medium what you don't usually use on your cards. I used a wood cut out piece, Prima 3D flowers and glow in the dark embossing powder. Template for the folds to make a 5x5 card 20221005_080349 by Azcrafty, on Flickr The little pop-up mechanism for the inside is 3x1 scored at 0.5 - 1 - 2 - 2.5 inches The video- its really cute Sam the cardmaker is teaching her grandmother how to make this card. youtu.be/vPX4oEjedJgAnd here are my cards 5x5 20221005_080445 by Azcrafty, on Flickr 20221005_080421 by Azcrafty, on Flickr 6x6 20221005_080540 by Azcrafty, on Flickr 20221005_080600 by Azcrafty, on Flickr Point counting *Create a card based on the challenge: 2 points *Apply the twist to your card: 1 point *PLUS: create the card AND use the twist for a bonus of FIVE points! this is on top of the easy peasy 10 points / cards Completion bonus: complete at least one card for ALL the CARDtober challenges for a COMPLETION BONUS of FIFTY points I hope you'll give this a go. The first might takes a little time, but after that should be easier. And very addicting . If you need any help just ask. Happy crafting! Tagging grammadee

azcrafty - your cards are gorgeous, will have to save this challenge for the weekend as it is a bit more labor intensive than I can do on a weeknight, but I hope to get a similar look to yours, we shall see.

azcrafty Thank you for the fun fold challenge! The folding was fun! I enjoyed the video quite a bit, and I would love to have a cup of tea with Sam and Nan. Sam was so sweet with Nan. Your cards are very special. I like how the lace on the band works with both the green and coral card and the blue and gold card. Thank you for scaling it down to 5x5. Very helpful for mailing! My element I don't usually use is a ribbon as a belly band.

Thank you everyone. I really love this fold and I have been making lost of cards with it. jjpeapea I absolutely love your card and making the inside a shaker is brilliant 👏. I will have to try that next. Can you tell me if you found this easy, medium or hard? It will help me to choose the next fold. Thank you for playing and sharing.

It wasn't difficult - but it did take me awhile, so kind of between easy and medium. Hope that helps.

I may suggest we each make one together. She is not a card maker but had been making a few cards with my stuff, and I’ve never made anything but a regular old flat fold card, so if we do, I’ll report back too azcrafty. We’ll be the blind leading the blind 😉

ok - this only took 3 days and watching the video multiple times...I like the end result but not sure I want to tackle this again. It was definitely on the harder side for me (but slightly easier than the box cards from last year) No twist unless you count fancy folds as something I don't ever use on my cards I'm probably in the minority but I do prefer a tutorial with words and pictures to a video for something this complex. Thanks for the challenge azcrafty

Going to attempt this card today while I watch football. Have a disabilities picnic to go to (so excited to be back with friends doing fun activities and sports again!) and then will give this a go.

Thanks for the challenge azcraftyThis gave me the idea to watch again and write down the measurements for the lines and then score lines for each piece. I think that will help me stay on track so I don't have to push pause. Cute video for sure though!

Okay so I got the base and the inside made. Here is something that happened that I find interesting...
So I used my Fiskars 12x12 rotary paper cutter to cut the 6x12 pieces. Started to score and nothing was lining up correctly. The outside triangles were smaller than the ones they folded on.
I opened it back up and felt it along the scor-pal. The 6" cut on my Fiskars was more than 6"! It was closer to a little over 6 1/3" Like WOW.
So I started over. I cut the paper, then scored it on my score pal and cut that section off to have a 12x6 piece of paper.
Scored again and sure enough everything lined up.
I have the 2 pieces setting right after after being glue together. I will finish up when I get home.
Anyone else run into this issue?

Linda You did it! I love your color combination. Your inside is pretty and I love the flower on the belly band.

Okay just finished. It was a pain to make until I realized the 6" on my Fiskars cutter isn't the same 6" as the scor-pal. Once I figured that out, it came together pretty quickly. I used scraps for this card as well. http://instagram.com/p/CjgfA1vPmKl

Linda your card come out great. Love the paper that you used and the flower on the front panel is perfect. Do you usually use those kind of elements on your cards? If not you can count that for your twist. I will try to have some instructional pictures with the next folds. pantsonfire awesome card. The colors are so striking. I applause you that you didn't give up and figured out the problem. And thank you for sharing your findings with us. We probably all have a tool that is off just enough to give us a headache 😆 I have a small score board I don't like to use, I should check it. Its probably off.

No wonder I still have to trim when I cut a 3x4 or 4x6 card insert or make a card base. On the Fiskars a piece I just cut at 6" was 6 1/4 on a ruler and about that on the scor-pal.

Okay so I just checked it with a ruler.
All numbers before the fold (so closest to the cutting area) are correct.
All numbers after the fold (above 5.5") are all off by 1/4".

I was taught how to make this years ago. I didn’t use a score board or a ruler, just cut my pieces to size and started folding from the middle. It works for me. I was also told that it is called an explosion card because you add a bunch of glitter in the center, and when the recipient opens it, the glitter “explodes” out of the card and all over the place. Glitter is evil……my card will remain glitter free. I did use an unusual element. I used velcro on the belly band, to just open it instead of having the belly band slide off the card. The small, square card inside is loose and can be removed, written on, etc. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be that way, but that’s how I did mine, mostly due to my paper choices. I needed someplace to at least sign the card. And when it’s open:

Beautiful card scrapnnana. Love your paper choice it makes this card so dramatic. The velcro is a excellent idea for the belly band , I'll have to keep that in mind. For my message I cut a card stock 2.5 x 5.5 and just glue it in the back. Thank you for playing and sharing your beautiful creation and telling us about this fold and the glitter.

scrapnnana That's gorgeous! When you first starting talking about glitter I thought, "Who would do that to their friend?" Ok to a 5 year old maybe. Glad you are glitter free, good call. I also like the velcro idea. I think it will be easier than sliding the band.
