Please don't pile the peanut butter cookies and mint cookies on top of other cookies on the cookies tray. Biting into a gingersnap cookie with essence of mint and peanut butter is just gross! Yes, a million times yes!

So much pfefferneusse hate! I love them and my kids are sad if I don't include them in my holiday baking. If I tell them I'm not making a spread of cookies, they still insist on at least those. One year I didn't have any anise but I DID have Chinese five spice! I think they liked those the best.
As to my list: Chocolate chip (not a holiday cookie) Sugar cookies (sorry, I don't care how much you dress them up) Anything with coconut Anything with candied fruit
As to some snark - my aunt, bless her little heart, makes chocolate chip or peanut butter cookies (or both) for Christmas. They're good but they're not Christmas. They're the gift card of Christmas cookies.
(Dang it, now I need to break out the recipes and see what I'm making this year and make sure I have the ingredients ready since I moved recently and purged the pantry. I know they'll want my cranberry pecan shortbread again too.)

I don't like: - pfeffernusse or any cookies with anise or licorice flavoring
- peanut butter blossoms
- rum balls
- snickerdoodles - too sweet and cinnamon-y
- white chocolate anything paired with peppermint
- any cookie with raisins
Also, I totally agree with the pea that said everyday-type cookies (chocolate chip, oatmeal, peanut butter, etc.) are not Christmas cookies! Christmas cookies are special cookies that only come out during the holidays!
I stopped going to cookie swaps because too many people in the group I was in just made chocolate chip cookies, peanut-butter, or other everyday cookies when I was going to the trouble of making actual Christmas cookies. I also really hated ending up with a tray where the flavors were all mixed up and leaching off one another because of the cookies being mushed together on the tray. Peanut butter, peppermint, and gingerbread do not belong anywhere near each other, people!

I think they're called Russian Tea Cakes. It's a powdered sugar covered, ball shaped cookie with crushed nuts inside. Too crumbly, too powdery, too messy, not enough flavor. That said, maybe the bakers in my family aren't good at making them. (My weak contribution to the snark factor of the thread.) I like those cookies, I just don't care for the powdered sugar. On anything. I can't think of a specific cookie I don't like.🤔😄

Sorry I do love home made chocolate chip cookies .. My mother start baking the begining of November for Christmas. Cookies, different kind every night. I learned early on how to cream the butter and sugar by hand. She labeled ever recipe card whether to use butter or margarine. She made cans of cookies for every male in the family.
First batch was chocolate chip cookies to eat. Last batch was chocolate chip cookies to eat. She made them in-between and they were all frozen to be packed for Christmas.

I'm a cookie monster. There aren't many cookies I don't like (except black & whites. I think they're too cake-y and boring tasting). Anyway, I don't care for chocolate chips on cookie trays. That's an every day cookie - not a Christmas tray cookie. I mean, I'll still happily eat them. But for the purposes of answering this question, there's my answer. When I read your post and saw “black and whites” mentioned, I immediately thought “ah, there’s a NY/East Coast girl! The local bakery where I grew up on LI made (and still make) wonderful B&W’s - delicious with a cuppa! I am another who can’t think of a Christmas cookie I dislike. I even love fruitcake…. Ha! Very good. Born and raised on LI, still here!

When I was a kid, my mom would make German Pfeffernusse Cookies (sample recipe Here )and I HATED them. I'm not sure I would even like them in this day and age because black pepper isn't really an ingredient that I feel should be prominent in a cookie and they also have anise in them. I was glad when she stopped making them because then her baking time was spent on better cookies! omg those cookies are a bite of sadness. WTF with pepper. Always such a horror and a shock to get that flavor profile. Ha ha ha! I literally laughed out loud and scared the dog! At first I read the question and thought, what’s not to like? They’re cookies! But after reading all the posts there are some I won’t eat and pfeffernusse is one of them. I’m also not a huge fan of the Russian tea cakes/Mexican wedding cakes with the powdered sugar. Nope, once the sugar gets knocked off you’re left with a dried up ball of wallpaper paste. Not a fan of fruitcake or anything fruitcake-like, and also not a fan of rum balls which my sister LOOOOVES to make. No thank you. Peanut blossoms must be made with the flatter chocolate stars and not Hershey Kisses, the ratio between cookie and chocolate is all wrong with kisses and they’re hard to bite through without the cookie shattering in your hand. I dislike those haystack things for the same reason, they’re messy. Now having said all that, I will add that I actually like a lot of the things others are saying they hate, including: peanut butter most nuts (other than macadamias) raisins dates lemon/citrus mint milk chocolate dark chocolate white chocolate coconut fruit/jelly and I especially love vanilla sugar cookies of pretty much every type. Those people saying they don’t like sugar cookies with royal icing really need to try one made by a cottage food baker. After going to CookieCon a few times and eating dozens upon dozens of cookies that other bakers were trading, there are SO many phenomenal bakers out there who make pretty cookies that are soft and actually taste really good. These people have tweaked their recipes for cookie and icing until they are amazing. If your only experience with sugar cookies are the nasty, dried out, baked 9-12 months ago, preservative laden cardboard junk they sell at Target or Walmart, then I would agree with you. But it is possible to make a decorated sugar cookie that is delicious and won’t break your teeth. I’ve done it.

Biscotti - too dry for me!
Not sure what these are called but my mom used to make them…butterscotch chips with colored mini marshmallow - weird texture, yucky taste.

We are doing a cookie exchange at work of 12 participants and not one, but TWO people, signed up for chocolate chip cookies. One eventually changed her mind though …thankfully! To me it’s all about “special” recipes.

Anything that usually has a lot of 'stuff' in them.. raisins, coconut, etc. I like pretty much plain'ish cookies. One of the best cookies I have ever eaten was a monster cookie with everything in it. I am generally a simple cookie fan, but this cookie was amazing. Panera has a cookie called the Kitchen Sink- it has so many things in it and is delicious. It is also 800 calories.

I have never understood the allure of peanut butter blossoms.
I mean if you are a person who enjoys the consistency “dry peanut butter” and find Hershey chocolate to have a pleasing taste, I suppose?
I find that as I age, I just don’t like most Christmas cookies. They almost always taste old and cheap and I’d rather spend my calories on something I enjoy more.

I actually don't like baked sweets in general.
I like sugar cookies with frosting (not those round abominations that pretend to be cookies) but only one. There are no other cookies that I have to have. I usually turn them all down.
To be fair, I don't like most sweets. I will eat a very small piece of most stuff but refuse leftovers. Sweet SIL loves to cook and bake and makes way way too much. Her baked sweets go to waste.

I don't care for chocolate chip cookies, but I do if there is a complementary flavor added - walnuts, peanut butter, mint, etc. When I was a kid I didn't like chocolate at all, but as an adult I'm mostly indifferent to it.The bolded is just wrong. This sounds weird, but try rosemary*** in your chocolate chip cookies. So good! *** I originally capitalized this, that would make for a whole different kind of cookie!

This thread is like sacrilege to me, lol! I'll eat all of the cookies. Except anise cookies. Yuck.
I did go to a Christmas cookie party a couple weeks ago and mentioned to my family not to have high expectations as the responses rolling in suggested that the people attending were not into baking. Chocolate chip cookies made with margarine, the pre-made sugar cookie dough you get in the refrigerated section of the store and oatmeal raisin from the grocery store bakery. My husband looked at the tray I brought home and said "you weren't kidding!" We still ate them though, lol!

Ok, Ive seen a ton of people mention anise/licorice cookies. I wouldnt have thought that would be so common! (I have had an anise cookie somewhere and didnt like it despite liking black licorice, but I dont think of them as being terribly common.)

I don't really like sugar cookies because they often seem dry to me, like eating paper. And I don't love shortbread for the same reason. I'm sure if it is really well made it isn't like this, but that's just my experience.

I don’t do licorice but think otherwise I’m easy. I love a good oatmeal raisin. My son doesn’t do mint snd my husband doesn’t do nuts. Peanut butter blossoms are one of my son’s favorites snd I used to make chocolate chip for my FIL. Growing up there were these bar cookies with a chocolate filling that are good and there was another that had raisins, caramel and fresh cranberries that my uncle made. I love Mexican wedding cakes with all their powdered sugar goodness lol. Magic bars with coconut are popular here to. My grandma used to make these date filled ones that I used to eat but haven’t made in at least 20 years, same with these refrigerator cookies with candied fruit. From reading this I guess I don’t make actual Christmas cookies. Now that my husband can take them into work maybe I need to figure out a real Christmas cookie to make and send in with him.

Not sure if it qualifies as cookies, but for me it's food art that has been put together to resemble something CUTE - Like, I don't need people to play with my food and glue it together with chocolate and sugar. I also like divided plates at Thanksgiving. LOL Go figure! ;-)
