today is the day I finally get my implant in, and then an abutment on it. No tooth yet. That has to heal for 2 wks, then I'm not sure what happens, but it's another few months before I get my tooth in. I just wanted my front tooth before cmas, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen. ugh. I'm anxious about today, I just want to get it over with, dreading and looking forward to it all at once. And of course stuff is going on with my dad and his bladder cancer, and then stress at work. So I got a new cold sore.
Whine whine. Thanks for listening. I took tomorrow off too. Sounds like I can't wear my retainer for awhile, so I won't have a front tooth for at least 2 wks!! I was like...really??!! what do people do? luckily I wear a mask at work, but still!!! Tomorrow when I vote I'll either be that liberal with no front tooth, or that liberal wearing a mask. haha

They even wrote a Christmas song about this. I'm sorry that it's taking so long. Dh is just starting this process. He's been through it before. I'm sorry that you have to endure it. Talk to your dentist and see if there's any chance that he or she can have it done by Christmas.

Yay for you! It sucks that it's such a long process, but it'll all be worth it in the end!
RE: the missing tooth for two more weeks - I'd just wear a mask anytime I was out and about if it really bothered me. Bonus points for it hiding the cold sore while it heals! LOL
I am so sorry things are stressful with your dad and his health...I will keep you all in my prayers.

Sorry you are having to go through this, I hope it goes well. DH tried to get an implant but he had to have his hip replaced and missed his window for the follow up dental work. By the time, he was cleared to get more dental work the implant was no longer viable. He got a bridge instead. I'm sure you will be having everything done on schedule as you are anxious to get this completed. It will be worth it.

This is my horror story right now. Tooth 1-1 is vacant and I have another 6 weeks to go and cannot wear the retainer because it’s too tight. It is not fun.

My dentist cut off the prongs and I guess that helps but not enough. I just tell people what happened. 4 doses of antibiotics and a fistula and infected tooth. The gum has healed over the wound and that needs to be opened. GP said there would’ve no more pain but she is full of it. I believe NOONE! It hurt a lot.

All I want for Christmas is my one front tooth, my one front tooth!

Good luck with the implant procedure. I know you'll be glad when all the steps are finally finished and it's a done deal.

You're my inspiration! I have quite a bit of bone loss to the point where some of my teeth have loosened and I'm having a laser procedure next month. We can be miserable together!

I love that you can laugh during the process. Your comment about voting made me chuckle!

I was given a fake tooth while I waited for my implant to get finished. The whole process took forever. I had to have bone grafts done, so there was waiting time for those to cure before they could go any further. Getting the implant in was a experience and the longest appointment I had. It was sore for a few days afterwards.
All in all I very glad I did the implant. Good luck with yours.

I had an implant done today. My dental surgeon used a brand new insert/screw thingy. Just onto the market new, like I am one of the first in Canada to have this new kind of implant. My tooth had broken off, so today they removed the last bit of the tooth and then had to remove the entire root, which had had a root canal done many years ago. I was shown the root and it was big. Then they packed in some bovine bone and put in this new screw implant and tightened it very much. This will cut out 5 months of waiting, as the bone was implanted and then the screwy thing put in. I am on strong paid meds so I am PUI , just in case this sounds a bit weird. My dental surgeon has the latest gadgets and is quite a world renown in Maxillofacial surgeon and has done complete facial bone reconstruction. Good luck with the rest of your healing.

I have extreme dental phobia and am in the middle of the implant process. I got the tooth pulled 14 months ago and am waiting for the implant. Thta's the next step, but I keep postponing it because my dentist and oral surgeon are x-ray crazy so I have to wait because I don't want so many x-rays so close together. Maybe I will go back next summer, but that will make the process almost 2 yrs. long! It will be so nice to get the implant as I can't eat well on that side.
I was at the dentist to get a cracked tooth prepped for a crown yesterday and it was an awful experience. It took 2 hrs. (also filled a cavigty in tooth next to cracked tooth. They had to keep giving me a lot of novicaine and I was almost in tears. My arms are nailed to shreds as I dig my nails into my arms for the appt.!

2 YEARS??!! holy crap. I thought 1 yr was bad. I'm so done with it and all the waiting. Luckily I have a really great retainer, that has my old tooth glued in it. You can hardly tell I have a retainer, my dentist is great. I'm over the dental surgeon though! ha
