We got BritBox last month and just finished season 6 of Line of Duty. Looks like there is a possibility of a season 7 next year.
Now we'll watch the latest and last season of Shetland.
What other shows should we put on our watch list?
We are so darn happy to finally be getting back to some great shows!

My favourites: Line of Duty Happy Valley The Tunnel Luther Scott & Bailey Silent Witness DCI Banks Vigil Good Cop River Annika Deadwater Fell Spooks Vera Prime Suspect Whitechapel
I'm not sure whether all of those are on Britbox, but I daresay most of them would be.
And this one isn't a crime drama, but I love it so much: Mum

And this one isn't a crime drama, but I love it so much: Mum I watched on your recommendation and just love it. Other BritBox recommendations that aren't already listed: Traces A Confession Karen Pirie Redemption The Bay The Long Call Tower The Victim Little Boy Blue Also the whole 7Up series following the same children at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 40, 56 and 63 years old is fascinating.

Not sure which are currently on Britbox, but we've liked these. We go back and forth with Acorn which also has a lot of good British stuff.
Happy Valley Broadchurch The Hour Unforgotten No Offence Life on Mars The Tunnel Luther Scott & Bailey DCI Banks Whitechapel

Line Of Duty is/was hugely popular over here. Just as a matter of interest, Martin Compston, the actor who plays Steve Arnott, is a Scot with quite a strong Scottish accent though you wouldn’t know it from this drama. He lives in Las Vegas with his American wife, actress Tianna Chanel Flynn and their young child.

Ditto to all that were mentioned above! We also have both Britbox and Acorn, so many great mystery/police procedurals. Britbox also has The Inspector Lynley Mysteries which is very good (esp if you liked the Elizabeth George novels the first 2 series are based on)

Apparently a new season of Happy Valley is coming (loved that one) and a LUTHER movie We loved both of those too! The main female character in HV was also in Last Tango in Halifax which we loved. Been waiting for Luther again! Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! We've seen a lot of them when they were still on Netflix but many are new choices.

Apparently a new season of Happy Valley is coming (loved that one) and a LUTHER movie Wow! I didn't know there was another Happy Valley. James Norton was the villain in season 2 and he was unrecognizable from his vicar in early Grantchester seasons. Looking forward to the Luther movie.

A "light hearted" detective one we enjoyed was Murder in Paradise.

* Just started "Happy Valley" last night---so good! James Norton was the villain in season 2 and he was unrecognizable from his vicar in early Grantchester seasons Yes! It's so weird that I hate him so much in Happy Valley. I can't not think of him as a kind vicar. * LOVED "Broadchurch!" The two leads were just perfect together! * The "Luther" movie was so good! We got BritBox last month and just finished season 6 of Line of Duty. Looks like there is a possibility of a season 7 next year. Cannot wait! The only info I can find (if it's even accurate) is that it'll drop around Christmas 2023. * I've read about a good series called "Blue Light". Anyone watched it? Yes, that's a fun show! I started it during quarantine and haven't been back since. There are SOOO many seasons!

I get both Britbox and Acorn. Watched the first two episodes of Happy Valley on Acorn, then realized that they were the only free ones and now I have to PAY to watch the rest, even though I am an Acorn subscriber through Amazon. What a racket! I went through an intense British police procedural phase in the spring.
One that hasn't been mentioned, because it's on Acorn (duh!) is Blood. I think of it as modern Irish gothic. Not really a police procedural, but gripping.

Not sure if they're on BritBox but Wire in the Blood and Touching Evil are both very good.

I second third or fourth most of what has been listed and will add: Blue Murder McDonald and Dodds Inspector Morse Lewis Endeavour
I am not sure which service these are on, Acorn or Britbox since we have both.

We watched Happy Valley but after a point I had to stop watching. The crimes were too evil for me. I can't remember just what happened but I reached my breaking point. DH was OK with stopping.
I can't take psychological terror or anything that is too horrific.
I loved Inspector Lynley (the books and the TV show) and even went to the adjoining city to read some that our library did not own. We also watched all the Midsommer Murders that were available.

My all time favourite would have to be Vera.
Silent Witness is an other good series - has been running for 20+ years but you can jump in anywhere and still understand what is going on.

'Blue lights' on BBC iPlayer is stark and confronting but it is brilliant. It's set in northern Ireland. I also like the Welsh series Hinterland but especially the 3 series of 'Hidden'. They're quite different to other detective series imo.

We also watched all the Midsommer Murders that were available. This describes DH and me perfectly. And limits the number of shows we watch. Not a Brit Box show, but Acorn, and we really like Brokenwood Mysteries. It is set in New Zealand; the characters are a bit quirky, but the drama is somewhat light-hearted. Just the right blend of mystery and comedy.

Wallendar Thorne Scaredy Cat and Thorne Sleep Head are both great. Short series. I think only 3 episodes each?
If you have Acorn, then give Jack Taylor a try.

We just started watching A Touch of Frost - two episodes in and we are liking it. It is an older one - I think the series started in 1992 so it isn't all bright and shiny compared to newer productions.

I noticed that last week - a special about all three shows (Morse, Lewis and Endeavour) was on, followed by the first episode of the last season. It is on Vision Channel here as well (Canada) and it is on season 5 or 6 - so confusing, lol!
